Chitungwiza Regularises Young Lawyer's Free Soup Kitchen

Chitungwiza municipality has agreed to reopen lawyer Samantha Murozoki’s soup kitchen after agreeing on changes to make the facility legal.

The facility, located in Seke, Unit A had been providing free food to over 1 500 vulnerable people but was closed by Chitungwiza Town Council on the grounds that it was illegal and did not meet public health and public safety regulations.

The town spokesperson Lovemore Meya has however revealed that following a meeting they had come to an agreement. He said:

We have offered her a creche to use and she has agreed to have her team tested for COVID-19 and other diseases.

Council has also offered her security personnel for assistance.

In addition, she obliged to do the registration while operating.

The closure of the facility has received a backlash on social media, with commentators accusing the government of sabotaging the programme at a time it is failing to provide relief during the indefinite lockdown.
