"All He Was Doing Had The Backing Of Very Senior People," - New Twist To Mutodi's Demise

Some government officials have said that the former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi’s dismissal is a pointer to factionalism within the ruling party and government.

Mutodi was fired from his post for disrespecting senior party officials among them his boss Information Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Sibusiso Moyo.

Speaking to The Standard, an anonymous government official said:

It is a fight over control of the government media outlets by some senior officials in the President’s Office and there is an attempt to undermine the president with Mutodi claiming to have contacts with some people, whom he said were the real people with power in the country.

He has some bigwigs behind him. All that he was doing had the backing of very senior people. These are the people, who were giving him the confidence to insult his seniors in government.

The official further suggested that Mutodi was now on a recruitment campaign to turn party members to his faction which ios allegedly being led by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

Reports of factionalism in ZANU PF have been increasing since last year amid reports that army chiefs intend to replace president Mnangagwa with his deputy.
