"Concerning That Some Have Concluded That Govt Abducted MDC Members," - SB Moyo
Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Sibusiso Moyo has said that it is concerning that some have concluded that the government is responsible for the abduction and torture of three female members of the MDC Alliance.
He said investigations were yet to conclude on what really transpired to Joannah Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova who allege that they were abducted and tortured by state security agents. In a statement issued on Monday, Moyo said:
Whilst the relevant agencies of the state are fully seized with the matter and are already investigating all aspects of the allegations made by the three ladies in question- including the circumstances surrounding the unauthorised staging of a demonstration during a national lockdown, in deliberate violations SI177 of 2020.
FeedbackIt is most disconcerting to note that some sections of the media and even some within the diplomatic community appear to have already concluded that the Zimbabwean Government was responsible for the alleged abusers.
The trio was arrested at a flash protest in Warren Park on 16 May and was found tortured and dumped in Bindura 24 hours later.
While some government officials say the abductions were stage-managed, MDC is convinced the government is responsible since they disappeered from police custody.
