A GoFundMe To Be Set Up For Sunday Chidzambga's Covid-19 Pitch Walk
A GoFundMe is going to be set up after former Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambga announced he will walk 50 times the length of the pitch to raise funds to fight COVID-19 on 17 June at Raylton Sports Club in Harare, The Herald reports.
Zimbabwe Team UK chief executive Marshal Gore said they were in the process of setting up a fundraising initiative:
We are supporting the initiative. Our plan is to set up a GoFundMe account for the purposes of the fundraising. We will promote the fundraising in the diaspora community and also make contributions, ourselves, as Team Zimbabwe UK.
FeedbackOur goal and main objective is to initiate community development from within, therefore, this pledge from Mhofu, resonates with our ethos. We will do our best to help.
There is a huge interest to support from former players and many football lovers. It has been received well.
In an interview at the Raylton Sports Club, Chidzambga said he wants to raise money to buy PPE for marginalised frontline workers in clinics and hospitals in the remote areas and he was inspired by the British war veteran Captain Moore who raised over $25 Million for NHS charities in the UK:
Football is my life and I believe that I can make a difference. The whole idea is to raise money and, if I had lots of money, I would have donated to the cause.
But, the reality is that I don’t have such kind of money and I can only appeal to those who want to help to come on board.
A team of chartered accountants will handle the money according to Sunday.
