Govt Pushes For Schools To Open For June Examinations

The government is reportedly pushing for schools to reopen so that June examination candidates can seat for their exams, the Daily News reports.

The matter came to light after 8 teachers’ unions filed an urgent chamber application compelling the court to suspend June exams till the government makes great strides to meet safety measures to protects the learners and the student from COVID-19.

The government in the notice of opposition filed by Education ministry permanent secretary Tumisang Thabela said:

The government will provide all the personal protective equipment and all procedures and recommendations of the World Health Organisation will be in place before the commencement of examinations on June 30

All precautionary measures will be taken at school level to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and all invigilators are expected to report for duty. Special transport arrangements will also be made for day scholars and invigilators to and from examination centres

This is despite the fact that schools closed prematurely on 24 March and leaders have not been in school since.
