ZERA Bosses Receive Free Fuel
Top officials at the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) are being given free fuel every month, it has emerged.
ZERA Acting Chief Executive Officer Eddington Mazambani last year approved a request by the Acting Finance and Administration Director to compensate officials whose fuel coupons would have been devalued as a result of the constant fuel price hikes.
This was revealed in a memorandum dated 29 July 2019 which read:
There is a category of employees who are entitled to conditions of service and tools of trade fuel on a monthly basis and are given fuel coupons.
The current fuel price increases have resulted in the devaluation of the fuel coupons which are now value-based before there are redeemed and this has effectively reduced the employee monthly entitlement.
In view of the persistent price increases of fuel, your authority is being sought to compensate the employees who would not have redeemed their fuel coupons when prices increase.
The compensation will be based on the physical coupons on hand. Administration will put in place the modalities to be used in this compensation model.
