Bulawayo Water Contaminated With Human Waste - Report

Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo has revealed that the water which was pumped to Luveve Surburb in Bulawayo which caused a Typhoid and Dysentry outbreak that killed 13 people was tested and it was discovered that it contains human waste particularly faces, Sunday News reports.

Moyo said this in an interview with the publication when he said:

Once the outbreak occurred, the underlying causes were identified, these being the water which was not available, there was also contamination where it was demonstrated that some of the water had faeces which was beyond the standards that are allowed by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe

Moyo also said they had dispatched EMA to conduct their own investigation too so that the Government can be guided in responding to the outbreak that resulted in 1 798 confirmed Typhoid and Dysentery cases and 13 verified deaths:

We have also dispatched experts from the Environmental Management Agency to conduct its own investigations, to help guide our response. We now know that the treatment of water and that of sewage has largely contributed to the outbreak. The city and the Government are now working to correct the anomaly so that we give comfort to our residents.
