Suspended ZESA Boss Faces Arrest
Suspended ZESA Holdings executive chairperson, Sydney Gata, faces imminent arrest following criminal abuse of office charges pressed against him by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), a Zim Morning Post report claims.
The report says Gata is expected to be summoned at ZACC’s Mt Pleasant offices in Harare to assist with investigations on several allegations. A ZACC official is quoted as saying:
Gata faces criminal abuse of office charges and this week he is due for an interview with the investigation officers.
FeedbackThere is evidence pointing out to numerous instances where he abused office and instructed actions that favoured him and his associates, milking the parastatal in the process.
On August 6 this year, President Emmerson Mnangagwa suspended the entire ZESA Holdings board, including Gata, and gave ZACC four weeks to conclude investigations into corruption allegations against the chairman and the board.
Among the allegations levelled against Gata is that he may have taken for his personal use five ZESA vehicles over and above his official Mercedes Benz and spent $10 million on Christmas parties.
