Kazembe Loses 3 500 Litres Of Diesel To Council Employee
Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe reportedly lost 3 560 litres of diesel meant for Command Agriculture in his Mazowe West constituency.
Mazowe Rural District Council workshop clerk Sydemore Mero could not account for the fuel which was put under his stewardship by Kazembe.
State prosecutor Roseline Maurayi told Concession magistrate Nixon Mangoti that Mero received 9 000 litres of diesel from Rodrig Investments on December 7 last year. The fuel belonged to Kazembe.
After being given the keys to the fuel tank and pump, Mero issued a total of 5 440 litres to beneficiaries who were referred by Kazembe’s secretary, Godfrey Mupahanda between December 17 and 19.
When the fuel tanks ran out of fuel on December 19, Mero was asked to account for the 3 560 litres left in stock but he couldn’t give an explanation.
The total value of the missing diesel is US$5 560.
Mero was arrested and was denied bail and remanded in custody to September 7.
