Cop, CIO Officer Arrested For Armed Robbery
A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer and a member of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) have been arrested on allegations of armed robbery.
The duo is alleged to be part of a gang that has been raiding peoples’ houses in and around Harare demanding cash and valuables at gunpoint.
Constable Fidelis Katsande, who is based at Mbare Police Station, a CIO officer named Chris Risanamhodzi, and Belfa Zvamaida Kwaramba, a civilian, were nabbed by police while another CIO officer, Adoni Chipangamati, is on the run.
The arrests were confirmed on Wednesday by national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, who said investigations are still in progress.
The Herald reports that the four raided a house in Queensdale where they attacked a family on Saturday around 8 pm.
They reportedly fired shots in the air to scare the family while at the same time demanding cash and cellphones.
Three of the suspects were spotted by their victims at Queensdale Shopping Centre who then alerted the police.
Katsande, Risanamhodzi and Kwaramba were arrested while they were standing near their Nissan X-Trail car.
