ZESA Boss In Court Over 9000L Of Fuel
ZESA Holdings head of Group Performance and Audit, Obson Matunja, on Thursday appeared before Harare regional magistrate Trynois Utahwashe facing fraud and theft of trust property charges.
Matunja is accused of stealing over 9000 litres of fuel from the power utility company between January 2018 and December 2019.
Magistrate Utahwashe freed him on $10 000-bail and remanded him out of custody to October 23.
The state alleges that between the mentioned period, Matunja requested fuel coupons for six pool vehicles that were used in his department.
The accused is said to have received 23 260 litres, distributed 14 080 litres to his subordinates and allegedly converted the remainder to his own use.
Prosecutors told the court that Matunja allocated 3 440 litres to a broken down vehicle and he requested some of the fuel for his workmates, including those who will be off duty.
This is happening when investigations are underway to establish the validity or shortcomings of corruption allegations against the ZESA board.
