Karanda Says He Never Implicated Mnangagwas In Rushwaya Gold Incident
Gift Karanda, a former Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) employee has denied State claims that he implicated First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and her son, Collins, in Henrietta Rushwaya’s attempted gold smuggling incident.
Karanda accused the police of making up statements. He said this when he appeared before magistrate Ngoni Nduna for bail hearing on Friday.
Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative Raphinos Mufandauya (37) also denied having any links with Rushwaya.
Mufandauya, through his lawyer Joshua John Chirambwe, claimed he was the one who arrested Rushwaya and had never met her prior to the airport incident on October 26, 2020.
Mufandauya is a CIO operative at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
He is accused of facilitating the smuggling of 6kg of gold using his airport pass to assist three other accomplices to evade security checks.
However, Detective Inspector Michael Chibaya, the investigations officer in the case, said he was unhappy that the defence wanted to scandalise the police.
Chibaya also denied that Mufandauya was the one who arrested Rushwaya.
