Bogus Cops Rob Man Of US$48 000
A man was robbed of his US$48 000 in a fake Nostro transfer deal by two bogus police officers in the Avenues area, Harare.
The suspects, Nokhuthula Sadomba(27) and Patson Mudube (37) appeared before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga on Friday facing robbery charges.
They were remanded in custody to Monday for their bail application.
The robbery victim was looking for a transfer deal to swop his US dollars in cash for US dollars in his Nostro account.
It is alleged that the accomplices of the two accused approached the man pretending as if they had funds for a Nostro transfer and needed cash.
They allegedly accompanied the complainant to Avondale to do the transaction. After they had boarded the complainant’s vehicle to do the transaction, they were pounced on by Sadomba and Mudumbe.
The two identified themselves as police officers and told the complainant that he was under arrest for illegal dealing in foreign currency.
The victim was handcuffed and as they drove to “the police station”, around the Avenues, the robbers threatened the complainant before jumping into their getaway car and speeding off with the US$48 000 in cash.
