Mwonzora Taunts His MDC-T Presidential Rivals
Douglas Mwonzora, the MDC-T acting secretary-general has hit back at his critics who accuse him of trying to manipulate the party’s electoral college ahead of the extraordinary congress, saying they are afraid of losing.
Mwonzora said MDC-T members have already shown their voting patterns and this could have set alarm bells ringing for his detractors within the party. He said:
This is the work of people who are developing butterflies about this election. They are afraid of losing because the members of the MDC-T have already shown their voting patterns.
The electoral college to be used by Congress is going to be tabled before the national standing committee on Tuesday.
It is at that point that the leaders will be able to analyse it. Further, after we have finalised the electoral college on Tuesday, we will send it back to the districts for further verification.
Thereafter, the electoral college will be put in the hands of an independent electoral commission.
Mwonzora, acting president Thokozani Khupe, chairperson Morgen Komichi and former organising secretary Elias Mudzuri, are all in the presidential race.
The MDC-T holds it’s Supreme Court-ordered extraordinary congress on 19 December to elect a substantive president to replace the late Morgan Tsvangirai who died on 14 February 2018.
