11 Armed Robbers Arrested During Midnight Raid At Maruta

Police and other security agencies have arrested 11 armed robbers at Maruta Shopping Centre, Hatfield in Harare this Thursday.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the incident occurred at around 0330 hours today.

ARREST OF ARMED ROBBERS IN HARARE

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of eleven suspects in connection with an armed robbery case that occurred at Maruta Shopping Centre, Hatfield in Harare on 25 February 2021 at around 0330 hours.

Police and other security service officers were manning a roadblock along Seke/Delport Road when they received information to the effect that a complainant (30) was being attacked at Maruta Shopping Centre.

They reacted to the information and proceeded to the scene and arrested Tatenda Manongwa (26), Jabulani Majoni (32), Blessing Mabhureni (27), John Machingauta (26), Piyson Pamehenza (male adult), Lawrance Kwashira (20), Tinashe Nyamaumba (25), Professor Majaya (28), Ashington Chamunorwa (31), Tashinga Madzana (male adult) and Farai Mangwanani (32) who were armed with two 303 rifles, iron bars, a sjambok and a catapult.
The suspects were intercepted before taking anything from the complainant.

Police investigations are underway to establish the origin of the firearms. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to Mbuya Dorcas Hospital for medical attention.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has intensified efforts to account for robbery syndicates who are moving around the country attacking members of the public who include motorists, business people and people walking or moving alone.
