MDC Alliance Planning To Protest Because Party Officials Are Now Convinced The Non-Confrontational Approach Won't Work - Report

Some MDC Alliance are now convinced that their non-confrontational approach to the ruling party’s alleged maladministration will not work and they are working towards confronting the government through protests, ZimMorning Post reports.

The party’s National Standing Committee reportedly resolved to abandon its non-confrontational approach according to a senior party official who said the nation should brace for a sea of protests:

The nation should brace itself for a long winter of discontent as we plan to roll out massive protests countrywide. Some officials are now very clear that a non-confrontational approach will not work.

What is clear is that the opposition has been stripped of everything, from the party name, political finance funding, its headquarters as well as being removed from parliament and council. We cannot continue to behave as if it is business as usual. We have to adapt to survive or die.

Another party official said the confrontation was their only way to relaunch their party after the Supreme Court restored the 2014 party structures making Khupe the MDC T president instead of Chamisa. Said the official who refused to be named:

We are paralysed because we no longer have a platform to fight our cause. We have an opportunity to regroup, strategize and refocus.

It was agreed during Wednesday’s National Standing Committee that there is now a need to re-energize the base to kickstart a season of protests.

There is no better opportunity to relaunch the real movement of the people than this. We are now back to the drawing board and it is the people who will carry this movement. We have all agreed that we should now adopt the characteristics of a real movement if we are to dispose of Zanu PF.

We do not have guns but we have the people. These are the people who will see us through.

Meanwhile, Nelson Chamisa hinted at a new party name on Saturday as he said they are building a new home for everyone.

Zanu PF is yet to respond to the reports that people will protest against the government, but it is most likely to respond sooner than later.
