Zimbabwe Police Throw Tear Smoke At An Occupied Bus

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that it is investigating a case in which some police officers threw tear smoke into a bus with passengers.

Passengers included toddlers. Some passengers who were at the back of the bus eventually managed to get out through the windows.

In a statement, police said:

The ZRP is investigating the alleged tear smoke incident on a Mlaudzi bus where people are seen scurrying to safety and assistance on a video which has gone viral on social media.

The ZRP does not condone such acts by police officers and will certainly ensure action is taken without fear or favour. The public is urged to assist in identifying these officers and also the exact place where the incident took place.

While authorities have been speaking against such behaviour, this is not the first time for police to use tear smoke to force occupants out of a bus.

Last year October, some ZRP Officers were filmed throwing teargas in an occupied bus at Harare Agricultural Show Grounds.

The Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services later claimed that the police officers had been arrested.
