MDC-T Harare Stands With Mwonzora As Party "Splits"

Opposition MDC-T’s Harare Province has said it stands with Douglas Mwonzora as the party splits following the suspension of Vice President Thokozani Khupe. In response to her ouster, Khupe held a pinto two factions, one led by Mwonzora and presser on Friday where she said she was now in charge of the party claiming that Mwonzora had expelled himself from the party by claiming that he was the leader of the MDC Alliance. The presser that was held in Bulawayo was attended by scores of people suggesting that she has a huge following. Meanwhile, Mwonzora could have found comfort in that Harare said it stands with him. Pindula News presents a statement issued by Fungai Chiposi, the party secretary for Information and Publicity in Harare:

HARARE PROVINCE STANDS WITH THE LEGITIMATE AND ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE MDC-T AND MDC ALLIANCE, PRESIDENT DOUGLAS T. MWONZORA

The MDC-T Harare Province led by Chairman Zivai Mhetu would like to put it on record that it stands resolutely and unequivocally with the elected and legitimate President of the MDC-T as well as leader of the MDC Alliance, Douglas T. Mwonzora.

The Province hereby dismisses the so-called statement by suspended Vice President Thokozani Khupe alleging that there is a split in the party. The wishes of a few misguided imposters gathered from opposing political parties will never be the voice of the majority of MDC-T family.

Further, Harare Province stands with the decision of President Mwonzora to suspend Thokozani Khupe. Ever since the conclusion of our successful Extraordinary Congress, the Province noted numerous provocations instigated by the former Vice President and efforts to disrupt the rebuilding exercise being driven by our beloved movement and President.

Harare Province remains committed behind President Mwonzora. As such we are completing Primary Elections for by-elections as well as finalising preparations for our party’s 5th Ordinary Congress scheduled for 5 March 2022.
