Sikhala's "I Slapped Chaibva" Remarks Torch Storm

Job Sikhala Friday claimed that he once slapped Gabriel Chaibva after a misunderstanding causing divisions on social media.

Sikhala made the claim while responding to Chaibva’s call for the West to lift sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe two decades ago.

Chaibva a former MDC legislator said the sanctions had caused untold suffering to the masses.

He apologised for playing a part in lobbying for “satanic and illegal sanctions.” In response, Sikhala, a senior official in the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leby Nelson Chamisa, said:

Ndaifunga kuti kurwara kwako Chaibva kwakapera. Saka ndakambokukwatura nembama pamba pangu because of this kind of madness. (I thought you healed from your craziness. No wonder I once slapped you at my house, it’s because of this kind of madness.)

Some hailed the Zengeza West legislator saying Chaibva was “crazy.”

Australia-based Susan Mutami, former girlfriend to Temba Mliswa (Norton legislator) threatened to expose Chaibva if he continues making similar utterances. She claimed that Chaibva was being paid by the ruling ZANU PF to speak against sanctions.

Some said Sikhala as a Political elite, should mind his diction as he has the potential to incite violence by his remarks.

Others said the CCC was hypocritical by demanding vice president Constantino Chiwenga to retract his “CCC is like lice, we will crush in in due course,” remarks whey its members are publicly confessing to violence.

Intra-party and inter-Party violence has been on the rise in Zimbabwe in recent years raising concern as the country is preparing for by-elections scheduled for the 26th of this month and 2023 harmonised elections.

Election watchdogs say the upcoming elections will likely not be free, fair and credible due to violence.
