ZANU PF Elites Reportedly Dangling Cash, Gifts Ahead Of Central Committee Elections
ZANU PF members eyeing the party’s Central Committee posts in the elections set for this weekend are reportedly dangling gifts such as cell phones, cash and tablets, NewZimbabwe reported.
Those being given gifts include district chairpersons of the party organs namely, Women’s and Youth Leagues and Veterans of the Liberation Struggle League. An insider told NewZimbabwe:
There is rampant vote buying going on despite calls by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to stop it as it has a negative effect on the 2023 harmonised election results. Some district chairpersons got tablets from a certain former councillor who brought them from Dubai.
FeedbackThere have also been reports of politicians paying for accommodation at hotels and lodges for their trusted lieutenants, who are then expected to cast ballots in their favour.
A named minister reportedly paid for rooms at Mazvikadei Resorts in Banket, where supporters have been housed since Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the party’s elective Congress is scheduled to be held this month in Harare where party leader, President Emmerson Mnangagwa is poised to get an endorsement to be the party’s presidential election scheduled for 2023.
