The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has uncovered a 1,000-member gay syndicate in Harare operating through a WhatsApp group called “Private Lounge” to facilitate the illegal relationships, reported The Herald.
The investigation followed the arrest of a 25-year-old man and a teenager in Highfield engaged in a gay relationship.
The man lives in New Canaan, and works at a local supermarket, while the teenager is a Form Four student from Glen Norah B Extension.
The teenager joined the WhatsApp group in January 2024, introduced himself, and sought a partner.
After connecting with the man, they agreed to meet at Machipisa Shopping Centre, and the teenager later visited the man’s home.
The teenager’s father found love messages from the man on his son’s phone and blocked the contact.
On October 7, 2024, the man attempted to contact the teenager via his mother’s phone, prompting the father to report the matter to the police.
The man was taken into police custody, while the boy was released to his parents as investigations continue.
ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests. He said:
We confirm that we have picked up two suspects who have assisted us in unearthing a gay and homosexual WhatsApp group with more than 1,000 participants who have been meeting at various places and houses in Harare. Investigations are still in progress.
In Zimbabwe, gay relationships are illegal. In February 2024, the government warned organisations that were enticing youths into homosexuality through educational scholarships, labelling these LGBT scholarships as unlawful and unChristian.
The Office of the President and Cabinet recently criticised foreign interests for trying to attract Zimbabwean students to what it described as “alien, anti-life, unAfrican, and unChristian values.”

We must learn not to hate another for being different; we must find mutual ground for respecting the
"other”. Do not needlessly attack other religions or paths unless they trespass upon yours! If we fail to
do this, we become as the monotheistic cults of destruction.
Luciferians recognize the self has exceptional possibility. How we think, words spoken andLuciferians accept homos.e.x.uality as much as heteros.e.x.uality; it is a right of man and woman to feel
confident in their own orientation without judgment.
let's learn to support same-s.e.x marriage and
unions. Some may ask why? The answer I give is simply if you are heteros.e.xual then why would
homos.e.xuality bother you? Let's stop imposing a moral law based on religious feelings
or otherwise; if you per chance feel “disgusted” then perhaps a deeper exploration of the root of your
emotions is required. If you feel “it is just not right”, there is most likely a moralistic “wall” built by
the monotheistic background imposed upon us in our culture from an early childhood.
We need to break not only spiritual and social taboos which relates to religion, morality and understanding the
primal instinct and desires within but developing a deep structure of morality and balance.
Self-
Liberation from religious dogma with awareness of self-accountability for the present and future is
begun in the early stages.
It is important to note that gay people do not harm you in any way.Anal s.e.x is actually less harmful compared to ****l s.ex which causes cervical cancer and STIS/STD Especially with Prostitutes all over the place spreading HIV .
If the government wants to prohibit something, they must start by banning alcohol and smoking because thousands of people die every year due to lung cancer together with liver cirrhosis.Plus alcohol is responsible for thousands of drunken driving related accidents and deaths.
Gay people don't go around raping people like Heteros.e.xuals.Gay s.e.x is consensual. We must stop policing what people do in their bedrooms privately. Are you telling me that if I engage in anal s.e.x with my wife you will arrest us, what if that's what we both enjoy?
It's about time we break, the Myths and misconceptions about Homos e.xuality, and allow people to govern their ownprivates parts, that's why is called"private parts".

It is kinda laughable how alleged vanguards of human rights and pillars of equality are busy jumping on the throat of someone who just exercised his freedom of speech... Archaic colonial era laws have no place in Zimbabwe and those that support them are only doing so out of ignorance or pathetic religious fundamentalism....I laugh at Christians and how deluded they are defending a foreign culture and middle eastern fairytales remastered by the Europeans as if they are true.... Vana Mbo-ko moswera muchiti tiri kuda mahuman rights, freedom of speech and association then you also have to be prepared to give these people their rights too no matter what you think. As soon as this country is free from Zanu be prepared to see the judiciary flooded with petitions on this issue, the constitution is still secular and not based on religion and on this very basis these people are going to claim that outlawing them is unconstitutional. It happened just recently in Namibia despite the Ruling Party there vehemently opposed to it but the moment you get a free judiciary and a democratic country be prepared for this because what you think will not matter at all. So if you support the Opposition just know that you aren't going to escape this, the Opposition will need Western help to get the economy going again so they won't be able to continue with homophobic tendencies. As for me, all I want is a country that is firing on all fronts all this other nonsense is non of my business and frankly I don't care what the gay community does, and also I think it is heavily unfair to want to be freed from suffocating Zanu PF rule while at the same time wanting others to keep being suppressed. NdomaHuman Rights acho iwayo amunoswero chemera, it is a whole package, you can't choose what you like and chuck out the rest you don't like, it doesn't work like that. Namibia and South Africa have free courts that's why it is permitted, it doesn't matter what the ANC and SWAPO wants but what matters is whether it's unconstitutional or not.

Comrade, I share the same sentiments with you. One thing that I heavily ponder on when it comes to this issue of Human Rights is that lets be prepared to have the whole cake not a slice of it. These people who are against the alphabet team are also the same people who are saying the archaic regime is abusing the state resources in enforcing police brutality on civilians.
Personally, I do not really care about what they do behind closed doors because it is their business. What I care about is the government being accountable for its duties which are: making sure that there is basic necessities such as but not limited to clean water, people are getting their basic wages which allows them to spend however they want and still have some savings, health care system is at par, transport system is restored, a stable economy. Recently people woke up being told that their salaries that they had worked and earned through blood, sweat and tears had lost a significant 40% value.
How is that for food for thought.

@Anonymous, you are absolutely right, it's concerning how a sizable chunk of Opposition supporters still want to maintain archaic laws, we should have the whole cake as you rightly said there. Proper democracy goes hand in hand with economic prosperity, just look at how Americans believe that they are the most free people on this planet and how it has worked wonders for them. I also want that for us, there is that special something about freedom you know, it just galvanises the whole population and I'm sure it will inspire the whole country into doing amazing things while also attracting Africa's best who will be escaping suppression elsewhere.
