Born: 1 April 1983, Chipinge District Hospital. [1]

School / Education

Primary: Clearwater Primary School in Chipinge from 1991 to 1997.
Secondary: 1998 and 1999, Ngaone Secondary School in Chipinge District. He later transferred to Musirizwi Secondary School in the same district where he attended school from 2000 and 2001. He did his Advanced Level studies at Chinaa High School.
Tertiary: 2023, studying for a Sports Science degree at Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE).

Service/Career

Mangombe started playing football in primary school and started featuring on the school’s team card as early as Grade Four at Clearwater Primary School and captained the team when he was in Grade Five.

2005, joined the Zimbabwe Republic Police and while a recruit at ZRP Morris Depot, he played for ZRP Morris. He was selected to play in the SAPRCO Games that were held in Botswana and "it was rare back then for a recruit to play in the SARPCO Games."

2006 to 2008, played for Black Mambas in the Northern Region. He played alongside Sebastian Mtizirwa, Peter Kachirika and Masimba Dinyero who was retiring by then. He sustained a serious knee injury and as a result, in 2009, he decided to undertake coaching studies. Mangombe attained a Level One coaching certificate while still playing. He went on to do Level Two while still playing football. He then did Level Three and CAF C coaching courses and was assisted by ZRP throughout his coaching studies.

Coaching Career

Mangombe later worked as an assistant to John Nyikadzino who had worked as Clemency Chakwamba's assistant when ZRP Morris was promoted to the Premier Soccer League. He was invited to Prince Edward by Rodwell Dhlakama and stayed there until he became head coach for the Under-17s.

On 25 January 2019, Mangombe was confirmed as the new Yadah Stars head coach. He took over from Thomas Rusive who had moved to Black Rhinos Football Club as assistant to Herbert Maruwa. This was his first job in the top-flight league after spending most of his coaching career in the lower divisions with clubs that include ZRP Harare and Hetchford FC.

He was also the 2017 head coach for the ZRP Team Zimbabwe at the SARPCCO Games in Lesotho. In September 2019, Genesis Mangombe said he was stepping down as Yadah FC coach after he had a public spat with the team manager, Billy Sinani, on the eve of a match, which his club lost 2-0 to Bulawayo Chiefs Football Club. [2]

Mangombe apparently remained in his job as he successfully guided The Miracle Boys to Premier Soccer League safety after beating already relegated Mushowani Stars Football Club on the final day of the 2019 season on 14 December. [3]

Mangombe left Yadah to take a lesser role at Dynamos as an assistant to then newly appointed head coach Herbert Maruwa ahead of the 2023 season, following the departure of Tonderai Ndiraya. [4]

On 8 August 2023, Dynamos announced the appointment of Mangombe as acting head coach after the sacking of Maruwa. [5]

National Team

On 21 September 2023, Mangombe was appointed as the second assistant to Warriors coach Baltemar José de Oliveira Brito by the ZIFA Normalisation Committee until June 2024. [6]

His first match in the role was an invitational match against the Zebras to celebrate Botswana’s Independence Day on 30 September 2023.

Achievements

On 03 December 2023, Mangombe guided Dynamos Football Club to its first Chibuku Super Cup title in 2023 after beating Ngezi Platinum Stars at the Baobab Stadium.
