Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the above mentioned post.

The Public Relations Manager reports to the Chief Executive officer and should have ability to lead, direct and oversee the Authority's Marketing and Public Relations function in an effort to promote the Authority's brand and reputation. The successful candidate will ensure timely and consistent communication with various stakeholders and the community at large and must possess excellent communication'skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leveraging the Authority's brand through strategic communication and promoting brand awareness.
  • Advancement and implementation of marketing, public relations strategies, business plans and budgets.
  • Research, preparation and dissemination of information and content for press releases, Authority website, calendars, magazines, newsletters, exhibitions, fairs and otherAuthority events.
  • Coordinating with media companies, advertising agencies and suppliers that provide marketing support and produce marketing materials.
  • Development and implementation ofAuthority-wide communications plan and managing and maintaining Authority social media accounts and pages.
  • Arranging international delegation programmes ensuring alignment with Authority programmes and research thrust.
  • Hosting delegations and act as Authority representative.
  • Critically assess data and information from delegates' visits and events to identify and recommend opportunities and implement improvements.
  • Coordinate funding agencies arrangements ensuring compliance with internal and external governance requirements.
  • Handling Public Relations responses to 'crisis' situations.
  • Preparing / briefing the Authority spokesperson before interviews or any engagement with press.
  • And any other duties assigned by the superiors. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Marketing / Communication Studies or related area.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing / English or Communication Studies from a recognized Institution.
  • At least five (5) years relevant post-qualification experience in a Marketing, Public Relations or International Relations position, three (3) of which should be at managerial level.
  • Membership of a recognized professional board such as the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe or the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Relations, and experience in a public sector environment is an added advantage.
  • Possession of strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

BAZ was established through an Act of Parliament in 2001 providing for the functions, powers and duties of the authority. BAZ falls under the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. BAZ issues licenses to television and radio broadcasting companies in Zimbabwe.
