'Angry' MSU Student Pleads Guilty To Attempting To Set Bus On Fire At Accident Scene
A Midlands State University (MSU) student, Denford Semwayo (25) of Clear Water Chipinge, pleaded guilty to a charge of malicious damage to property when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate, Joshua Nembaware.
Semwayo was sentenced to eight months in prison of which five months were conditionally suspended, with the remainder suspended on condition he pays $400 damages to Trip Trans bus company. In mitigation, Semwayo said:
I was angry because I had been assaulted by people who had disembarked from the bus. I ask for forgiveness and for the State to exercise leniency when arriving on its sentence since I am still a student who is in the middle of his studies at MSU.
Semwayo was arrested following a road rage incident on September 6 when he smashed the bus’s windows with burning logs after it had side-swiped a Honda Fit vehicle in which he was a passenger.
