"So Heart Wrenching," - Chamisa On The Plight Of Workers3 years ago
Nelson Chamisa, a leader in the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party has called upon the government to address the plight of workers.
He made the remarks in his speech to commemorate the International Workers Day this Friday. Chamisa said:
Our doctors earn close to $5 000, an equivalent of US$100; this does not happen anywhere else in the world, our soldiers and police are earning less than US$20.
The poverty levels they face every day are so heart wrenching.Feedback
He also called upon the government to pay workers in United States dollars which he said give value to workers who now live in abject poverty.
Chamisa’s remarks resonate with those of workers and their representatives who have always urged the government to pay in US dollars using the interbank rate of the day.
Last year, doctors staged one of the longest industrial actions in the history of Zimbabwe to compel the government to review their salaries up and to ensure that their working places were safe.
