PTUZ: Online Lessons Will Always Be Problematic
The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) is not in favour of online lessons as most of the pupils will not be able to access tutorials due to the exorbitant prices of data and a lack of electronic gadgets.
PTUZ Secretary General Raymond Majongwe argued that some teachers are not even capacitated to deliver online lessons, therefore, e-learning is not practical at the moment. He said:
Online lessons will always be problematic, many kids will not be able to access it because of the high costs of data and its basically meant to make certain people rich along the way, secondly, we must also make it very clear that the service providers are the ones who are benefitting, education must never be expensive and out of reach for the power.Feedback
To start off with, many teachers are actually not capacitated well for these online lessons to happen, as I have always said, modernity cannot benefit those who have not invested in it pupils and teachers need gadgets and as long as the gadgets are out of reach and are a luxury, online learning will always be a mirage, it is surely going to be a money-making scheme for people who are going to claim that they are doing something about it because for as long as the generality of the citizens isn’t going to be beneficiaries then the whole thing is meaningless.
This comes after Cabinet on Tuesday resolved that the opening of schools that had been scheduled for July 28 be postponed indefinitely considering the sharp increase in local transmissions of coronavirus over the past week.
