ZIFA Making Consultation On How To Disburse The FIFA COVID-19 Relief Fund

ZIFA is reportedly consulting its affiliates on how to best disburse the COVID-19 relief funds it received from FIFA and CAF, Sunday News reports.

Last week ZIFA had a crunch meeting with PSL and the later reportedly convinced ZIFA to disburse the funds in foreign currency after ZIFA had previously announced it will disburse the money to clubs in local currency at the prevailing rate.

Speaking about the consultations, Phillemon Machana, the ZIFA board member in charge of finance said:

We are now consulting, we are going to meet the regions and all those who make up the regions from Wednesday to Saturday. When we have finished the four regions, at the end we would have met the entire Zifa Assembly. Seeing that there are restrictions, the meetings might be virtual, the engagement process is ongoing.

Machana also said the ultimate decision of how the funds will be disbursed will be left to ZIFA even after the consultations:

From where we stand, it is encouraging that people are finding their voices, the ultimate decision in between congresses lies with the executive committee. From our meetings, we might agree to what PSL clubs are proposing or stick with what we had decided.

ZIFA is set to receive $1.5 Million from FIFA and $300 000 from CAF to help local clubs argument the effects of the pandemic which grounded many sporting activities worldwide.
