FC Platinum and Bulawayo Chiefs were excluded from the 2023/24 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions, respectively, despite the lifting of the FIFA suspension this month.
This was confirmed by CAF ahead of Tuesday’s draw in Cairo, Egypt.
FC Platinum are Castle Lager Premiership champions while Bulawayo Chiefs are the Chibuku Super Cup winners.
Chairman of the recently-appointed ZIFA normalisation committee, Lincoln Mutasa said Zimbabwe will only be able to send teams to the CAF inter-club competitions next year.
Mutasa said that when the clubs were slotted in, Zimbabwe was still under FIFA suspension. He said:

The teams were entered when we were under suspension. We will only be able to send teams to the inter-club competitions next year.
</blockquote>
However, the Warriors have been included in the FIFA 2026 World Cup African Zone qualifiers.
Zimbabwe was drawn against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Rwanda, Lesotho and Benin.

FC Platinum, Bulawayo Chiefs Excluded From CAF Competitions

The Gerald Mlotshwa-led Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has expressed satisfaction over recent engagements with officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA.
The officials from FIFA, CAF and COSAFA were in the country this week on a fact-finding mission.
In a statement released on Thursday night, SRC said it held “productive meetings” with the officials and they broadly agreed on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation. Reads the statement:

Throughout the week, FIFA and CAF engaged with various stakeholders and officials involved in Zimbabwean football to gather their perspectives.
A common sentiment among these stakeholders was the need for strong, lawful governance structures to support Zimbabwe’s return to international football, as well as a commitment to implementing necessary reforms for the sport’s future development and success in the country.
The SRC has also been involved in productive discussions with FIFA and CAF, including COSAFA, with a mutual goal of resolving the issues surrounding the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
The conversations have been marked by good faith from all parties and a genuine interest in advancing solutions.
The outcomes of these discussions have been promising, with the SRC, CAF, and FIFA generally agreeing on the next steps to address ZIFA’s current situation.
… The commission deeply appreciates the firm support and positions taken by all stakeholders involved in this week’s consultations.
These stakeholders have been clear about the changes needed in Zimbabwean football and have collectively called for a swift resolution to ZIFA’s challenges.

The SRC said will provide further updates to the public on the matter in the first week of May 2023.
The SRC did not reveal the issues they agreed on with representatives from both FIFA and CAF.

SRC Optimistic After Meeting FIFA, CAF Delegation

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed the visit to Zimbabwe of a delegation consisting of FIFA and CAF officials this week.
The delegation is on a fact-finding mission to map the way forward following ZIFA’s ban from international football in 2022.
The PSL chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele said they have been invited to interact with the delegation during its three-day visit to Zimbabwe.
Ndebele was quoted by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/sport/article/200010303/fifa-visit-excites-psl">NewsDay</a> as saying they will try to convince FIFA to lift Zimbabwe’s suspension from international football. Said Ndebele:

This serves to confirm that as PSL we have been invited to attend a FIFA/CAF mission which will be in Zimbabwe from April 17 to April 19, 2023. Our meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2023.
We are excited as the PSL that we have the privilege of meeting the FIFA/CAF delegation.
All the club chairpersons who are the governors for the PSL have been invited and have confirmed their attendance.
This is an important meeting. We are excited and looking forward to positive engagement with the FIFA/CAF mission so that we re-engage and get our football back on track.
It is our hope that we will have positive input for us to then get FIFA to look at the way forward.
We will present all the challenges that we are facing in our football; hopefully, we will then get FIFA to relook at the suspension of Zimbabwe and we are back to the football family.
… It is important for all the PSL clubs to be represented and interface with this high level delegation that obviously is also looking forward to Zimbabwe getting back into the FIFA family.
We have had years of stagnation, years of lack of development, years of yearning to be better than some member associations but we seem to be lagging behind a lot.

The FIFA/CAF delegation includes Sarah Solemane, senior MA Governance Manager, Solomon Mudege, head of development programmes Africa and regional office development manager South Africa, David Fani.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe on 25 February 2022 for alleged third-party interference after the SRC had suspended the ZIFA board led by Felton Kamambo on 16 November 2021.
The other ZIFA executives suspended are Philemon Machana, Bryton Malandule and Joseph Mamutse.

Premier Soccer League Officials Invited To Meet FIFA/CAF Delegation

A six-member FIFA delegation is expected to arrive in Zimbabwe on Monday morning in a move that may culminate in the readmission of Zimbabwe to the international football community.
The delegation, which includes officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), will meet the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC).
The FIFA and CAF officials will spend three days in the country.
The <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/fifa-descend-on-zim">Sunday Mail</a> reported that FIFA head of development programmes in Africa, Solomon Mudege; the senior member associations governance manager, Sarah Solemale and David Fani, who heads the FIFA regional office for Southern Africa, are among the officials expected in Zimbabwe.
CAF director of member associations Sarah Mukuna and COSAFA president Artur de Almeida e Silva are part of the delegation.
The report says there is a possibility of FIFA appointing a Normalisation Committee to oversee the reform process, which would then culminate in elections to choose a new leadership. The Sunday Mail reported a source as saying:

As you know by now, FIFA and SRC have been discussing ZIFA matters continuously over the last year, with most of those meetings being virtual.
Only two weeks ago, another virtual meeting between the parties was held and it seems that was the breakthrough indaba in that the idea of a Normalisation Committee seemed to have gained traction.
The FIFA delegation wants to take time to hear from the SRC board on the situation at ZIFA and get an on-the-ground appreciation of what is obtaining in Zimbabwe football.
It appears that all the key parties to the discussions agreed that at this point the best solution for ZIFA is a Normalisation Committee that will oversee fresh elections within ZIFA, as well as ensure that the new executive implements the roadmap.

FIFA Delegation Expected In Zimbabwe On Monday

Zimbabwe has been barred from participating in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) inter-club competitions in the 2022/23 season.
CAF excluded Zimbabwean teams from the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup draws held in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.
The development comes after the Sports and Recreational Commission (SRC) failed to meet FIFA conditions for the world football governing body to overturn Zimbabwe’s suspension from international tournaments.
Zimbabwe has already been barred from participating in the AFCON, CHAN and COSAFA Cup tournaments following the suspension.
The first round of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup matches will take place between September 9 and September 18, while the second round matches are set for October 7 till October 16.
FIFA suspended Zimbabwe from international football early this year after the SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led ZIFA board in November last year in violation of FIFA statutes that prohibit third-party interference.
FIFA has since directed the SRC to reinstate the suspended board for the world football governing board to lift the suspension on Zimbabwe.
However, SRC says it is not bothered by the suspension but will continue to implement what it calls long-term reforms to clean up local football.

CAF Excludes Zimbabwe From Inter-club Competitions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says the recently appointed ZIFA executive led by Gift Banda is illegitimate and should, among other things, stop using the funds deposited by CAF or FIFA in the ZIFA bank accounts.
In a letter dated 20 July 2022, addressed to the Secretary General of ZIFA, CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba said ZIFA’s suspension is still in place and will only be lifted once the stipulated conditions are met.
The conditions include SRC reinstating Felton Kamambo and Joseph Mamutse and the commission withdrawing a court case against the pair. Pindula News is publishing the letter from CAF to ZIFA below:

<h2>RE: Recent Developments and Status in Zimbabwean Football</h2>
We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 14 June 2022.
We refer to the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 suspending ZIFA on the basis of Article 14 paragraphs 1 i) and 3 of the FIFA Statutes as well as Article 16 paragraph 1, of the FIFA Statutes as ratified by the FIFA Congress meeting of 31 March 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
The above decision is clear and unequivocal that the suspension will only be lifted if:
(i) The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) repeals the decision of 26 November 2020 suspending the ZIFA General Secretary
(ii) SRC repeals the SRC decision of 16 November 2021 suspending the ZIFA Board
(iii) SRC repeals the SRC decision of 17 December 2021 setting up the restructuring committee
(iv) FIFA receives confirmation from ZIFA and its management, led by President Felton Kamambo and General Secretary Joseph Mamutse, that ZIFA and its premises are once more under their full and unconditional control; and
(v) SRC withdraws the court case against the ZIFA President, three other ZIFA Board members and the General Secretary for allegedly misusing ZIFA’s letterheads
However, CAF’s attention has since been drawn to a number of developments, inter alia:
(i) An Extraordinary General Assembly meeting convened on 23 April 2022 during which a decision was apparently taken to revoke the mandate of three Executive Committee members including the President Mr. Kamambo and two others Mr. Malandule and Mr. Machana.
(ii) A letter dated 24 May 2022 from the SRC to ZIFA lifting its suspension of ZIFA’s Secretary General but subjecting the same to certain unspecified conditions.
(iii) A letter dated 8 June 2022 from SRC lifting the suspensions of three Executive Committee members, Mrs. Barbara Chikosi and Messrs. Farai Jere and Sugar Chagonda whilst confirming that BDO Chartered Accountants have commenced their forensic audit into the financial and operational affairs of ZIFA; and
(iv) That with the assistance of the SRC, a committee claiming to be the bona fide ZIFA Executive Committee has made themselves signatories to ZIFA’s bank accounts and is subsequently transacting the proceeds deposited by CAF and FIFA.
We would like to inform you as follows:
1. The SRC’s letters dated 24 May and 8 June 2022 contravene Article 7 paragraph 1(a) and
(g) of the CAF Statutes which respectively state as follows:
“ARTICLE 7
MEMBERS’ OBLIGATIONS
Members of CAF shall have the following obligations:
a)To respect, and ensure that their own members respect, at all times unreservedly the principles of ethics and fair play enacted by CAF and FIFA, the principles of integrity and sportsmanship as well as the Statutes, regulations, decisions and directives of CAF and FIFA.
g) To manage their affairs independently and free of intrusions and interferences of any kind by any person or body”
2. None of the conditions stated in the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 as
ratified by the FIFA Congress on 31 March 2022 has been fully and unconditionally met.
3. Pursuant to Article 16 paragraph 3 of the FIFA Statutes, “A suspended member association may not exercise any of its membership rights.”, such rights being defined in Article 13 of the FIFA Statutes.
Consequently, CAF hereby directs ZIFA to immediately cease using and accessing any funds deposited by FIFA or CAF in the ZIFA accounts.
Please note that a breach of this directive will be regarded as a violation of the FIFA Council decision dated 24 February 2022 as ratified by the FIFA Congress on 31 March 2022 and may subject ZIFA or the officials involved to disciplinary sanctions.
CAF will continue to monitor the developments in Zimbabwean football.
</blockquote>

CAF Says New ZIFA Executive Is Illegitimate

Zimbabwe <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_National_Football_Team">Warriors</a>, who were recently barred from participating in the 2023 AFCON qualifying tournament, were this week disqualified from the upcoming CHAN qualifiers where they had been drawn to face Malawi. 
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had included them in both qualifiers on the condition that they get the FIFA suspension lifted two weeks before the opening matches. 
The first round, first leg matches of the CHAN qualifiers have been scheduled to be held between July 22 and 24. 
However, responsible authorities have indicated that the local football administration needed greater attention and they have since embarked on a restructuring process fronted by the Sports and Recreation Commission. 
CAF on Tuesday confirmed that the Flames of Malawi were through to the second round of the 2022 CHAN qualifiers without kicking a ball following Zimbabwe’s decision. The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) received a letter from CAF confirming the development. Read the letter from CAF to FAM:

We are referring to the suspension of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Football_Association_(ZIFA)">Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)</a> by FIFA Congress from all football activities. 
Unfortunately, the association of Zimbabwe did not fulfil the criteria set by FIFA Congress and is still under suspension. 
Therefore, we hereby confirm to you that the clause indicated in the draw procedures is applied: In case the suspension of Zimbabwe FA is not lifted 2 weeks before its first match, it will be considered loser and eliminated from the competition. 
Consequently, all the matches of Zimbabwe in the frame of the 1st round of the qualifiers of CHAN 2022 are now cancelled and consequently Malawi is qualified to the 2nd round of the qualifiers.

The Flames will now wait for the winner between Zambia and Mozambique in the second round of the CHAN qualifiers. 
This is the third time in two months that Zimbabwe has been disqualified from international competition due to the FIFA suspension. 
The Warriors, who last competed at the delayed 2021 AFCON finals held in Cameroon in February this year, have been sidelined from the 2023 AFCON qualifiers and the COSAFA Cup, which is currently taking place in South Africa. 
Interim ZIFA president, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gift_Banda">Gift Banda</a> told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/warriors-kicked-out-of-chan/">The Herald</a> that the nation should not be worried about missing these tournaments since long-term solutions are being worked out to solve the crisis in Zimbabwean football. He added that ZIFA has since started communicating with FIFA with hopes for a reinstatement.

Zimbabwe Warriors Disqualified From CHAN Qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee meeting held this Sunday has moved the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to the start of 2024.
The biennial tournament was supposed to be played in June and July 2023 in the Ivory Coast.
CAF resolved to move the tournament from 2023 to 2024 because the rainy season in the Ivory Coast peaks in June and July.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed the latest development at the CAF Executive Committee in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday.
This is the second time CAF has been forced to shift the dates for the tournament.
In 2021, CAF moved the AFCON finals to January and February 2022 because Cameroon was unable to host the competition in the June-July period because of the rainy season.
The CAF Executive Committee meeting also resolved that the CAF Champions League final reverts to home and away format.
It was also resolved that the African Super League will commence in August 2023.

CAF Moves 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Finals To 2024

The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) says Zimbabwe will not participate in this year’s tournament unless FIFA lifts the country’s suspension from international football.
The 2022 edition of the COSAFA Cup competition will be held from 5-17 July in Durban, South Africa.
The draw has been scheduled for 31 May when the teams that will participate in the tournament will be announced. COSAFA said on Monday:

As things stand, Zimbabwe will not be on hand to compete for the title this year after their suspension by FIFA prohibits them from taking part in any football activities.
However, should that suspension be lifted, they will be welcomed to the tournament with open arms, having had such a rich history in the COSAFA Cup down the years and provided so much quality talent for the region.

Zimbabwe Barred From 2022 COSAFA Cup Tournament

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expelled Zimbabwe and Kenya from their respective groups ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
CAF made the drastic move after both nations failed to have their suspensions by FIFA lifted. Both Zimbabwe and Kenya were suspended by FIFA for political interference.
A statement issued by CAF on Monday, 23 May 2022, confirming Zimbabwe and Kenya’s expulsion from the qualifiers read:

As a consequence of having failed to have their suspensions by FIFA set aside, CAF has confirmed that both Kenya and Zimbabwe will not participate in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023 qualifiers.
The qualifiers will kick off on the first day of June 2022.
CAF had included them in the official draw earlier in April 2022 on condition that the suspension must be lifted two weeks before their first match day.
Kenya and Zimbabwe, suspended for political interference, have not yet met the criteria required by the FIFA Congress as a prerequisite for lifting their suspension. As a result:
<h2>Because of the suspension, the following will apply:</h2>
<ul>
<li>The two associations; Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA)will be considered losers and eliminated from the competition.</li>
<li>Groups C and K will be composed only of three teams and the order of the matches will be maintained in accordance with the match schedule that has been communicated to the teams after the draw.</li>
<li>The first and runner-up teams of those groups will qualify for the final tournament.</li>

Zimbabwe Expelled From 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Zimbabwe and Kenya will be included in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying draw despite being under an indefinite FIFA ban.
The two nations will be in the hat when the draw is conducted on Tuesday in Johannesburg despite being banned by FIFA over government interference.
A Confederation of African Football (CAF) spokesman told AFP that they hope the bans would have been rescinded by the time the qualifiers commence. Said CAF:

We have included the two countries in the hope that the bans will be lifted no later than two weeks before the first matchday in June.
</blockquote>
In Zimbabwe, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) sacked ZIFA executives led by Felton Kamambo over issues including failing to account for public funds, resulting in the ban.
In Kenya, the sports ministry officials disbanded the national football federation after its president, Nick Mwendwa, was charged with multiple counts of fraud.
CAF has set a deadline of mid-May for the bans to be lifted or Zimbabwe and Kenya will not be allowed to participate in the AFCON qualifiers.
Should the two countries fail to have the suspensions lifted, the groups they are placed in will shrink from four nations to three.
However, the top two finishers will still qualify for the finals.
The first two qualifying matchdays are scheduled between 30 May and 14 June 2022.
Two more rounds will be played between 19 and 27 September and the final two next year from 20 to 28 March in 2023.
Ivory Coast will host the tournament which has expanded from just 8 teams when the country last hosted the tournament in 1984, to the current 24.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed reports that a Confederation of African Football (CAF) doping control officer who passed away on Tuesday night was beaten by fans until he lost his consciousness.
The Zambian doctor, Joseph Kabungo, was working as a medical officer at the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff between Nigeria and Ghana when he died shortly after the game at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
NFF said Kabungo died of a cardiac arrest. In a statement, NFF said the deceased was found near the dressing room of the Ghanaian team. General Secretary Mohamed Sanusi was quoted as saying:

However, it is important to state the facts as they are. According to the information from our own medical officer, Dr Onimisi Ozi Salami who was appointed by FIFA as medical officer for the game, Dr Kabungo was found gasping for breath near the dressing room of the Ghanaian team.
I was notified and ordered that he should be rushed to the hospital. He didn’t make it. He died just as they got to the hospital.
I was heading to the dressing room of the Nigerian team when the General Coordinator, Kabore Hubert Bosilong from South Africa called my attention. Dr Kabungo suddenly started gasping for breath.
The FIFA Security Officer for the match, Mr Dixon Adol Okello from Uganda also witnessed the incident.
We tried to resuscitate him there and then, but when this did not appear to be working, we put him in an ambulance and rushed him to Cedar Crest Hospital in Apo, where he gave up the ghost.
It is a very sad incident and one is shocked that some persons have been putting a terrible slant to the whole thing by saying he was beaten up by fans. That is a lie. He died as a result of sudden cardiac arrest.

'CAF Doctor Died Of Cardiac Arrest, Not Stampede'

The Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry says the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has been in constant communication with CAF and FIFA over the past two years to resolve the various challenges bedevilling local football.
In a statement, Coventry said the SRC wanted to respect the sovereign laws of Zimbabwe while at the same time respecting CAF and FIFA statutes.
She said after nearly two years of communication, there has been no change on the part of the ZIFA board.
On the contrary, the ZIFA board are still in and out of court fighting charges of corruption, bribery, and now new allegations and cases of sexual harassment and abuse of power.
Earlier this week, FIFA banned Zimbabwe and demanded an immediate reversal of the SRC suspension of the Felton Kamambo led ZIFA board.
In a statement on Thursday, 24 February, FIFA said Zimbabwe had lost the membership rights that include developmental programmes or training from it or continental football management body CAF.
The ban also bars football clubs from representing the country in continental competitions such as the CAF champions league and CAF confederations cup.
Coventry said the decision to suspend the ZIFA board was not taken lightly but was done for the love of the game. She said:

When we received these allegations of sexual harassment and abuse last year and found out that nothing had been done to protect the women, it was the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
This is what lead to the suspension of the ZIFA Board and Secretary-General.
…. We knew that it might come at a cost, and we are willing to take that risk because sometimes we have to fight for the voiceless, the vulnerable and the powerless.
We will stand next to these strong brave women who have come forward.
We will stand next to our athletes and ensure they have the right opportunities to drive their sport forward.
We will do anything to ensure this sport we all so dearly love is protected and is taken to new heights.
We want to find a way forward with CAF and FIFA, that allows for us as Zimbabwe to thrive as a football nation.

Coventry said that while FIFA and CAF uphold their own statutes, the SRC must do its job to protect and serve the country’s athletes.
She asserted that the SRC will not reinstate alleged sexual predators and individuals fighting legal court cases.

Coventry Responds To FIFA Ban, Says SRC Won't Reinstate Sexual Predators

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) says it will not reverse its decision to suspend the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) board despite the Confederation of African Football (CAF) calling for its reinstatement.
SRC suspended the Felton Kamambo-led board on 16 November 2021 on a litany of allegations that include sexual harassment of female referees, incompetence and failure to account for public funds.
SRC board chairman Gerald Mhlotswa and the minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry held a Zoom meeting with CAF secretary-general, Véron Mosengo-Omba on Friday.
During the meeting, Mosengo-Omba, a former regional manager of FIFA’s member associations division for Africa and the Caribbean, demanded that Kamambo and his board be reinstated.
Mosengo-Omba reportedly claimed that the fraud and sexual harassment charges laid against the ZIFA board members were just allegations.
In a statement on Saturday, Mlotshwa said by insisting that the suspended ZIFA board be reinstated, CAF mistakenly believes that FIFA statutes rule supreme over Zimbabwe law. Said Mlotshwa:

ZIFA board members, namely Farai Jere, Sugar Chagonda and Barbara Chikosi have accepted the suspension but others have remained defiant.
Kamambo and other executive committee members Philimon Machana and Stanley Chapeta and secretary-general Joseph Mamutse, have continued to defy their suspensions.
Last Saturday Kamambo, board member finance Philemon Machana and Chapeta were arrested on fraud charges and are currently out on bail pending trial.

Eight African Teams Forced To Host WCQ On Neutral Venues

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) spokesperson and club licensing manager Xolisani Gwesela on Friday undertook an inspection of the National Sports Stadium (NSS), which has been under CAF’s scrutiny for some time.
According to a statement by ZIFA, Gwesela inspected the stadium before he compiles a report that will be used by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to determine the venue of the Warriors’ World Cup qualifier against South Africa in June.
The inspection came a few days after ZIFA was fined US$2 000 by CAF for technical infractions noted at the National Sports Stadium during the Warriors’ match against Zambia on 29 March.
CAF cited the absence of bucket seats, and the general uncleanliness of the stadium as the basis for the sanction.
The Warriors’ match against Algeria played in November last year and against Zambia played last month at the stadium were played under temporary approval granted by CAF in October 2020.
The stadium had been barred from hosting senior men’s international matches in March 2020.
There are concerns that the Warriors could be forced to play their home matches away from home until the National Sports Stadium is fixed.

According to sources that spoke to South Africa’s Timeslive, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has made a deal that could see billionaire Patrice Motsepe being the new CAF President, Newsday reports.
Infantino reportedly made a deal that could see Motsepe’s running mates, Senegal’s Augustin Senghor and Mauritania’s Ahmad Yahya becoming CAF’s first and second vice-president at the CAF elective congress to be held on 12 March in Morocco.
The insiders reportedly told the publication that:

FC Platinum (FCP) coach <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Norman_Mapeza" rel="noopener" target="_blank">Norman Mapeza</a> said the club has to move on from the defeats in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions and wait for the next tournaments.
The 2019 Castle Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions crashed out of both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup after losing to Tanzanian and Senegalese opposition, respectively.
FCP lost 1-4 on aggregate to Tanzanian giants, Simba SC to crash out of the Champions League, and a few weeks later lost 0-1 home and away to Senegelase club ASC Jaraaf.
Speaking in a post-match press conference on Sunday following the 0-1 loss to Jaraaf in the second leg of a Confederation Cup playoff, Mapeza said:

Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum (FCP) safely arrived in Dakar, Senegal, the club said in a statement on Wednesday night.

Lydia Tadesse Becomes First Female Referee At A CAF Tournament

CAF has named Botswana referees to officiate in Saturday’s Total CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg match pitting Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum against Costa Do Sol at Zimpeto Stadium, Maputo, Mozambique.
Keabetswe Dintwa will be assisted by his countrymen Kitso Sibanda (first assistant) and Mohomotsi Morakile (second assistant).
The fourth official is Joshua Bondo, while Malawian Patrick Kapanga is the match commissioner.
Dintwa has been described by football officials in Botswana as a relaxed referee who doesn’t get caught up in ‘noise’.
His first high profile match was a Mascom Top 8 final between Gaborone United and Mochudi Centre Chiefs in 2009.

Botswana Referees For FC Platinum, Costa Do Sol Showdown

Confederation of African Football CAF has not responded to ZIFA’s appeal on why the Under 17 <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/20/zimbabwe-disqualified-from-cosafa/">national team was disqualified</a> from the Confederation of Southern African Football Association Youth Championship(COSAFA).
This was revealed in a statement that was released by ZIFA communications manager, Xolisani Gwesela which stated that the boys were expected to return home today:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Football Association would like to inform the football fraternity and the nation that ZIFA has not received any response from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), following our appeal against the disqualification of our Under 17 team from this year’s edition of the COSAFA Youth Championship.
COSAFA has insisted that in the absence of communication from CAF, the expulsion stands and the team should travel back to Zimbabwe. The on going tournament also serves as the qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals. Consequently, the team will return home tomorrow (Monday).
This does not mean that ZIFA has abandoned its appeal against disqualification, but we have taken this decision to avoid further straining the committed and innocent Young Warriors whose premature exit was disappointing and questionable.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe was disqualified after player(s) failed a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans that scan the hands of players that are used to determine if a player is eligible for Under-17 competitions. Botswana, Comoros Islands, and Eswatini were also disqualified together with Zimbabwe from the same tournament.

CAF Remains Mum On The Under 17 Warriors Disqualification

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has turned down Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions FC Platinum’s request for an exemption for head coach Pieter De Jongh to sit on the bench during CAF Champions League matches.
The Dutchman has a UEFA A license but only Pro license holders are exempted if one has trained outside Africa.
The development was revealed by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Communications and Competitions Manager Xolisani Gwesela on Tuesday. He said in a statement
<blockquote>The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has turned down Hendrikus Pieter De Jongh and FC Platinum’s request for an exemption to allow the head coach to sit on the bench during CAF Interclub matches.
De Jongh is a holder of a UEFA A license obtained in his native country Netherlands. A CAF A coaching license is a prerequisite for all coaches who participate in CAF inter-club competitions.
For coaches from other confederations and those who were trained outside Africa, only valid Pro license holders are exempted.
CAF Club Licensing criterion on Administration and personnel demands that all persons should be qualified for positions that they hold within football structures.
To complement CAF’s stance on promoting the professionalisation of the game, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has also been gradually enforcing club licensing dictates in the elite league.</blockquote>

CAF Shuts Out FC Platinum Coach, Hendrikus Pieter De Jongh

Confederations Of African Football (CAF) has barred journalists from covering the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/03/18/2020-total-african-nations-championships-postponed/">Total Caf Champions League and the Confederation</a> Cup slated for Morocco next week, the Chronicle reports. Only team press members will be allowed to attand the matches, Chronicle reports.
This was contained in a statement published by CAF which states the ban is a COVID-19 containment measure:
<blockquote>After consultations with local health authorities and in accordance with social distancing protocols, it has been decided that media attendance will only be limited two persons from each of the participating teams consisting of club press officer and photographer. Regrettably, no accreditation request from media outlets other than mentioned above will be considered.
Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to stream the pre-match and post-match press conferences on specified Caf Digital platforms for media representatives to follow the activities before, during and after the games. Regarding attendance for the second-leg matches of the Total Caf Champions League in Egypt, media will be informed in due course after consultation with the relevant authorities.</blockquote>
According to the publication, these are the fixtures of the matches that were supposed to be played:

The Minister of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ministry_of_Youth_,Sports,_Arts_and_Recreation">Youth, Sports, and Recreation</a> <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kirsty_Coventry">Kirsty Coventry</a> said Zimbabwe’s football stadiums may get approval to host international matches from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in time for the Zimbabwe-Algeria match.
Coventry said this while responding to Senator Chief Zama Nthua Ngungumbane Mkhwananzi who sought clarity on the status of the country’s local football stadiums during a question and answer session in the Senate on Thursday. Coventry said:
<blockquote>Yes, honourable Senator, our national stadiums have been renovated; that is the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Sports_Stadium">National Sports Stadium</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Barbourfields_Stadium">Barbourfields Stadium</a>.
We are only left with two outstanding issues at the National Stadium that is the procurement of the buffet seats and the electronic ticketing which is now being procured through the tendering process.
This past weekend, there was an inspection team that visited the two stadiums, the one in Barbourfields in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bulawayo">Bulawayo</a> and the other one at the National Sports Stadium.</blockquote>
CAF condemned the use of local stadiums which the continental body ruled unfit for play as they did not meet international standards.
There is a risk that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Premier_Soccer_League">Premier Soccer League</a> Champions <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/FC_Platinum">FC Platinum</a> and the national team, the Warriors, may be forced to play their home matches in a neighbouring country if CAF fails to approve the stadiums.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has incapacitated many sectors of the economy globally, CAF has announced it will bail out teams participating in the in 2019/2020 CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. CAF will give $50 000 to all teams participating to help them cover travel expenses since commercial travel is still restricted in some parts of the continent.
This was revealed by a Ghanaian Sports Journalist Nuhu Adams who Tweeted the update and said:
<blockquote>CAF has decided to support all teams participating in 2019/2020 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup with an amount of US$50,000 for each travel due to the COVID-19 crises and the lack of commercial flights.</blockquote>
CAF also gave African teams a bailout package to help them during the ongoing pandemic and Zimbabwe is set to receive $300 000 from the African Football Governing body.

CAF To Give All Teams Participating In The CAF Champions League And Confederation Cup $50K - Report

ZIFA, which reportedly got $500 000 from FIFA and $300 000 from CAF as COVID-19 relief funds has reportedly reviewed downwards the funds it had previously allocated to PSL, which saw the latter receiving less than half the money it was previously allocated by ZIFA, The Herald reports.
According to the publication, ZIFA slashed PSL’s allocation by a $76 000. Speaking on the issue, ZIFA spokesperson, Xolisani Gwesela said the decision to review PSL’s allocation came after wide consultations with other affiliates:
<blockquote>It was after consultations with other affiliates and that is what was recommended. It’s certainly not a counter reaction to whatsoever, these are recommendations of affiliates, through stakeholder consultations, for equitable distribution of Covid-19 relief funds.
PSL are not the only affiliate saddled with administration expenses. ZIFA and its affiliates reserve the right to apportion the funds in the way they see fit instead of being micromanaged into explaining every detail. The figures we have released are final.</blockquote>
ZIFA reportedly decided to increase lower leagues clubs in Division 3 and 4’s allocation which might have been one of the reasons for slashing PSL’s allocation.
