Mahere Puzzled By Masarira's Attack On Malema Over Castigation Of Human Rights Abuses In Zimbabwe

MDC Alliance’s national spokesperson, advocate Fadzayi Mahere has expressed great shock after opposition leader Linda Masarira of Labour Economists Afrikan Democrats had reprimanded Julius Malema over his remarks on Zimbabwe.

Malema who leads South African opposition party – Economic Freedom Fighters had suggested that the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa should be closed over human rights abuses in Zimbabwe. In response to Malema’s remarks, Masarira said all lives matter. Below is her Twitter thread:

Dear @Julius_S_Malema • Zimbabwe is a sovereign nation and not an extension of South Africa. • Zimbabweans are more than able to champion their own progress. • If you are serious about Zimbabwean lives, start by organizing protests against Xenophobia.

I haven’t heard you speakout about Zimbabweans who are being left to die in South Africa from #COVID19. I expect you to lead a campaign for the issuing of work permits to Millions of Zimbabweans working in South Africa.

Political ambition is good but one should not seek political mileage over anothers misfortune. Stop using Zimbabwe as your campaign card. Sort out RSA issues instead of meddling in our affairs. SA has worse inequalities, violence etc to address, yet you want to play prefect.
As Zimbabweans we will engage each other &resolve our issues as one family Indeed #ZimbabweanLivesMatter #SouthAfricansLivesMatter too Stop Xenophobia on Zimbabweans in SA, it’s inhuman &uncalled for We wont allow grandstanding Let us all endeavour to fix our home ground first

Mahere came in defence of Malema saying:

Buy Samsung, itel, Redmi smartphones in Zimbabwe

I can’t for the life of me understand why you would attack @Julius_S_Malema for calling upon the State to uphold human rights & respect the dignity of its citizens. Are you familiar with the Zim Constitution, the African Charter on Human & People’s Rights or the SADC Treaty?🇿🇼

The African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights is an international human rights instrument that is intended to promote and protect human rights and basic freedoms on the African continent.

The charter also states that in some instances, other states can intervene when there are human rights violations.
