Six ZANU PF Members Perish In Lorry Accident

Six ZANU PF members died on Saturday evening and 17 others were seriously when a truck they were travelling on was involved in an accident in Buhera.

The lorry reportedly collided head-on with another vehicle in the Mugombe area of Buhera.

According to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information, Public and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Mangwana, three of the deceased died on the spot and the other three died at Murambinda Hospital. Tweeted Mangwana:

A Lorry carrying ZANU PF supporters was involved in an accident along the Murambinda-Birchnough Bridge road.

Three people died on the spot whilst the other three died at Murambinda Hospital making six deaths.

The other 17 have serious injuries and are in hospital.

ZANU PF held primary elections in Manicaland and other seven provinces on Saturday and party members who were involved in the accident were presumably returning from voting.

According to Geography Point, ten common causes of car accidents in Zimbabwe are:

  • Distracted driving – this includes texting, talking on the phone, eating, or interacting with passengers while driving.
  • Reckless driving – this includes speeding, tailgating, weaving in and out of lanes, or ignoring traffic signals.
  • Drunk driving – driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Poor road conditions
  • Inclement weather
  • Vehicle defects
  • Inexperience
  • Poor visibility
  • Road rage
  • Fatigue – which may result from long hours on the road, lack of sleep, or other factors.
