George Joe is a Zimbabwean born musician based in Australia.
Background
Career
Joe went to Australia in 1998 bringing with him a variety of music flavours ranging from kwassa kwassa, sungura, soca mbira music among others.[1] He formed a group known as "African Music Congress" which did very and went on to win the "Best World Music Act" in the Western Australian Music Industry Awards, he went on to win the award three more times. In 2002, he went on to establish another group called Shangara Jive and since then the group has shared the stage with superstars such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo and Malaika of South Africa. They released their first album in 2012. The group Shanagra Jive consists of
- Seven-piece band consisting of keyboards, mbira (thumb piano), guitar, bass, drum kit and a full African percussion set up
- Acoustic traditional or contemporary
- 5 Piece Roving Percussion Ensemble
- 4 Piece Acoustic Outfit
- 3-4 Piece Mbira Ensemble
