"We Now Have The Capacity To Test 2000 Cases Per Day," - Health Minister
Zimbabwe’s Health Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo on Wednesday claimed that the country now has the capacity to test 2000 coronavirus cases.
Moyo said that the equipment needed to embark on a nationwide and thorough screening and testing campaign was in place.
The country has however already missed its target of 40 000 tests by end of April. As of the 29th of April 2020, Zimbabwe had conducted a paltry 7642 cases when only a few hours are left before April comes to an end.
Zimbabwe recently received equipment from a number of donors including Sakunda Holdings, Jack Ma a Chinese businessman and politician, and other anonymous donors to enhance the fight against the deadly coronavirus.
Resultantly, authorities have been turning other institutions including schools and churches into COVID-19 centres.
Authorities have been under fire for lack of preparedness and for the testing of “as few people as possible” to date, for the country to “record as few cases as possible.”
