Muzi Mangena is one half of the duo Calvin and Muzi that produced the hit single Tombofara in 1998. He is now based in the United Kingdom in London.
Background
He grew up in Bulawayo and is childhood friends with fellow group member Calvin Gudu.[1] They attended the same church in Bulawayo.[2]
Career
Before recording the song Tombofara with Calvin, Muzi was contracted to a Copenhagen based company and was touring Denmark.[3] Their hit song Tombofara was not planned and according to Calvin,
"We never planned to write it or record it, never mind for it to be the success that it was."[1]
This is because the song was written and produced in one day when Muzi passed by Calvin's UK studio.[1] Muzi took a break from music after a contractual stint with the Copenhagen-based DanZim Company but was rumoured to be working with Calvin in the studio.[4]
Trivia
- He stayed with the late Fortune Muparutsa at his London flat for 2 months after Fortune's radical chemotherapy.[5]
