The former Counsellor Embassy of Zimbabwe in Sweden and Consul-General to Johannesburg South Africa, Melody Chaurura, is Zimbabwe’s Ambassador-Designate to Namibia.
An Ambassador-Designate is an official who has been named to be an ambassador, but who has not yet taken his oath of office.
Chaurura paid a courtesy call on President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare this Monday before leaving the country to assume her duties in Namibia.
Addressing journalists on her mission, Chaurura said she will strive to deepen bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Namibia. <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/03/20/zimbabwe-namibia-relations-at-stake-as-new-diplomat-takes-charge/">ZBC News</a> quoted her as saying:
<blockquote>
I feel very much honoured to be given this honour to serve as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Namibia.
I look forward to broadening and deepening existing bilateral relations between the two countries, both from a diplomatic perspective and broadening economic cooperation.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe and Namibia enjoy cordial relations and are both members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Chaurura as the country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Namibia on 06 March 2023.
A general notice published in the Government Gazette at the time read:

It is hereby notified that His Excellency the President has, in terms of section 110 (2)(i) as read with section 204 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, appointed Mrs Melody Chaurura as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Namibia.

Zim's Ambassador-Designate To Namibia Pays Courtesy Call On Mnangagwa

Zimbabwe Consul General Melody Chaurura confirmed Monday that the number of Zimbabweans who died from attacks on immigrants last month in Chavani village outside Elim in Limpopo has risen to four.
This is after Zimbabwean national Tops Mutanho succumbed to his injuries on 26 September. <a href="https://www.groundup.org.za/article/a-fourth-zimbabwean-dies-after-attacks-in-elim-last-month/">GroundUp</a> cites Chauriura as saying:
<blockquote>
Mutanho, a male Zimbabwe national from Chivi area village, succumbed to injuries sustained from mob justice after he was said to have been found in possession of stolen copper cables.
</blockquote>
Two of the other victims who were at first said by police to have been burnt beyond recognition have now been identified as Johan Munago and Amon Munago, both from Chivi in Masvingo. 
The third victim is yet to be identified. 
More than 200 people fled into the bush after the attacks on 18 September.
Chaurura said the victims had not yet been repatriated because of pending forensic investigations.
Dockets relating to the cases were opened at Waterval Police Station but no one has been arrested.
Thomas Shonhai, a relative of the Munago brothers, told Groundup that he had been told by the community that they had been found in possession of stolen solar panels and cables. 
The angry community beat them until the two led the community to the person who sold them the solar panels. The accused denied stealing the solar panels. During the mix of things the accused managed to escape, leaving the Munagos in trouble.
Shonhai says he cannot afford to repatriate his relatives.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwean consulate says it has offered repatriation to families affected by the violence but has no budget for repatriation of the dead.

South Africa: 4th Zimbabwean Dies After Attacks On Foreign Nationals

Zimbabweans living in South Africa under the Zimbabwean Special Dispensation Permits (ZSDP) have been urged to be patient as there are engagements between the governments of the two countries regarding their status.
South Africa has not said a word about the renewal of the permits which are set to expire in December but Zimbabwe’s Consul-General to Johannesburg Melody Chaurura has sought to allay restless Zimbabweans’anxiety. Said Chaurura:
<blockquote>
As you might be aware, the government of South Africa granted the Zimbabwean special permits in 2010.
These special permits have been renewed since then. We are fully aware that there is anxiety among permit holders as the special dispensation permits are due to expire at the end of December.
Regrettably, we are not in a position at this point to state or predict the direction that will be taken by the South African government on this matter.
We can, however, confirm that consultations on the issue have been underway among the relevant stakeholders in SA and the issue has since been submitted to Cabinet for decision.
In this regard, we continue to wait for pronouncements by the government’s competent authorities on the future of these permits.
In the meantime, we encourage the permit holders of these permits to exercise patience and to be watchful for scams.

Chaurura made the remarks on Thursday while representing the Zimbabwean ambassador to South Africa David Hamadziripi during the Southern African Liaison Office (SALO) virtual discussion on the ZSDP, which expires on December 31.
The meeting also deliberated on the diaspora vote in the 2023 general election as well as vaccines for Zimbabwean migrants in South Africa.
In 2010, about 295 000 Zimbabweans applied for the permits and 245 000 successfully got the documents
An estimated three million Zimbabweans are believed to be resident in South Africa.

Anxiety As Zimbabweans' SA Permits Expire In December

Following numerous complaints about the high rejection of Passport applications, the Zimbabwean embassy in Pretoria has decided to streamline the passport application process to ensure that travelers have access to passports. The Sunday News reports.
This was revealed by the Consul General to Johannesburg, Mrs Melody Chaurura who addressed the issue of passport photos being rejected:
<blockquote>It has come to our attention that photos are being rejected for failure to meet minimum standards and we have received many complaints about this issue
We do not have preferred photographers, neither are we an affiliate of any photographer (s) and we have no interest in dictating where the photographs should be obtained.
As a way of ensuring transparency and accountability in judgments relating to passport photos, we have introduced a passport Photo Rejection Clearance Form. This will help review each decision before finalization.
Those with queries regarding the passport application process should continue contacting us via our online platforms and they should attach their signed rejection forms</blockquote>
According to the publication, for passport photos to be accepted they must have the following qualities:
<blockquote>The standard size of the (two) passport photography which is 3, 5 by 4, 5 cm, must be in colour, taken within a six months period, identical, white background, head straight, no shadows, eyes, and ears clearly visible, and printed on smooth quality non-glossy paper.
With regards to infants, in addition to the above, no headgear is allowed and the child’s eyes and ears must be clearly visible.</blockquote>

<blockquote>PASSPORT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: CLARIFICATION ON PASSPORT PHOTO SPECIFICATIONS
It has come to the attention of the Consul General that most passport photos which are being submitted by our valued clients for passport application purposes are being rejected for failure to meet the minimum standards for a passport application photo.
The Consul General has also received numerous complaints from clients, voicing their strong suspicion that their photos were being rejected because they were not obtained from the Consulate’s “preferred source”.
The Office of the Consul General hereby provides the following clarification:
<ol>
<li>The Consulate does not have a preferred/chosen photographer. As such, clients are free to decide on where to 
obtain their passport photographs.</li>
<li>The Consulate is not affiliated/connected to any photographer(s) within and without the South Africa borders. Consequently, the institution has no interest in dictating where passport photographs should be obtained.</li>
</ol>
As a way of ensuring transparency and accountability in judgements relating to the suitability of passports photos, the Consulate has introduced a “Passport Photo Rejection Clearance Form aimed at allowing a review of each decision before finalisation
<ul>
<li>Neutral facial expression with the mouth must shut. (Smiling, frowning or raised eyebrows not acceptable).</li>
<li>The photos must be printed on high quality, smooth paper and non-glossy paper.</li>
</ul>
FOR INFANTS 
In addition to the above specifications,
<ul>
<li>The child’s eyes and ears must be clearly visible. Do not photograph infants and new-borns when they are asleep:</li>
<li>The child must be alone in his/her passport photo;</li>
<li>Headwear is not allowed;</li>
</ul>
Clients are welcome to loge their complaints via a dedicated email: photoqueries@zimbabweconsulate.co.za in cases where they are convinced that the passport photo rejection process has been biased. 
Clients should remember to have the rejected photo signed at the back as substantiating evidence.

FULL TEXT: Zim-Joburg Consul General Speaks On Passport Photos

3 300 Zimbabweans living in South Africa heeded to the call to register at the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa if they were in need of food assistance, Sunday News reports. This was revealed by the Zimbabwean Consul General in Johannesburg Melody Chaurura who said for the time the flighted the advert they had had responses from 3 300 people.
According to Sunday News:
<blockquote>The embassy had put out a call for Zimbabweans in SA in need of food assistance because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic to apply for help by 19 July.
The assistance would come in the form of a once-off voucher from the International Organisation for Migration, which had asked the embassy to submit a list of Zimbabweans for inclusion.
Chaurura said about 3 300 Zimbabweans had successfully registered for food assistance. Priority would be given to expecting mothers, unemployed youth and women-headed households.</blockquote>
Some Zimbos who missed the deadline were reportedly asking for an extension of the deadline so that they too could apply for food aid, Chaurura said they could not extend the deadline because they were already processing the requests they received before the deadline passed.
