Over 4000 tourists on Christmas day chose to spend part of their day at the country’s culture, heritage monument in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo">Masvingo</a>, the Chronicle reports.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Great_Zimbabwe">Great Zimbabwe</a> employees say on the day, by the opening time they were throngs of people already waiting to see the ruins.
Great Zimbabwe’s Lovemore Mandima was surprised by the turnup despite the economic situation in the country, he spoke to the publication and said:
<blockquote>It is surprising that our numbers are high given the obtaining economic challenges. We had to attend to all visitors that included some with special challenges.
We cater for everyone here and that include people with disabilities who cannot climb the mountains but normally visit our African village and the conical tower at the Great Enclosure</blockquote>

Great Zimbabwe Receives 4000+ Tourists On Christmas Day

A total of 94 Accidents occurred this festive season killing a total of 24 people as compared to last year’s 131 accidents the Chronicle reports.
This was revealed by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police">ZRP</a>‘s Assistant Commissioner <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Nyathi">Paul Nyathi</a> who was giving an update on the police duties during the Christmas break.
The Assistant Commissioner said:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Republic Police informs the nation that a total of 94 road traffic accidents were recorded on Christmas Day. Three people were killed while 35 others were injured
The major causes of accidents were speeding, reversing errors and inattention. A total of 138 touts were arrested, 165 motor vehicles were impounded for various offences and 797 tickets were issued.</blockquote>
ZRP said they will remain on high alert for the rest of the holiday.

Holiday Accidents Death Toll Now At 24

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kadoma">Kadoma</a> residents had a dry Christmas as their city had no water during the Christmas break according to the Zimbabwe Independent on Twitter.
Residents had to find alternative water sources to use on Christmas day as shown in the video below.

Zimbabweans across cities took their time to speak to Newsday and spoke about how they are faring before and during Christmas.
According to the Publication after speaking to Harare and Bulawayo residents, they learnt that people were gathered outside banks in search of cash towards closing times, shopping in a hyperinflation economy was also proving to be difficult as some people went on holiday without their salaries. Motorists were still queueing for fuel on Christmas eve.
People that spoke to the publication said:
<blockquote>We cannot say there is a festive season this Christmas because I cannot afford to buy anything. I am even struggling to buy basic commodities. Prices have been rising drastically and my salary is not tallying with the prices. I also have to be preparing and saving for school fees for my children, therefore, I am only buying few things and focusing on 2020 basic needs.
Hatina chatinacho (we have nothing). Things are not adding up. I’m only a vendor and there is no profit,
Compared to last year, this year’s sales are low. Last year around the same time, we could not be entertaining anyone because this place would be packed with last-minute customers. Business is generally low and we are not expecting to make much profit. After today, we are not looking forward to making any profit.</blockquote>

What A Christmas - Zimbabweans Lament

ZANU PF legislator for Gokwe-Nembudziya, Justice Mayor Wadyajena has said the ruling party was not responsible for putting food on citizens’ table.
He added that despite the state of the economy, individuals had a responsibility to fend for their families.
He described as foolishness, the claim that the ruling party ruined this year’s Christmas saying the state of the economy was no justification for a dull holiday. He posted on Twitter saying:
<blockquote>It’s folly to claim <a class="link-complex" data-user-name="ZANUPF_Official" href="https://twitter.com/ZANUPF_Official/" rel="noopener user noreferrer" target="_blank">@ZANUPF_Official</a> stole your Christmas! Things are tough but it’s still your responsibility to put food on the table. Let’s pull up our socks &amp; do something for ourselves &amp; country instead of accusing every successful person of being crooked. Merry Christmas.</blockquote>
His remarks come after some Zimbabweans have blamed ZANU PF for the hardship they have first this year adding that they will not have enjoyable holidays.
Zimbabwe has a myriad of challenges including inflation, water, electricity, cash, and food shortages which some claim are being caused by the ruling ZANU PF’s bad governance.
As a result of the hardships, thousands of Zimbabweans have crossed the country’s borders to seek greener pastures abroad and they are scattered around the world.

Zimbabwe is experiencing a huge power shortage attributed to dwindling water levels at Kariba Dam and ageing equipment at Hwange Power Station.

The ruling ZANU PF has said that it wishes every Zimbabwean happy, peaceful and safe holidays. The remarks were made on Tuesday by ZANU PF spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo who said:
<blockquote>We wish all the people a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, and I am saying all Zimbabweans. This is not about Zanu PF, but the nation. Let it be a central message to everybody that we say to all, have a merry Christmas.</blockquote>
He urged motorists to be safe on the roads saying they should not consume alcohol and then attempt driving.
Moyo’s remarks were regarded as insincere by the leader of opposition Transform Zimbabwe, Jacob Ngarivhume who claimed that Zimbabweans are not going to have enjoyable holidays due to ZANU PF induced poverty. He said:
<blockquote>The traditional jostling and bustling festive atmosphere has been stolen from most Zimbabweans. Many have failed to travel to see relatives and friends during this Christmas period due to a myriad of reasons such as lack of fuel, lack of money to spare and lack of cash at the banks.</blockquote>
Zimbabwe is having a socioeconomic crisis characterised by a huge scarcity in fuel, electricity, food foreign currency and cash.
