<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nkosana_Moyo">Nkosana Moyo</a>‘s party, APA Zimbabwe has issued a statement saying it is not in any conversations to form alliances with any political parties.
Said the party in a tweet:
<blockquote>
For the record, APA is not in any formal or informal conversation with any political party on the subject of elections, possible alliances or strategy. We are focused on our political agenda, based on our core values.
</blockquote>
The tweet follows weeks of calls for a broad coalition of the opposition in Zimbabwe ahead of the 2023 elections. The calls have especially been for the MDC Alliance to work with Nkosana Moyo and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Noah_Manyika">Noah Manyika</a> to create a stronger force against Zanu-PF.
MDC Alliance has also been called on to accept a broader array of people including visible but unaffiliated activists and even former Zanu-PF members such as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Jonathan_Moyo">Jonathan Moyo</a>.
Commenting recently on the coalition calls, prominent activist and veteran MDC Alliance member, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/09/12/veteran-mdc-member-freeman-chari-speaks-on-fresh-opposition-coalition-calls/">Freeman Chari said</a>:

If all they want is an electoral pact, then now is not the time. An assessment will be made as to whom has what. Everything has to be data driven. Which constituency will Nkosana or Manyika win that MDC cannot win? There is no data that support an election pact at parl level
</blockquote>
According to the official results of the July 2018 presidential elections, Nkosana Moyo, the presidential candidate of APA, got 15,172 votes, while Noah Manyika got 2,681 votes. Nelson Chamisa got over 2 million votes.

We Are Not Trying To Form A Coalition With Anyone - Nkosana Moyo

US Based veteran MDC member, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman_Chari">Freeman Chari</a> posted a Twitter thread on the calls for an opposition parties coalition ahead of the 2023 elections. There have been calls for a broader coalition led by the MDC Alliance which will include political activists, other political parties such as Nkosana Moyo, Noah Manyika, and even ousted former members of Zanu-PF belonging to the G40 group.

1. MDC is and has always been a coalition. We had workers (ZCTU), Farmers (ZFU), students (ZINASU), NCA, churches etc.Despite our backgrounds we operated as one entity with a single identity. It was not just a loose pact for elections but an operational &amp; institutional coalition
2. The current voices lack clarity, are they pushing for an institutional &amp; operational coalition or for a loose electoral pact? There is already an institution with multiple entities that have left their previous identities to be in MDC-Alliance. What’s so special now?

4.MDC has no problem winning elections. It has won in 2002, 2008 and 2018. The problem lies in transition. This is why in 2008 I took great heat in the movement because I was one of the few pple who pushed for an electoral pact with Simba Makoni whom we believe had securocrats
5. Any pacts that are made today should be to strengthen MDC-Alliance structural so that it fields candidates that win. If Noah or Nkosana were short of pple but had infrastructural strength, they wld do what Bloomberg did when he lost nomination, his Digital Army shored Biden
6. The problem is that there is no evidence that two guys have infrastructural juggernauts that can move the needle &amp; justify a structural pact today. The most important pact is one that either guarantees military neutrality or one that brings a counter-balance in military power.
7. To those who are on the fence, it is OK to remain on the fence. The institution cannot change to fit what you want when you are not invested in it. If you want to change the institution, join a branch closest to you. Look at the challenges in the branch, help solve them…
8. The more you play a part the easier it becomes for you to navigate the impediments. You will be amazed at how fast things tried at branch level quickly escalate up the hierarchy and laterally translate to other branches. You can’t change an institution that you are not part of
9. For those that are members already, there are many things that we can do. 1. Volunteer to work in your branch 2. Volunteer to canvass for voters 3. Volunteer to be an election agent 4. If you have time and skill, reach out to the secretary relevant to you and offer to help
10. To the leadership from branch to national: show leadership! Supporters need to know you are visible &amp; present to work for and with them. 1. Acknowledge your weakness and accept help 2. The team is always more important than individuals 3. Communicate 4. Listen 5. Follow thru
11. Let’s build a stronger &amp; more inclusive MDC-Alliance. If you don’t like MDC-A, join any party other than ZANU &amp; its surrogates. You can’t afford to be apathetic. A strong APA, BUILD and MDC-Alliance will be good for a 2023 coalition. For now let’s build our parties.

Veteran MDC Member Freeman Chari Speaks On Opposition Coalition Calls

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has ruled out working with President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF in a coalition government saying that his supporters are against it. Speaking to Peter Ndoro on Sabc News, Chamisa said,

We must be able to protect the vote, otherwise, we will not be able to convince anyone to go to elections five years down the line. Our people have said ‘Mr Chamisa, don’t work with these people’. They are saying don’t join hands with the Crocodile (Mnangagwa’s moniker), you will be drowned’ like what happened to president Tsvangirai when he worked with (former President) Robert Mugabe, he was diluted, we were diluted, we ended up losing focus and manipulated out of power…Far from my fate being sealed. In any event, it’s not about Chamisa, it’s about the people of Zimbabwe, they voted for a particular choice, but they were cheated. They were deceived, but that deception is not going to last forever. We have the authority. This country belongs to the people.</blockquote>

Chamisa Rules Out Working With Zanu-PF

Former Vice President is set to launch her own coalition in which she has been nominated as the presidential candidate for the 2018 Elections. The new coalition is called the People’s Rainbow Coalition and will be launched later on today.   According to Mujuru, the People’s Rainbow Coalition comprises of Mujuru’s own National People’s Party, Tendai Biti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Zimbabwe Union of Democrats (ZUNDE). This will be the third major opposition coalition after MDC Alliance and Coalition of Democrats (CODE).
Mujuru refused to join CODE after Dumiso Dabengwa and other senior leaders of CODE ignored her demands that she should be declared the  leader of the coalition.  She was reported to have wanted to lead the MDC Alliance as well.

Updated:Mujuru To Launch Her Own Coalition Today-  People's Rainbow Coalition

Joice Mujuru, Dumiso Dabengwa and Tendai Biti have formed a coalition that will challenge Zanu-PF in Matebeleland in 2018. This has raised fears that the MDC Alliance which Biti is a signatory to has split.
Zapu, National People’s Party (NPP) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said they will not contest each other for any parliamentary seats in Matabeleland and urged other political parties to join for a broader coalition. PDP secretary general, Gorden Moyo told NewsDay that the three political parties are finalising terms of working together.

Biti, Mujuru & Dabengwa form own coalition, raises fears of MDC Alliance spilt

MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai has said that a coalition is needed to remove President Mugabe from power in next year’s harmonised elections. Tsvangirai was defending his decision to reunite with Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti. Speaking on Saturday, Tsvangirai said:
<blockquote>Some may ask: A coalition, what for? Those from MDC-T may say we out-number everyone.
Let me tell you, you are not too many as long as you are not able to change the presidency. A coalition helps to stop fragmentation, to stop Mugabe from rigging.
Some may also say I have lost a seat and so on. Your seat is not going to translate into a transformation that we are looking for. How do people benefit because you are now a member of parliament? How do people benefit because you are in council?
Let us move away from this position-oriented culture and focus to the objective of delivering the people of Zimbabwe.</blockquote>

A coalition is essential to stop fragmentation, and to stop Mugabe from rigging: Tsvangirai

The mooted coalition between Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T and Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party is reported to have collapsed over a lack of trust as well as a disagreement on the allocation of seats for next year’s harmonised elections. The MDC-T is reported to have written to Mujuru informing her of this.
A source from the MDC who spoke to NesDay said:
<blockquote>The possibility of a coalition between Tsvangirai and Mujuru is dead in the water.
Mujuru wants an equal share of seats even in urban settlements, which are our traditional strongholds.
But we think what she is supposed to bring to the table is the rural vote.
If indeed she walked away from Zanu PF with some sort of support, then she needs to bring with her at the very least the Mashonaland provinces (East, West and Central).</blockquote>

Coalition between Mujuru and Tsvangirai collapses over allocation of seats

Addressing MDC-T supporters on Sunday in Kuwadzana, MDC-T secretary general, Douglas Mwonzora said if the coalition does not materialise, they will go it alone in next year’s elections. He also revealed that there were differences with one of the leaders who signed an MoU with Tsvangirai backbiting.
Said Mwonzora
<blockquote>When we talk about unity, we want genuine unity. There are some who were backbiting just to spoil the unity of the people of Zimbabwe. (MDC-T leader) Morgan Tsvangirai wants unity of all people in Zimbabwe and he has a place for every person, but there are those who don’t want and Tsvangirai is saying ‘if you don’t want, I can go it alone’. That is if they (other opposition parties) don’t want, but we are saying we want people to unite.</blockquote>

MDC-T ready to go it alone in 2018 election if coalition does not materialise

The leader of the opposition MDC-T, Morgan Tsvangirai, has said that the proposed coalition of opposition parties should be done by 31 July, so that the parties have adequate time to work on strategy. Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) with Transform Zimbabwe on Wednesday, Tsvangirai said:
<blockquote>We are targeting the end of July to end these bilateral discussions and we are open to anyone who wants to discuss with us.
Once this is agreed, then we will have an alliance agreement and we will be able to have a strategy for elections because I think time is running out and we need to sit down and see how we can tackle the question of elections.
All coalition discussions should end by the end of this month and that the party should now engage in organisational work, which is preparing for elections, continue with networking (and) building networks.</blockquote>

Video: Mujuru says she can lead coalition because she is acceptable to war veterans, soldiers, farmers

Former Vice President and leader of the opposition National People’s Party (NPP) Joice Mujuru proposed that the parties in the coalition should have primary elections to select one candidate to square off against President Robert Mugabe in next year’s harmonised elections.  However, political analysts have dismissed the proposal saying that it was not going to work.
Political analyst, Llyod Sachikonye said:
<blockquote>It looks too complicated. I understand they may want to be seen to satisfy two levels of democracy which are internal democracy and competition but I think this is too complicated.
One possible approach is to decide and agree where a particular party is stronger and then field one candidate.</blockquote>
Political analyst Rejoice Ngwenya added
<blockquote>She doesn’t understand how coalitions work. Primaries destroy confidence in individuals who have capacity but with no grassroots influence. I prefer meritocracy to populism.</blockquote>
While  Eldred Masunungure, said:
<blockquote>That will not be sustainable and it will be the death of that coalition. What she said is clearly not in the spirit of a coalition. It appears as if the negotiations that lie ahead have failed and it might be read by critics in her party and other coalition partners as a statement that they have abandoned the coalition talks.</blockquote>

Mujuru says lets have elections to choose coalition leader, anaylsts say it won't work

Former Minister of Finance Tendai Biti has said that only a strong coalition of opposition parties will be able to remove President Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party from power. Biti emphasized that the coalition should be based on issues and not personalities, warning that “superstar” personalities were not welcome.
Speaking at a Coalition of Democrats (CODE) event held in Harare, Biti said:
<blockquote>It is important that we coalesce around key transformational objectives not personalities. That way we create sustainable change for all.
Best teams are not made of superstars, they are made of people with different qualities who humble themselves and rely on the other one’s strength. If you deem yourself a superstar in Code you are probably in [sic] the wrong platform.
We make a statement of hope that there is another Zimbabwe which is possible if people come together, it is an attempt to create a new narrative.</blockquote>
So far the MDC-T has refused to join CODE, and Biti’s words seem to have been directed at Morgan Tsvangirai.

Biti says Coalition to remove Zanu-PF should be about issues and not personalities

Social movements are reportedly in talks to form a coalition that will join forces with opposition parties already in talks aimed at fielding one candidate to challenge President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF in next year’s presidential election.
Several social movements among them ThisFlag Movement, Tajamuka/Sesijikile Campaign, Zimbabwe Yadzoka, Mayibuye iZimbabwe, Buya, #ThisGown, #TheZimbabweWeWant and many others, have reportedly already agreed on a working framework for the proposed coalition. However, Tajamuka/Sesijikile spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi denied that there was a coalition and said that they were releasing a press statement on the state of the country.
A source who spoke to NewsDay said that the mostly young people who are in the social movements are tired of the same politicians and will either push for a lot of participatory space in the elections or even field their own candidate.

Social movements to form coalition with opposition parties ahead of 2018 election

MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been accused of signing the two Memoranda of Understanding with Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party and Welshman Ncube’s MDC, despite the proposal for a coalition having been rejected by sections of his party. According to the Herald, nine out of the party’s fifteen provinces rejected the proposal during Tsvangirai’s tour of provinces.
MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe reportedly boycotted last week’s signing of the two MoUs as she is against the coalition. However, MDC-T secretary general Douglas Mwonzora and spokesperson Obert Gutu refuted the allegations, 
Said Mwonzora:
<blockquote>It is incorrect and misrepresentation of facts to say there are provinces that are opposed to the coalition.
Provinces in actual fact endorsed the proposed alliance or coalition…
It must be remembered that the issue of an alliance is actually a resolution of the 2014 MDC congress. So the president is acting within his mandate to sign the MoUs.</blockquote>
Gutu added:
<blockquote>I couldn’t attend the signing ceremony of the MoU between president Morgan Tsvangirai and Professor Welshman Ncube because I had prior appointment with my doctor at the same time that the MoU was being signed</blockquote>

Tsvangirai accused of signing MOUs despite opposition from within

The spokesperson for Joice Mujuru’s National People’s Party, Jealousy Mawarire has launched an attack on Didymus Mutasa saying that he cannot appoint the leader of the opposition coalition. This follows Mutasa’s speech at the Nera Demonstration where he appeared to endorse Morgan Tsvangirai. He accused Mutasa of being involved in atrocities when he was still in Zanu PF.
Speaking to New Zimbabwe, Mawarire Said:
<blockquote>Some elements within the opposition are beginning to believe that people like Mutasa who was involved in quite a lot of atrocities like politically motivated rape, killings of youngsters even 12 year olds all in the name of political competition are now masquerading as democrats with power to appoint a coalition leader or disappoint a coalition leader.
If you see such things happening, you begin to wonder if Satan is now an usher into heaven. But if you believe that Satan is taking you into heaven then you should be sure, you are on your way to hell.</blockquote>

Mawarire says voters should not take Didymus Mutasa seriously as he is masquerading as a democrat

Jacob Ngarivhume, the President of Transform Zimbabwe has warned opposition parties that any coalition which does not include the MDC-T is doomed to fail. He also urged other parties to respect the history of the MDC-T and the role it has played in fighting for democracy.
Speaking in Harare on Monday Ngarivhume said:
<blockquote>We believe absolutely that a coalition that would not include and involve a political party like the MDC-T may not easily reach its objectives. So, we feel that if we should all unite as opposition political parties including the MDC-T, who are a very important partner in the political processes of this country.
MDC-T is one of the partners we have been identified with. We also need to appreciate that they have been one of the main political parties and they have won an election before in 2008 and now we understand by 74% from what is coming out</blockquote>

Coalition without MDC-T is doomed to fail says Transform Zimbabwe leader

In an interview with Tazzen Mandizvidza on state-controlled television channel, Zbc Tv, President Robert Mugabe dismissed the mooted grand coalition of opposition parties as a huge of zeros and said that his party was not going to lose any sleep over that matter. Speaking just before his 93rd birthday, Mugabe equated the opposition parties to zeroes and said that no matter how many of them joined forces, the grand total would still be zero.
Said,Mugabe:
<blockquote>My teacher said when we were in Grade 1 that if you add two zeros, the answer is not two, it remains zero,
If you increase them to 10, they just amount to a huge pile of zeros; nothing. So we are not afraid.</blockquote>
Mugabe also denied infiltrating the opposition resulting in opposition parties splitting up and some politicians being expelled from the parties. The president said that the opposition was total to blame for this as it was disorganized and had no clear principles.
Mugabe said:
<blockquote>We haven’t done any such thing; its failures on their part only and quarrels within them.
They are not as well organised as ourselves, as our party, no definite principles guiding them</blockquote>
