Prominent MDC Alliance activist Makomborero Haruzivishe spent another night in prison despite being granted bail on Friday by the High Court.
In a tweet on Friday night, the MDC Alliance Harare Province said Haruzivishe was supposed to be released from prison that day but remained in detention. <a href="https://twitter.com/MdcHarare/status/1479562956652396545">It said:</a>

The regime has refused to release Mako from prison. After being granted bail by the High Court Makomborero Haruzivishe was supposed to be released from prison today. But he remains behind bars. We will continue to demand his freedom.
</blockquote>
Haruzivishe was granted bail by the High Court on the last of his three pending criminal cases.
The 29-year-old was released on ZWL$20 000 bail by Justices Rodgers Manyangadze and Joseph Chilimbe sitting on appeal.
He was also ordered to reside at his given address in Mt Pleasant and report twice weekly to the police.
Haruzivishe faces kidnapping charges with an alternative charge of participating in a gathering with the intent to promote public violence.
He was arrested on allegations that he chain-locked employees of Impala Car Rental inside their shop in central Harare while protesting the arrest of the then Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) president Takudzwa Ngadziore.
Ngadziore had been kidnapped and beaten days earlier by suspected state security agents outside another Impala facility in Harare.
The students were protesting the abduction of Midlands State University (MSU) student Tawanda Muchehiwa, who was found three days later seriously injured following torture by suspected State agents.

Mr Thompson Dondo, the Impala Car Rental CEO, last week donated $500 000 to Mr Nhamo Magwizi whose house was destroyed during the infamous Budiriro house demolitions a few weeks ago, The Herald reports.
This was after the story of Mr Magwizi speaking from his wheelchair decrying the plight that had been thrust upon him after the city fathers destroyed their homes went viral on social media. In the video Mugwisa said:
<blockquote>My life is now upside down. I don’t even know what to do. I am thinking of building one room and a toilet, but you never know, maybe they will come back again to destroy our houses. I am hoping if we can’t stay here, authorities will find somewhere to put us. Our situation is terrible.</blockquote>
The video caught the attention of Mr. Dondo who donated $500 000 to Magwizi, Speaking about the donation Dondo said:
<blockquote>I saw your story on social media and I was touched. It’s raining and you are a disabled man with a family. My heart sank and I said I have to do something for you in the immediate. I will transfer 500 000 into your account tomorrow.</blockquote>
Thanking Mr. Dondo for his donation Magwizi said they stopped paying for the land when they discovered something was amiss in 2013:
<blockquote>When the demolitions took place, I was not around. I received a phone call from some of my neighbours and relatives.
I was fortunate that these neighbours and relatives managed to remove my property from the house before it was demolished. After the demolitions, they also managed to save some of my bricks.
I really thought I had sorted issues to do with accommodation. At first we paid US$300 then monthly subscriptions of US$22.
We stopped paying subscriptions in 2013 when we discovered that something was wrong. I want to thank you Mr Dondo and Impala Car Rental for this assistance. God bless you.</blockquote>
The Budiriro House demolitions were highly criticized by CSOs, churches, and political parties alike. Impala Car Rental CEO Donates $500k To Disabled Budiriro House Demolitions Victim

A <a href="https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/local-news/police-hunt-tees-court-fugitives-3723680" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gazette.co.uk article of 21 January 2009</a>, updated on 14 May 2013 suggests that <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Impala_Car_Rental">Impala Car Rental</a> Director <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Thompson_Dondo">Thompson Kanganwirai Dondo</a> could be a wanted man in the United Kingdom.
The publication does not specify the crime which Dondo and his co-accused, Sharon McCartney, Stuart Smith, and John Alan Wilkinson, committed but political analyst <a href="https://twitter.com/MJairosi/status/1334113189257207809" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Majaira Jairosi claims</a> they were up for human trafficking.
The publication claims Kanganwirai Dondo, 36 then, failed to attend Teesside Crown Court on November 19, 2007. It further reports:
<blockquote>His (Dondo) last known address was in the Ingleby Barwick area.
Sharon McCartney, 44. She failed to attend Teesside Magistrates Court on May 23, 2007. Her last known address was in Stockton but she is also believed to have connections in the Darlington area.
Stuart Smith, 28. He had a warrant issued against him by Guisborough Magistrates Court on August 23, 2007. His last known address was in the Billingham area.
John Alan Wilkinson, 42. He failed to attend Teesside Magistrates Court on July 15, 2008. His last known address was in the Stillington area.
Inspector Tony Rock, from Cleveland Police, said: “If persons are bailed to court and fail to attend, a warrant will be issued for their arrest.
“Stockton Police endeavour to arrest any wanted person the day they receive notification from a court.
“In the New Year, Stockton had 19 warrants outstanding which is the lowest total for some time.
“We would like to reduce the number of outstanding court warrants even further. We are therefore asking for the public’s help to trace the four persons whose photographs are shown.”

Dondo was one of the directors at the now-dissolved Synergy Harrogate Limited from 14 Jan 2005–14 Jan 2007.
This comes when Impala Car Rental, a car hire company, is under fire after its vehicle was used in the abduction of university student <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tawanda_Muchehiwa">Tawanda Muchehiwa</a> by suspected State agents in July this year.

Impala Car Rental Director Could Be A Wanted Man In UK

Impala Car Rental which is in the midst of a storm after a car they hired out was used to abduct MSU student Tawanda Muchehiwa has urged the students that were <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/10/15/watch-a-small-group-of-student-protestors-picketing-at-impala-car-rentals-headquarters/">picketing at their offices yesterday to confront the people in power, not a socially responsible corporate</a>, ZimMorning Post reports.
This was said by the company’s lawyer Mudimu who said if the students want their grievances heard they should go to the right people. Said Mudimu:
<blockquote>We(Impala Car Rental) handed the file to the police after they asked for it. We are surprised to see people saying we gave false information. All we are doing is to cooperate with the authorities in making sure that perpetrators are brought to book.
There is no reason why they should targeting a vehicle spares workshop when they know who has Ngadziore.
After all, the company is on record clearly stating the role it has played to date in cooperating with the law enforcement agents in the alleged abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa.
It would in this case be fair for the students to confront those in power instead of a well-meaning corporate which is already fighting to stay afloat as the economy continues to shrink, providing jobs and sustaining families.
There is nothing more the company can do besides cooperating with the authorities and law enforcement agencies who are handling the matter.</blockquote>

Confront The People In Power Not Us - Impala To Students Protestors

Impala Car Rental has released a statement in which it is denying reports circulating that it is delaying and frustrating the process of releasing information of the person(s) who hired the vehicle that was subsequently used in Tawanda Muchehiwa’s abduction, ZimMorning Post reports.
Impala legal team led by Jivas Mudimu addressed the media this morning and said:
<blockquote>In our first statement we highlighted that we will be abiding by the law enforcement agents and when they came to our offices asking for the file we then gave them
Because we are a concerned company and we are willing to assist Muchehiwa in finding the criminals we then made a follow up to the police but they told us that it was being used for further investigations. We did not know that they had already got a court order. When the order was served we informed the sheriff that the file is already with the police who had seized it.
So we are not frustrating the process. We are actually cooperating but we are not in a position to give the documents we do not have in our possession. We advised the family to approach the police and we even have the name of the officer who seized the documents</blockquote>

While addressing a live presser 101 Meters away from Impala Car Rental, an unidentified man attacked Takudzwa Ngadziore and the journalists covering the presser and caused the small crowd that had gathered there to disperse.
Ngadziore is protesting the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa who was abducted using an Impala car rental vehicle and was tortured by the abductors.
Ngadziore said they are not afraid of death, and they will not stop till justice for Tawanda is served.
Ngadziore was recently released from remand after he was arrested for staging a demo at Impala car rental early last week. He was ordered to say at least 100 meters from Impala Car Rentals part of his bail conditions.

The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU), Midlands State University Chapter, has demanded the immediate release of Takudzwa Ngadziore, the president of the students’ representative body.
In a statement on Thursday, the ZINASU MSU Chapter condemned Ngadziore’s arrest by police in Harare which they said clearly shows the State’s undemocratic tendencies. The statement read:
<blockquote>Midlands State University ZINASU Chapter stands impenetrable and solidified with President Takudzwa Ngadziore whose arrest explicitly exhibit the demise and contamination of democratic space in this country.
The right to freedom of expression is enshrined and consecrated in the constitution of Zimbabwe. Away with students leadership harassment and torture.
Our president is not a criminal, we stand in firm solidarity with him and demand his immediate release.</blockquote>
Ngadziore was arrested on Thursday for protesting at a car hire firm based in Harare, Impala Car Rental.
The 21-year student activist was demanding that the company provide answers concerning its alleged role in the use of its vehicles in the abduction of Tawanda Muchehiwa, a second-year journalism student at MSU.
Muchehiwa (22), was abducted, disappeared and tortured by some unidentified people in Bulawayo in July, who interrogated him to reveal the whereabouts of his relative, freelance journalist Mduduzi Mathuthu.

ZINASU Demands Ngadziore's Immediate Release

Impala Car Rental has released the following statement which states that they will cooperate with law enforcement agents investigation Tawanda Muchehiwa’s abduction in which one of their vehicles was used. Impala said they have no control over what their clients do with the vehicles after leasing them out. Read the full statement below:

As a service provider we are limited in controlling where and how our vehicles will be used because clients are not obliged to disclose their vehicle hiring purposes. It is very possible that some clients may use our vehicles for criminal activities without our knowledge &amp; it is not our intention to cover up for such criminals.
As Impala Car Rental we stand obligated to cooperate with any investigations by the Law Enforcement Agents into this matter so that Tawanda Muchehiwa gets justice.
We would like to assure all our stakeholders that Impala Car Rental remain committed to providing the best service possible at all times!

One of the vehicles that was used in the abduction of ZimLive EditorMduduzi Mathuthu’s nephew Tawanda Muchehiwa’s abduction in Bulawayo was hired from Impala Car Rental in Harare, ZimLive reports.
According to the owner of the vehicle who leases it out to Impala Car Rentals, the vehicle a white Ford Ranger, was returned to Impala Car Rental in Harare on August 6 with a damaged suspension and tyres.
The vehicle’s front plates were caught on CCTV which led the publication to trace its owner in Harare’s Ruwa suburb. The owner of the vehicle spoke to the publication and said:
<blockquote>The vehicle is on hire through Impala and I was not driving it (during the abduction),” the man, whose identity we are withholding, said on Friday. I understand it was returned to Impala on August 6 with badly damaged tyres and needing attention on the suspension. It went for repairs and I only got it back on August 25. I have again sent it back to Impala this morning for a new contract</blockquote>
Impala confirmed they leased out the vehicle in question in late July to their regular client and refused to give more details:
<blockquote>Unfortunately, your enquiry involves personal information. What I can tell you is that the vehicle was hired out to a regular client. We would be much more comfortable sharing that information with the police.</blockquote>
ZRP said they have not yet dealt with the case at national level so they could not comment on the issue. 22-year-old Muchehiwa was grabbed on 30 July and taken to an unknown location where he was tortured before he was dumped near his uncle’s home 3 days later.
