<figure>Former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai’s family has distanced itself from a group under the name, Morgan Tsvangirai Legacy.
The group of disgruntled MDC party members who have formed a pressure group has been resisting the current MDC leadership.
Manasa Tsvangirai, brother to the late opposition leader down-played the seriousness of the group. Speaking to the NewZimbabwe he said:
<blockquote>This is just a social media pressure group and it has nothing to do with the Tsvangirai family and it does not have our blessings,
We have no issues with them if they stick to just being a social media pressure group in support of the late Tsvangirai legacy but we will not allow them to monetise it.
We will never allow them and others to go beyond that and legalise their actions, which is the prerogative of the family.</blockquote>
The MDC national spokesperson Jacob Mafume also questioned the motive of the group. Mafume said:
<blockquote>If you want to talk about the legacy of a leader, you don’t form a pressure group to fight a political party he set up.
If you talk of a group that wants to preserve the legacy of a leader, you create a trust that gives scholarships, that enhances democracy, just like the Nelson Mandela Foundation, (Barack) Obama Foundation and so forth.
You don’t take his name to fight the legacy and the political party he set up, that is an oxymoron and that is an abuse of the legacy of Morgan Tsvangirai.</blockquote>

"In Defense of Morgan Tsvangirai Legacy" Suffers A Huge Blow

The Morgan Tsvangirai Legacy (MTL) pressure group has called on MDC Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora to urgently invoke the constitution and call for the extra-ordinary congress to elect a substantive president in accordance with Article 9.21 of the party’s constitution.
Armed with what they said is the original copy of the MDC constitution, MTL held a press conference in Harare yesterday where they said Nelson Chamisa’s term expired in February. The said calling for a congress in May is a breach of the constitution as Chamisa’s term of office came to an end on the 14 of February this year. Said Mernard Chisvo:
<blockquote>In terms of article 9.21 of the MDC constitution, the acting presidency claimed by Chamisa expired a year after the death of Dr Tsvangirai. There is no other section of that constitution which validates his continued stay as president or acting president outside an extra-ordinary congress properly called to elect a president of his party.</blockquote>
The pressure group also took a swipe at the criticised the decision to let G40 members and former MDC members; Welshman Ncube and Tendai Biti, among others to run for posts. The group said it is a violation of article 5.5.2.

Chamisa's Term Expired On 14 February- Pressure Group

In Defense of Morgan Tsvangirai Legacy (IDTML) has said MDC president Nelson Chamisa’s term of office as interim president has expired and should stop representing the opposition.
IDTML says Chamisa should pave way for an extra-ordinary congress to appoint a new president as stipulated by the MDC constitution. The group says Chamisa’s tenure expired at midnight of 14 of February 2019 as stipulated in article 9.21.1 of the MDC constitution. IDTLM spokesperson Webber Chinyadza said a process to file an urgent chamber application with High Court is in motion if Chamisa attempts to ignore the constitution. Said Chinyadza:
<blockquote>For clarity article 9.21.1 of MDC constitution states that; In the event of death or resignation of the president, the deputy assumes the role of acting president pending the holding of extraordinary congress that shall be held to elect a new president which extraordinary congress to be held no later than a year from the death or resignation of the former president</blockquote>
