President Emmerson Mnangagwa has extended by another six months the tribunal investigating suspended Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) commissioner John Makamure.
The three-member tribunal is chaired by retired High Court judge Justice Maphios Cheda. The other members of the tribunal are Harare lawyer Charles Warara and Regai Thandiwe Hove.
It was established on 21 October 2022 to investigate whether Makamure failed to disclose his involvement in political activities, which is inconsistent with the duties and functions of a commissioner.
The tribunal will also investigate whether Makamure directed one Lee Sung to fund his political campaign in Gokwe in return for his protection.
Mnangagwa extended the tribunal in terms of a Presidential proclamation gazetted as Statutory Instrument 30 of 2023 which reads in part:

Now, therefore, under, and by virtue of the powers vested in the President as aforesaid, I do hereby; by this proclamation amend Proclamation 4 of 2022, published in Statutory Instrument 172 of 2022, by insertion in paragraph (d) of the words ‘with an option of an extension of six (6) months after expiry of the initial five months.

Mnangagwa Extends Makamure Tribunal By Another Six Months

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on Tuesday, 01 November announced the appointment of Thandiwe Mlobane as its spokesperson with immediate effect.
Before the appointment, Mlobane was the ZACC Commissioner responsible for compliance and systems. ZACC said:

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) hereby announces the appointment of Commissioner Thandiwe Mlobane as the spokesperson with immediate effect.

Mlobane’s appointment as ZACC spokesperson comes after President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently named a tribunal to look into the removal from office of ZACC commissioner, John Makamure, who was the spokesperson.
Makamure is facing several corruption-related allegations.
The tribunal was set up in terms of section 237(2)(c) and section 187(3)  of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
Retired Justice Maphios Cheda chairs the tribunal while Justice Ministry secretary, Virginia Mabhiza, is its secretary.

Thandiwe Mlobane Appointed ZACC Spokesperson

Under fire Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) spokesperson John Makamure reportedly visited President Emmerson Mnangagwa in a bid to the appointment of a tribunal to <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zacc-spokesperson-faces-expulsion-over-corruption-allegations/">investigate his removal from office.</a>
Makamure reportedly visited president Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe on Sunday in the company of colleagues to try to stop the tribunal, but he was denied access to the President, according to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200002134/amh-journos-kicked-out-of-state-house-function">NewsDay</a>.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa eventually swore in <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-sets-commission-to-investigate-zacc-spokesperson/">a three-member tribunal</a> on Monday in terms of Statutory Instrument (172 of 2022) and <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/president-mnangagwa-sets-commission-to-investigate-zacc-spokesperson/">proclamation number 4 of 2022.</a>
The appointees are:
<blockquote>
1). Retired Justice Maphios Cheda chairperson of the tribunal. 
2). Lawyer Charles Warara and 
3). Lawyer Regai Hove.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs ministry secretary Virginia Mabiza is the secretary to the tribunal.
The tribunal will investigate whether or not:
<blockquote>
i). Makamure failed to disclose his involvement in political activities which is inconsistent with the duties and functions of the commissioner of ZACC 
ii). Makamure directed one Lee Sung to fund his political campaign in Gokwe in return for his protection.

Through a letter dated October 12, 2022, the Judicial Service Commission formally advised the President that the question of removal from the office of Makamure ought to be investigated.
It is alleged that Makamure was eyeing Justice Mayor Wadyadyena’s Gokwe-Nembudziya parliamentary seat in next year’s elections.
Following the move to investigate him, Makamure is also said to have tried to mend relations with Wadyadyena using top government officials and Mnangagwa’s allies, but Wadyajena reportedly declined the gesture.
The inquiry shall be held both in public and private, as the tribunal deems fit.
Makamure was appointed ZACC commissioner in 2019 following interviews conducted by Parliament. He was later appointed ZACC spokesperson.

Under Fire ZACC Spokesperson Visits President Mnangagwa To Stop Investigations

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed a commission to investigate commissioner John Makamure, the spokesperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zacc-spokesperson-faces-expulsion-over-corruption-allegations/">who is accused of underhand dealings</a>. A notice seen by Pindula News states that the mandate of the commission is to determine whether or not Makamure is fit to hold office in light of the foregoing. Reads the notice:

PROCLAMATION by
HIS EXCELLENCY, THE HONOURABLE EMMERSON DAMBUDZO MNANGAGWA. G.C.Z.M.. President of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of Zimbabwe;
WHEREAS section 237(2)(c) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, provides that a member of an Independent Commission may only be removed from office on the ground that the member concerned has been guilty of gross misconduct; 
AND WHEREAS. section 237(3) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, provides that the procedure for the removal of a judge from office applies to the removal from office of a member of an Independent Commission; 
AND WHEREAS. section 187(3) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, provides that if the Judicial Service Commission advises the President that the question of removing any judge, including the Chief Justice, from office ought to be investigated, the President must appoint a tribunal to inquire into the matter; 
AND WHEREAS, the Judicial Service Commission, by letter dated 12th October, 2022, formally advised the President that the question of removal from office of Commissioner John Makamure, ought to be investigated: 
AND WHEREAS, section 187(4) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, provides that the President may, when he considers it advisable, appoint a tribunal consisting of at least three members; 
AND WHEREAS. section 187(9) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, provides that, a tribunal appointed under section 187 has the same rights and powers as commissioners under the Commissions of Inquiry Act [Chapter 10:071, or any law that replaces that Act: 
NOW. THEREFORE, under and by virtue of the powers vested in the President as aforesaid. I do, by this Proclamation-
Proclamation 4 of 2022 
(a) establish a Tribunal to inquire into the question of removal from office of Commissioner John Makamure; 
(b) appoint Retired Justice Maphios Chcda as Chairperson of the Tribunal:
 (c) appoint the Secretary forJustice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to be the secretary to the Tribunal;
 (d) direct that the Tribunal shall be held for a period of five (5) months from the date of swearing in of Members, at such appropriate venue as shall be determined by the Tribunal; 
(e) direct that the report shall be availed at the conclusion of the inquiry:
 (f) direct that the Terms of Reference shall be as follows — 
(i) to investigate into the matter of the removal from office of Commissioner John Makamure of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission: (ii) to investigate whether or not Commissioner John Makamure failed to disclose his interest as the founder and trustee of the Southern African Parliamentary Support Trust (SAPST) whose objects are allegedly inconsistent with the functions of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and Government; 
(iii) to investigate whether or not Commissioner John Makamure failed to disclose his involvement in political activities which is inconsistent with the duties and functions as Commissioner of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission; 
(iv) to investigate whether or not Commissioner John Makamure directed one Lee Sung to fund his political campaigns in Gokwe in return for his protection; 
(v) to investigate whether or not Commissioner John Makamure’s conduct can be deemed to be tantamount to gross misconduct; 
(vi) to consider all information submitted by the Judicial Service Commission in order to arrive at an appropriate recommendation to the President;
(vii) to investigate any other matter which the Tribunal may deem appropriate and relevant to the inquiry; 
(viii) to recommend on whether Commissioner John Makamure, is fit to hold office in the light of the foregoing; and
 (ix) to report to the President, in writing, the result of the inquiry within a period of one month after completion of the inquiry; 
(g) direct that the inquiry shall be held both in public, or privately, as the exigencies of the Tribunal may determine: and 
(h) appoint the Members listed in the Schedule.

President Mnangagwa Sets Commission To Investigate ZACC Spokesperson

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is this Monday expected to swear in a tribunal to enquire into the removal from office of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner and spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/John_Makamure">John Makamure</a>.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Nick Mangwana said Commissioner Makamure faces a cocktail of allegations. In a Twitter post, Mangwana said:

This afternoon at 1600, State House Harare, His Excellency, President @edmnangagwa will swear in the Tribunal to enquire into the question of removal from office of Commissioner John Makamure of @ZACConline who faces a number of allegations including of a criminal nature.
</blockquote>
Just last month, Makamure told The Herald that ZACC was seized with several cases adding that<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/no-sacred-cows-in-fight-against-corruption-says-zacc/"> there should be no sacred cows.</a> He said:

The policy of the Government is zero tolerance for any form of corruption. The National Anti-Corruption Strategy (2020-2024), launched by His Excellency President Mnangagwa on 11 July 2020, is the main strategy in the fight against corruption.
In individual cases of corruption, every case will be investigated and punished in accordance with the dictates of our laws.
</blockquote>
Reports of corruption involving ZACC officials have eroded public confidence in the anti-graft body.
Some officials are reportedly being bribed by powerful people accused of corruption to throw away their cases.

ZACC Spokesperson Faces Expulsion Over Corruption Allegations

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission">Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)</a> has arrested four suspects Molyn Mugodi, Kirthmore Magqoka, Joseph Sigauke and John Tevera for fraudulently creating fake national identity cards used to steal ZWL$15 000 000.00 from at least nine pensioners. 
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZACC spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/John_Makamure">John Makamure</a> said investigations are still ongoing amid indications that more pensioners could have been scammed by the syndicate. 
<h2>What transpired:</h2>
Allegations are that Magqoka, Sigauke and Tevera would move around town looking for lost plastic national identification cards and once in possession of these, they would erase the details on the documents.
Two other suspects arrested last week, Collin Mangome and Isaac Mafa would then provide information about government pensioners who had received their lump sum payouts. 
The information included potential victims’ names, bank account numbers, national identity numbers, dates of birth and their respective banks. 
They would also get the same information in relation to account holders whose accounts had substantial amounts of money.
Equipped with this information, Mugodi would get the defaced national identity cards from Magqoka, Sigauke and Tevera and allegedly print fake national identity cards with the details of the targeted pensioners or account holders bearing the facial photos of either David Madzinga or Samson Chome.
The syndicate allegedly targeted pensioners or account holders banking with CBZ to commit the crimes via the bank’s mobile banking facility.
With the fake ID cards, Madzinga, Chome and another suspect Luckmore Matuku would then approach Econet agents mostly in smaller towns across Zimbabwe and do SIM card replacements leading to their victims’ mobile lines losing network connectivity.
It is alleged that once in control of their victim’s ‘new’ Econet line, the accused persons would then use it to log in to CBZ mobile banking platform and make withdrawals or other transactions.
Indications are that the syndicate used the money to buy US Dollars on the streets, bulk groceries and building materials for re-sale and then share the proceeds.

ZACC Arrests 4 Suspects For Stealing $15m From Pensioners Using Lost ID Cards

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACCacc) has been forced to pay ZW$5 million and six top-of-the-range vehicles to its former managers who were wrongfully fired from the anti-graft body in 2016.
The managers, Edwin Mubataripi (general manager prevention and advocacy), Gibson Mangwiro (chief accountant/finance manager) and Christopher Chisango (general manager finance, administration and human resources) were sacked in 2016 over allegations of corruption.
The trio was accused of underhand dealings involving the purchase of a ZACC property in the capital where the government was allegedly prejudiced of US$435 000. 
A former ZACC boss Ngonidzashe Gumbo was arrested over the matter in which he had allegedly connived with the three managers in the transaction. 
But Chisango, Mangwiro and Mubataripi approached the court to seek relief over unfair dismissal by ZACC.
After a five-year battle with the commission, the trio won the case and was supposed to be reinstated with salaries and benefits dating back to 2016.
However, the managers walked away. Said one of the former managers:
<blockquote>
We were supposed to be reinstated effective July 1, 2021, but we opted to give them three months’ notice and resigned. We were to be paid all the salary arrears for five years, that is between 2016 and 2021, but we resigned effective September 30, 2021.

A source said the managers were awarded two vehicles each; double cabs Toyota Hilux and Mazda BT50. They also received ZW$5 million each.
The commission processed some of the payments to the former managers instead of waiting on the government’s Salary Service Bureau (SSB).
Approached for comment, ZACC spokesperson John Makamure said:
<blockquote>
These are internal human resources issues that are being settled in accordance with government rules and regulations and Zacc’s own regulation. Any aggrieved parties fully understand the procedures to be followed.

This is not the first time that Zacc has clashed with workers for unfair dismissals as 19 investigating officers who were suspended over allegations of corruption fought through the courts and some were reinstated while others sought a ZW$1.5 million arbitrary award in 2016.

ZACC Pays ZW$5M, 6 Top-of-the-range Vehicles To Its Former Managers

proZimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission has reportedly set its sights on properties owned by different urban council executives and these executives risk losing their properties if they are found to have been bought through graft, The Standard reports.
This was revealed by the ZACC Spokesperson John Makamure who said they already have 9 active cases so far:
<blockquote>…Currently we are seized with nine active cases. Councils involved  include the City of Harare, City of Mutare, City of Gweru, Chiredzi Town Council and Victoria Falls Town Council, just but to mention a few.
In some instances, council employees steal council stands without following procedure and pocket the proceeds. Some council employees connive with bogus housing co-operatives and illegally sell stands to people
There is no actual value of properties involved as evaluations are to be finalised for some of the properties, but the estimated value of the properties is US$4 million. It involves senior management and officers of the local authorities
Some were commercial stands and wetlands that have been illegally converted to residential stands. some are residential areas that are turned to commercial stands.
The properties are acquired through proceeds of crime as the council officials are given kick-backs after fraudulently disposing council land using estate agents and cooperatives</blockquote>
Over the last few months, the government has intensified its fight against corruption in urban councils. Demolitions of structures built on land otherwise meant for other projects or on wetlands are supposed to be done.
Land barons have been arrested or investigated in some cases. This has reportedly led to the poisoning of Harare Development Director Tafadzwa Muguti who reportedly ruffled a <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/11/zanu-pf-affiliated-land-barons-allegedly-poisoned-harare-development-coordinator-tafadzwa-muguti-report/">few Zanu PF land barons furthers</a> as he was trying to rid the city of Land Barons.

ZACC Goes After Urban Council Executives' Properties

Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission ZACC has revealed that it is working very hard on the Bulawayo City Council Docket as it is investigating corruption in various councils countrywide, Chronicle reports.
This was revealed by ZACC Commissioner John Makamure who said their team is still investigating the issue and they want to come up with an airtight docket. Said Makamure:
<blockquote>We are doing thorough investigations in Bulawayo, which is why our team is still there, over two weeks on, our aim is that we have an airtight docket that will lead to convictions hence we are gathering the necessary documentation and evidence relating to the BCC issue.
We are working hard to weed out all corruption within our local authorities, as it is, we have reports in Bulawayo, Harare, Kwekwe and Gweru to mention but a few, where we are gathering the necessary evidence for us to effect the arrests.</blockquote>

We Are Making Sure We Have An Airtight Docket That Will Lead To Convictions - ZACC On Investigating BCC

A lifestyle audit into the lives of thirty-six (36) high profile figures whose assets are worth a combined value of US$4.5 Million is currently being conducted by the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission, The Sunday Mail reports.
This was revealed by ZACC Commissioner John Makamure who shed more light on the lifestyle audit and said:
<blockquote>Asset recovery is proceeding well. We are currently handling 36 cases to do with asset recovery running into more than US$4,5 million</blockquote>
Makamure also spoke about their target as ZACC which is to bring 80 Cases to the NPA and said:
<blockquote>
…Basically, ZACC has managed to bring all key stakeholders together in the fight against corruption. It is no longer a ‘them and us’ approach.
Cases are now moving in the courts due to the setting up of anti-corruption courts and hiring of dedicated prosecutors for these courts. Over 50 dockets have been completed by ZACC and submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for prosecution. Our target is 80 this year.
Just last week we signed an MoU with the Parliament of Zimbabwe, which is a vital player in the anti-corruption fight</blockquote>
ZACC also said it successfully launched the National Anti-Corruption Strategy which according to ZACC is a highly consultative process.

ZACC Conducting A Lifestyle Audit On 36 High Profile Figures - Report

Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) has reportedly opened an investigation into National Railways Of Zimbabwe following reports that there might be some procurement irregularities at NRZ, The Sunday News reports.
The development was confirmed by ZACC Spokesperson Commissioner John Makamure who said:
<blockquote>Although I cannot give you all the details for now, to avoid jeopardising our investigations I can only confirm that our team is looking into the procurement processes at NRZ which are said to be flawed.
I must emphasise that as a commission we will not rest until we weed out all the corruption in the country because it goes on to grossly affect our economy in both the short and the long term, therefore the public should not hesitate to approach our offices to whistle blow on any corruption activities.</blockquote>

ZACC Sets Sights On NRZ

The anti-graft body, ZACC has reportedly set its sights on Zanu PF stalwart Ray Kaukonde and they are investigating him for possible criminal abuse of office, The Herald reports. This was as a result of a land dispute on the status of a 1 000ha farm in Goromonzi which sucked in the former Mashonaland East Governor which has led the commission to look his direction.
Kaukonde reportedly allocated the state acquired farm to his sister who is based in the United Kingdom land that is currently under the control of a company known as Whiteside Farms (Private) Limited.
Whiteside Farms and its majority shareholder have appeal at the High Court a ruling by the Land Commission in January this year that the farms were acquired by the State in 2006, with Whiteside claiming that the farm was delisted from possible acquisition in 2002.
Kaukonde’s sister is allegedly a director of the company that owns a majority of the shares of Whiteside which creates a conflict or a breach of regulations set by the government concerning land ownership.
ZACC has reportedly opened an investigation into the allegations levelled against Kaukonde and his sister. The developments were confirmed by ZACC Spokesperson John Makamure who said:
<blockquote>The matter is still under investigations. I cannot divulge any further information.</blockquote>
ZACC has said it is working on a high profile case that involves $3 Million and high profile arrests will be conducted soon.

ZACC Investigating Ray Kaukonde For Criminal Abuse Of Office - Report

Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission is reportedly about to bust a syndicate that involves Senior Government officials that siphoned US$3 million from Treasury by inflating prices for Covid-19 sundries, The Sunday Mail reports. This was revealed by ZACC Spokeperson Commisioner John Makamure who said their arrests were imminent:
<blockquote>The names of the Government officials and private suppliers cannot be released now as investigations are still underway,
In the past couple of weeks, ZACC’s compliance and systems review unit managed to save the country over US$3 million that could have been siphoned to line the pockets of corrupt elements within our midst. These individuals imposed proxy companies which did not comply with provisions of the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) Circular 1 of 2020 for emergency procurement of Covid-19 materials.
The individuals went on to demand payments of goods at an extremely inflated cost. The ZACC compliance team’s intervention, after having been informed of the unavailability of the said materials, subsequently resulted in the cancellation of the tender, saving State funds in the process. The matter is now under investigation to bring those behind this scam to book</blockquote>
<blockquote>Because Covid-19 is a global pandemic, the response is naturally of an emergency. In taking such emergency measures, countries have necessarily relaxed safeguards by trading compliance, oversight and accountability for speed of response and achievement of rapid impact, thus leading to the creation of significant opportunities for corruption to thrive.
The commission has lived up to its warnings by maintaining constant vigilance on how the Covid-19 resources are being used. Teams from investigations and compliance departments were deployed to specifically look into the procurement, distribution and use of the resources.</blockquote>
This will be the second COVIDgate scandal after the Draxgate scandal that made former Health Minister Obadiah Moyo lose his job.

ZACC Closing In On A Syndicate That Involves Senior Govt Officials That Siphoned US$3 Million From Treasury - ZACC

ZACC will next week officially launch its Whistle Blower App, The Sunday Mail reports. According to ZACC’s Commissioner John Makamure who wrote the article in which he said there is a 100% increase in cases reported by the public to ZACC in 2020 in contrast to those reported in 2019.
Makamure also said the number of cases reported which may be reported by an insider privy to the developments, a supplier and or a customer might soar as the public gains confidence in the work of the commission.
In explaining how the app works and how they will protect the identity of the whistleblower as an organisation Makamure said:
<blockquote>The whistle-blowing app will be available on <a class="vglnk" href="http://www.zacc.online/tip-off" rel="nofollow">www.zacc.online/tip-off</a> or through links that will be communicated via the ZACC communication platforms. The application is designed to engage with the user through an artificial intelligence operation that asks the user questions in a manner that is as easy as texting.
The idea of making it basic and user-friendly is based on the need to quickly attend to an issue and get the information that is useful in the shortest possible time.
In order to ensure maximum protection of the identity of the whistle-blower, infrastructure that powers the application is designed to blind all incoming records to ensure that no one will ever have access to the location, device type or any cookie that may be harvested online.
This process is done by sending all the traffic through one server that will encrypt the sent messages and mask all the incoming reports with one IP address.
That is to say if a person in Kadoma and another in Johannesburg makes a report through the app, as far as the setup has been configured, that report is coming from one location, device and address.
Some will ask why the platform is not available on applications that people use on a daily basis such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, etcetera.
After considering all these platforms during the development of the application, we figured out that the greatest need was privacy of the whistle-blower.
We thus deliberately excluded platforms that come with a username or mobile service number as a form of identification.</blockquote>
ZACC has said they have recovered assets acquired through corruption that amounts to over $100 million while the public has branded ZACC a toothless bulldog because it has very few convictions despite making high profile arrests.

ZACC To Officially Launch A Whistle Blower App Next Week

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested Victoria Falls Mayor, Councillor Somvelo Dlamini over alleged abuse of office.
Dlamini who is also MDC-Alliance councillor for Ward 9 was picked from his home on Saturday. ZACC spokesperson, Commissioner John Makamure confirmed the arrest but could not give details. Speaking to the Sunday Mail on Sunday, he said: 

<blockquote>I don’t have the details of his case off-hand but what I know is that he has been arrested. If you want further details phone me in two hours-time as I am driving at the moment.</blockquote>
The arrest comes at a time when members of the public have demanded more from the anti-graft commission. They say that so far, ZACC has been arresting and releasing corruption suspects and less to no convictions have been made.
Some critics have said that the commission was established to establish the interests of political elites as nothing has been done to prominent people who are alleged to be corrupt.
In its defence, ZACC says that the commission needs evidence that accused individuals are indeed corrupt as they would be exonerated by courts if no evidence is presented.

Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Arrests MDC's Victoria Falls Mayor

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is seeking to retain part of its recovered proceeds from looted funds to fund its operations, Nehanda Radio reports. This was revealed at a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Transparency_International_Zimbabwe">Transparency International Zimbabwe</a> (TIZ) Corruption Perceptions Index Results Report launch by ZACC Commissioner Jonh Makamure who said:
<blockquote>We are cognisant of the budgetary limitations, we are making proposals for retention of a percentage of assets recovery so that we are able to capacitate <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission">ZACC</a>.
The fiscus will never be able to fund this anti-corruption fight. We all know that it’s not possible at the moment.</blockquote>
ZACC has been accused by the populace of catching and releasing criminals and ZACC defended their commission by saying their mandate starts and ends with catching criminals, prosecution is left to the National Prosecution Authority.

ZACC Seeks To Retain Part Of The Recovered Looted Money To Fund Its Operations

The Vice President’s wife, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Marry_Chiwenga">Marry Chiwenga</a> is facing 6 counts of money laundering and externalisation charges, the Chronicle reports.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission">ZACC</a>‘s John Makamure confirmed Marry’s arrest but declined to give further details about the case:
<blockquote>I am not yet privy to the circumstances but I can tell you she was arrested on Saturday for allegedly externalising currency and money laundering. I have not heard about the fraud case. I will have more details when I get to the office tomorrow(today)</blockquote>
Marry is also accused of fraudulently trying to obtain a marriage certificate while the Vice President was indisposed in South Africa.

Marry Facing 6 Counts Of Fraud And Externalization Charges

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission">Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission</a> has reportedly arrested 10 <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beitbridge">Beitbridge</a> Border post stationed  <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Revenue_Authority">ZiMRA</a> officers and agents for smuggling cars into Zimbabwe the Chronicle reports.
The arrests were made after ZACC and ZImra in a joint operation launched an operation against smuggling vehicles which are believed to be in access of 2400.
ZACC ‘s John Makamure confirmed the arrests and said:
<blockquote>Yes, we have arrested 10 Zimra officials who were allegedly involved in the smuggling of vehicles and they will soon appear in court. The operation targeting to recover smuggled vehicles is an ongoing exercise and we will not rest until all who are involved are brought to book.
ZACC and Zimra have since started to recover some of the vehicles which entered in the country illegally. We expect to recover more. The nation has lost thousands (of dollars) in revenue in this scam and we need to recover that money.</blockquote>
The operation has managed to recover 102 cars so far.

ZACC Arrests 10 ZIMRA Officers For Smuggling Cars In The Country

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission">Zimbabwe  Anti Corruption Commission</a> has approached responsible authorities seeking prosecutorial powers to expedite the prosecution of the people they find on the wrong side of the law the Sunday Mail reports. The move was confirmed by Commissioner John Makamure who said:
<blockquote>Yes, we have made representations to be granted those powers. (The) matter is under consideration. We are of the strong view that Zacc must be granted powers to prosecute corruption cases, while the NPA must concentrate on other numerous criminal matters. This will certainly speed up prosecution of corrupt cases. Zacc can prosecute through the recently established Anti-Corruption Courts.</blockquote>
ZACC which was previously <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/03/zimbabwe-anti-corruption-commission-given-arresting-powers/">given arresting powers</a> was established in March this ear and has been on record saying they have recovered over <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/10/03/just-in-weve-recovered-properties-worth-over-100m-zacc/">$100 Million worth property bought</a> through corruption. ZACC’s high profile case to date is that of former tourism minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Prisca_Mupfumira">Prisca Mupfumira</a> who was arrested for <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/26/mupfumira-facing-graft-charges-involving-95-million/">siphoning $95 Million</a> from NSSA on personal grounds.
