Former Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services commissioner-general retired Major-General  <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Paradzai_Zimondi">Paradzai Zimondi</a>, has died from Covid-19.
He was 73.
Zimondi’s death comes barely hours after the announcement of the death of the minister of Transport, Joel Biggie Matiza who also succumbed to COVID-19.
Zimondi was one of former President Robert Mugabe’s close allies and constituted a group of service chiefs credited for keeping the late leader’s rein from fierce challenge by the opposition.

Former Prisons Boss Paradzai Zimondi Dies

Zimbabwe’s Prisons Commissioner General, Paradzai Zimondi has said that Government Ministers who are jailed do not get special treatment in the country’s prisons. He said everyone eats the same food and uses the same blankets. He also said that politicians who are jailed actually become good ambassadors of the needs of prisoners since they get to experience it first hand.
Recently the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/08/08/breaking-ed-fires-mupfumira/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">former minister</a> of Tourism and Hospitality, <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Prisca_Mupfumira" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Prisca Mupfumira</a> was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/07/28/watch-law-prohibits-priscah-mupfumira-to-apply-for-bail-in-21-days-prof-madhuku/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">arrested and is currently in remand</a> prison awaiting her corruption trial.

'No Special Treatment Of Ministers In Prison'

The Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has imposed a $10 monthly compulsory contribution beginning next year in January, from all staff members which it says will be channelled towards “the improvement of conditions of service”.
The development was confirmed in a memo dated 16 November 2016 and signed by ZPCS Commissioner General Paradzai Zimondi, circulated to officers-in-charge at all prisons throughout the country last week which was seen by NewZimbabwe.com. According to the memo, members will be funding the ZPCS transport system by buying fuel to transport prisoners to courts, as well as their own health care services from their salaries.
