Two soldiers and a District Development Fund (DDF) driver have been sentenced to 15 months in prison by Concession magistrate Mr Joshua Nembaware for stealing building materials from First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s farm.
Tazvitya Kutuka (38) and Perioge Chikuya (46), the soldiers, and their accomplice, Tolucky Kambakuku (43), will spend six months in prison after the sentence was conditionally suspended.
Nembaware stated that the convicts betrayed the trust placed in them by the First Lady and showed no respect for her by stealing her property. The prosecutor stated that the soldiers were deployed at the First Farm in Glendale to supervise the construction of a warehouse and conspired with Kambakuku to steal building materials.
The police arrested Kambakuku, who was caught keeping the stolen property, and he implicated the two soldiers. All the stolen property valued at US$3,238.50 was recovered.
It is not the first instance where robbers have targeted an elite first family in Zimbabwe. In 2019, the state-owned Herald newspaper reported that almost $1m (£914,000) in cash was stolen from a briefcase that belonged to <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe</a>‘s former President, <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Robert Mugabe</a>.
Recently, three individuals were brought to court, charged with stealing a suitcase that contained $150,000. However, as per “updated <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">court documents</a>” reviewed by the Herald, Mr. Mugabe claimed to have lost a considerably larger sum of money.

2 Soldiers Jailed 15 Months For Stealing First Lady's Building Material

The first family held a memorial service for Yasha Mafidi Mnangagwa (5), President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s grandson who died of respiratory complications in October 2022.
Yasha was the son of Mr Sean Tafadzwa Mnangagwa and his wife Varaidzo.
The President, who was flanked by First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, his children, relatives and friends, said:

Kids at this age have no sin and the Lord above says let them come to me. Unfortunately, we, grandparents and parents, sometimes do not agree with the word of God. We would want it the other way, but we have no choice. We would want to see our children grow up and fulfil their wishes and their talents in life, but, of course, as the word of God says he gives and he takes, and we have no authority over that. 
It is in the hands of the Lord above. I thank you all for this day that we have come together. To Tafadzwa (Sean), his wife, relatives and the entire family, I say this did not start with you; it is part and parcel of life. It is also the law of God that we all have to accept. Today it is in the Mnangagwa family, tomorrow it is elsewhere, but we must accept that God has done as he wishes. These young children, the friends he played with may not understand. They still ask as to where their colleague went.
However, as time passes, I think they will accept that he went to God, and I believe my daughters-in-law – their mothers – try to teach them so.
Yasha loved his grandmother more than me. Each time he would come home, he would go to his grandmother first, even when we were seated together the two of us. I felt jealous, but I said when he grows up, he will know where the power lies. All these jokes are now gone. That is how we enjoyed life with him around.
We are gathered here today in loving memory of Yasha Mafidi Mnangagwa. Yasha to us had many names. I used to call him Fidi, Mafidi, General, Commander. He had so many names. He had such a beautiful, loving spirit. Each time he would visit his grandfather’s place with his brothers and sisters, you would see them playing together. Fidi would command how things would be going and who is playing with what and what time we start and what time we finish, and who is going to eat first and who is going to eat last.
At such a young age, he had a very brotherly spirit. We used to watch him playing well with his peers. Indeed, it’s a very sad moment for the family, for all of us. His passing left a huge hole in our hearts. But through scripture and through prayers from our pastors here, and all your prayers and the small memories we have of him, I feel, sooner or later, the hole will slowly fill up.
To my Yasha, I want to say you are not alone; we are all here for you. There was a lot of sadness in this house following his death, but today I see smiles because you have all come to comfort us. I would like to thank everybody for your prayers. Let us keep the memories and love.

Ms Josephine Mavura, sister to Yasha’s mother the void that Mafidi left is impossible to fill.  
Miss Nix Grant, the headmistress of Yasha’s school, Silver Linings said the loss of a loved one is incredibly difficult, even more so when the life lost is a precious young man. 
Yasha’s teacher at Silver Linings, Ms Natasha Herbst, said Yasha was a sweet and loving little boy and had a way of leaving a lasting impression on anyone he met.
The sermon at the memorial service was delivered by Chaplain Christine Phiri, who read from 1 Corinthians Chapter 10 verse 13, which reads:

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
</blockquote>
The chaplain said losing a loved one, a child or a relative is not a result of a curse, adding “God is the giver and taker of life.”

First lady <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Auxilia_Mnangagwa">Auxilia Mnangagwa</a>’s security Thursday ejected a group of Bulawayo-based journalists who were covering the celebration of the city’s centenarian residents.
President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a>’s wife was officiating at the event held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair.
ZimLive.com reports that it turned out those who were permitted to cover the function were Harare-based ZBC and Herald journalists who now form her entourage.
Journalists based in Bulawayo were initially allowed to cover a march from the City Hall to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_International_Trade_Fair">ZITF</a> before the first lady arrived.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a journalist said Mnangagwa’s security was very open in its position that only journalists assigned to cover the first lady were the only ones welcome. ZimLive.com cites the journalist as saying:

The boys in suits surrounded one photographer who was taking pictures and asked him what he was doing. They told him that the first lady has her own team.
They then approached the Provincial Information Officer and instructed him to get all the Bulawayo-based journalist out of the venue which he did. 
This is a Bulawayo event and the centenarians being celebrated are our people from the city. Since we were denied the opportunity to cover them, our listeners have been denied the right to hear about this event

Journalists who were barred from the event also felt mistreated by the first lady’s communications team which failed to inform them beforehand that they were not welcome.
The event to celebrate and honour the city`s senior citizens who are 100 years and above was organised by the SPA Community Trust in conjunction with various organisations which include the Bulawayo City Council.
The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe has reminded authorities to allow all journalists to enjoy their constitutionally-guaranteed rights of access to information of public interest.

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa has warned Simba Chikanza, the editor of the online publication Zimeye, against attempting to blackmail her into granting him an interview.
In a statement issued on Sunday, 15 May, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, Kudzai Gumbo revealed that the First Lady spoke with Chikanza “off the record” and made it clear that she had no authority to speak about issues the journalist wanted to talk about.
Chikanza had on Sunday warned Mnangagwa that if she failed to reach out to him to finish the conversation they had, he would reveal their “incomplete video call”. <a href="https://twitter.com/schikanza/status/1525786120117788674">Tweeted Chikanza:</a>

In a statement issued on Sunday, 15 May, in response to Chikanza’s threat, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, Kudzai Gumbo revealed that the First Lady spoke with Chikanza “off the record” and made it clear that she had no authority to speak about issues the journalist wanted to talk about. Simba Chikanza of Zimeye online media platform called the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Mai Auxilia Mnangagwa, wanting to interview her on issues that the First Lady felt were out of her competence.
The First Lady spoke to Simba Chikanza off the record, which is a journalism standard and ethical rule that allows the proposed interviewee, Mai Mnangagwa, an opportunity to speak with journalists giving them context to issues and why she can’t speak on them.
It is a tragic and terrible ethical breach of journalism for Simba Chikanza to then blackmail the First Lady publicly, demanding that she gives him an interview based on a threat to release an off the record conversation.
The First Lady has always been available to speak to journalists because she understands her obligatory role and functions to the Nation.
The First Lady also understands that she needs to allow journalists to do their work professionally by being available when they need information related to her role and functions.
However, it is unprofessional for journalists to force her to speak on issues on which she has no authority to speak, especially after she has explained in an off the record conversation why she can’t do so.
The attempt by Simba Chikanza to blackmail Mai Mnangagwa into speaking to him using threats to release an off the record conversation is the worst unethical breach in journalism.
If he carries out his threats, it will break the trust between the Office of the First Lady and the media, something that Mai Mnangagwa doesn’t want to happen.

Auxillia Mnangagwa Accuses Journalist Of Blackmail

President Emmerson has created national awards to honour outstanding Zimbabweans through Statutory Instrument 213 of 2021.
One of the first recipients of the awards is the president’s wife, Auxillia Mnangagwa who was awarded the Order of the Star of Zimbabwe Gold.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE HONOURABLE EMMERSON D. MNANGAGWA, G.C.Z.M., President of Zimbabwe and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces of Zimbabwe.
WHEREAS it is desirable to grant recognition for an outstanding contribution or stellar accomplishments which further the interests of Zimbabwe, arising from the contribution of the luminaries. heroes and heroines of the First Chimurenga, solidarity and friendship of foreigners, selfless dedication to the preservation of Zimbabwe, selfless achievement of the highest order in humanitarian work, human capital development, national development and justice;
AND WHEREAS in terms of the Honours and Awards Act [Chapter 10:11] it is provided that the President may, by warrant issued under his hand, create Honours and Awards:
NOW.THEREFORE, under and by virtue of the powers vested in the President as aforesaid, I do, by this warrant, hereby create three awards and specify in relation thereto the following rules:—

Interpretation of terms 
1. In these rules — “Diamond Award” means the Order of the Great Zimbabwe Diamond referred to in rule

The award recognises the spirit of humanism exhibited by the recipient while honouring the virtues of concern for the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.
(5) The Robert Gabriel Mugabe Commendation Award for Service in Human Capital Development may be awarded for outstanding, transformative service in human capital development that opens up and realises growth in new economic sectors while ensuring inclusivity.
(6) The Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Commendation Award for Community Development, Peace Building and Fostering Unity may be awarded for outstanding and consistent transformative service in the improvement of livelihoods at the community level, engendering peacemaking and fostering unity.
(7) The Herbert Wiltshire Pfumaindini Chitepo Commendation Award for Justice and Human Rights may be awarded for the distinguished and consistent pursuit of justice and human rights for the greater good of humanity.

Mnangagwa Honours His Wife, Auxillia, With "Order Of The Great Zimbabwe Gold" Award

First lady Auxillia Mnangagwa is reportedly in the middle of converting a refugee camp in Chilonga into an orphanage despite the fact that the camp is sitting on land that has been designated to be used by Dendairy to grown Lucerne grass, The NewsHawks exclusively reports.
The first lady’s charity foundation Angel of Hope is reportedly leading the renovation of Chambuta Refugee Camp to turn it into an orphanage that will be named after her.
A village head from Makhosiya area who spoke to the NewsHawks on condition of anonymity said the Lucerne grass project was just a cover story as he <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/13/diamonds-the-real-reason-for-chilonga-evictions-report/">speculated that the government wants to mine minerals</a> in the area:

A government official based in Masvingo told the publication that the first lady first started showing interests in Chiredzi after the 2019/2020 survey that discovered minerals in the area.
The official also said if the government is sincere about the project why did it not give Dendairy Central Estate in Midlands which is reportedly currently underutilized.
On another note, her predecessor Grace Mugabe at one point also evicted villagers in Mazowe in order to pave way for her own projects in the area in which she subsequently established an orphanage.

Auxillia Turning Refugee Camp Sitting On Dendairy Land Into Her Orphanage In Chillonga - Report

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa will this week launch a cooking competition aimed at promoting Zimbabwe’s traditional dishes, The Herald reports.
According to the publication the countrywide competition branded Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competition will showcase the different cooking methods of Traditional foods in ZImbabwe.
According to the publication, this is how the competition will be executed:

<li>Selected groups will be afforded an opportunity to take part in the competition open to all provinces, including the general populace with specific focus on chiefs’ wives, women in business, women from the religious sector, the disabled, hotels, cascading down to schoolchildren.</li>
<li>The entire event will be broken down into three distinct categories.</li>
<li>There will be a one-day pre-mentoring activity on cultural foods and contestants would be expected to share the skills learnt when they return to their communities</li>
<li>The planned competition will have a mystery basket from the First Lady under which contestants will be given a basket of ingredients and be required to create a traditional dish of their choice within a stipulated time frame. Auxillia Mnangagwa To Launch A Nationwide Cooking Competition This Week

One person has died while 3 others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in crashed near Muzarambani, ZimLive reports. All four of the people involved in the accident were First lady Auxilia Mnangagwa’s aides and their vehicle was travelling behind the first lady’s vehicle when the accident occurred,
According to the publication, security forces confirming the accident said the Toyota Hilux in which the security aides were travelling in veered off the road at the Mavhuradonha Mountain Range on the Centenary-Muzarabani Road and rolled down a steep, rocky embankment before coming to a stop against a tree.
Airforce helicopters were reportedly deployed to ferry the injured back to Harare for them to receive medical attention. The first lady was travelling to hand out food parcels in the province according to the publication.

President Mnangagwa’s wife yesterday launched the first-ever women and youth driver training program in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Goromonzi">Goromonzi</a>, The Chronicle reports.
Auxillia who is the National Transport and Drivers Association (NTDA) patron, speaking at the launch of the program which will be run in conjunction with Traffic Safety Council Of Zimbabwe said;
<blockquote>Today, we have gathered here to officially launch a driver training programme where we would like to train youth and women how to drive.
The quality of drivers we intend to produce is the ideal driver who is courteous, cautious, and responsible.
The main objective of such a programme is to empower both women and youth in Zimbabwe. We would like to produce competent drivers in order to reduce and even better, to eliminate road carnage in Zimbabwe</blockquote>
During the 2019 festive season, the First lady would intercept motorists and interact with them on the need to observe road rules according to the publication.

The First lady reportedly ordered her driver to speed chase a speeding Zupco bus, Auxilia then confronted the speeding driver when she caught up with him and even called the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_United_Passenger_Company">ZUPCO</a> offices to ascertain the driver’s qualifications, ZimMorning reports.
In an interview with the publication, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Auxilia_Mnangagwa">Auxilia Mnangagwa</a> said:

The research, African First Ladies Database by a group of South African-based academics has reported that former Zimbabwean first lady, Grace Mugabe is among three powerful African first ladies who were politically ambitious.
The report confirms the widely shared view that she was using her position to interfere with the governement business.
The research, released this week by South African-based academics, Jo-Ansie van Myk and Chidochashe Nyere, names the most influential first ladies in Africa. It observed:

<blockquote>These were Janet Museveni, wife of Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni; Grace Mugabe, the wife of Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe; and Denise Nkurunziza, wife of Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza. The report further reports how Grace used her closeness to former president Robert Mugabe to be politically connected. It reported:
<blockquote>Her political career spanned a mere three years (2014-2017) when she was elected as the President of the Zanu PF’s Women’s League.
This role meant that she automatically became a member of the party’s Politburo.
She was successful in gaining support for her husband’s tenure as well as her own political ambitions from religious leaders, youth and the Women’s League, traditional leaders, and minority apostolic churches. She made some noteworthy claims of support for her husband.</blockquote>
The study suggests that the constitution clarifies the roles of first ladies for accountability purposes.
Recently, Zimbabweans have been likening current First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa’s actions to those of Grace.

Grace Mugabe Among Politically Ambitious First Ladies - Recent Study

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa’s role in state affairs has come under scrutiny from observers who claim that she is interfering with government business.
Mnangagwa recently railed at bosses at the National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm), a state-run enterprise, over the unavailability of medicines in hospitals while they are in stock at the warehouse.
She has, however, defended her actions as a health ambassador. Said Mnangagwa:
<blockquote>I have been a health ambassador for quite some time and my role is to help the vulnerable in whatever possible way.
When I made a visit to NatPharm, I had asked the Minister of Health (Obadiah Moyo) to accompany me so that I could appreciate their operations.
It is unfortunate that he was in a meeting. He sent a representative.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer Eldred Masunungure said that is is not unusual for first ladies across the world to be involved in humanitarian work. Said Masunungure:
<blockquote>During the first days of Mnangagwa’s rule, he promised to keep his family away from State matters and he managed to do so in the run-up to the elections.
But now, he might need to reconsider certain things and ensure his wife does not get too much attention and compete with him in State papers.
First ladies the world over are known for humanitarian work and giving a human face to the State. They are there to do social work and that is what Auxillia should focus on. She must continue with her humanitarian work and not try to venture into governance issues.</blockquote>

ZimLive reports that a Binga Chief who publicly criticised first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for commissioning a “useless” fishing pond faces possible arrest on 28 February.
Chief Pashu, whose name is George Nyathi apparently told an advance briefing meeting of the fish pond commissioning that what his people really need are electricity and mobile phone connectivity and not a useless fish pond.
ZimLive says it has a confidential document that shows the ZRP, CIO and PSC concluded inn another meeting later that Chief Pashu wasn’t working alone and that they would arrest and question him for his utterances.
Says the document from the meeting:
<blockquote>The command agreed that he would be brought in for questioning on Monday, March 4, a later date
[Pashu had been given three minutes to brief Mnangagwa] but went up to 12 minutes blasting the first lady until the first lady interjected telling the chief that you have undressed me. She said she did not go there to be undressed but to commission the projects at Manyanda Secondary School</blockquote>
Auxilia Mnangagwa, however, is reported to not have taken offence but advised the chief that he could air his grievances in the appropriate forum. The chief apologised and the first lady asked for permission to develop the area.

Binga Chief Faces Arrest For Humiliating First Lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa

First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa yesterday launched a goat rearing project in Masvingo province.
She donated 1 000 goats to orphanages to kick-start the project. Amai Mnangagwa unveiled the project at Helen Macghie Primary School during her interaction with children from various schools around the province, teaching them on tradition and cultural practices.
She recently launched the #NganonaAmai initiative in Harare. Under the initiative she invites schoolchildren for story-telling as way of preserving cultural values. The First Lady also handed over an assortment of groceries and blankets to some of the children’s homes in Masvingo.

Ministry Of Health Appoints First lady As Health Ambassador

Zanu-PF Midlands provincial deputy youth chairperson, Prosper Machando has been declared as the candidate for Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe constituency in the upcoming elections.
Zanu-PF members supporting Chrispen Tomu, led by councillor Tremendous Musara, recently protested against the declaration of Machando as the party candidate. Tomu’s supporters disrupted a provincial coordinating committee meeting in Gweru over the matter. It had been earlier announced that Tomu had won the primaries, but Zanu-PF claims the results did not include three other party districts that had failed to vote.
Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairman, Daniel McKenzie Ncube told The Herald that they had resolved the matter amicably and Tomu is now campaigning for Machando. Ncube said he also engaged Musara. Emmerson Mnangagwa was the first Member of Parliament for Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe before his wife Auxillia Mnangagwa took over when he was elevated to the presidium in 2014.

Mnangagwa Warns Auxillia, Marry Chiwenga To Stay Away From Husbands' Duties

First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has expressed concern over the high rate of child marriage cases among the Doma people in Kanyemba, Mashonaland Central.
She said children should be mature before getting married and urged women to refuse marrying off their daughters. Said Mnangagwa:
<blockquote>It is painful for a child to bear a child. Children should grow up and mature before getting married. Women should refuse to marry off their daughters. If we marry our children early the problem will always come back to us women. You will nurse your child and grandchild at the same time. Every parent should play a role in the upbringing of children.</blockquote>
One woman who spoke to The Herald said they have no other activities except to get married and they cannot go to school because the schools are far away and also we cannot afford school fees.

First Lady Worried About Child Marriage Cases Among The Doma People

First lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has told individuals and organisations that wanted to get her gifts for her birthday and to show how much they appreciate her by running adverts in the country’s newspapers not to. Instead, she directed these entities to donate the money to charity instead. Under the tenure of former president Robert Mugabe, the president and the first lady’s birthday were huge spectacles where corporates took the opportunity to donate to the first family, allegedly as a way to curry favour.
Said the first lady,
<blockquote>I have noticed that there was an attempt without my consent to run supplements over my birthday in newspapers. I was neither consulted and am not part of it. My entire life, I have never aspired to such public displays and do not wish to start now.
We launched the Angel of Hope Foundation to inspire hope and ensure that we give underprivileged children a fighting chance. This is what my life’s passion is about and not praise-singing.
Those who have money to buy expensive newspaper space should not do so in my name. I challenge them to donate to charity and make a difference in someone’s life.</blockquote>

Addressing people attending the eighth leg of her national cancer awareness campaign in Marondera, Mashonaland East province, on Saturday, the first lady also added that men should stop having extramarital affairs. Said Mnangagwa:

First lady Auxilia Mnangagwa is set to launch her charity organisation,  Angel of Hope Foundation today (Saturday). The foundation will focus on helping women and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This comes days after the first lady resigned her Chirumanzu-Zibagwe parliamentary seat, to focus on her commitments as the first lady. The foundation’s chairperson Mrs Chipo Mtasa said,

First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has appealed to Government to scrap radiotherapy charges for cancer patients which is currently at $400 per session.
Currently, only Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Mpilo Central Hospital offer radiology treatment. She also called on Government to ensure that cancer screening and treatment facilities are decentralised. Said Mnangagwa:

Zanu-PF National Secretary for War Veterans, War Collaborators, ex-Detainees and Restrictees Victor Matemadanda has showered First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa with praise for stepping down as Chirumanzu-Zibagwe legislator.
In an interview on Saturday, Matemadanda said war veterans welcome Mnangagwa’s announcement as it gives her more time to deal with national issues. Said Matemadanda:

President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced that his wife, Auxilia Mnangagwa has given up her Chirumanzu-Zibagwe National Assembly seat to concentrate on her national duties as First Lady. He was speaking at a Zanu-PF rally in Mvuma.

Mnangagwa's Wife Gives Up Parliamentary Seat

First lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has been commended by the Zimbabwe Medical Association (ZiMA) for choosing to seek health care in Zimbabwe. This was after the first lady underwent cervical cancer screening at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) earlier on today. This contrasts with former first lady Grace Mugabe and her family who always travelled outside the country, even for routine medical check-ups. Speaking at a rally last year, former president Robert Mugabe revealed that his wife had travelled to South Africa for medical treatment after <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2017/08/12/grace-mugabe-south-africa-medical-attention/" rel="noopener" target="_blank">her foot was injured in a minor accident.</a>
The Zimbabwe Medical Doctors Association said that if leaders opted to use local health care services, then there would be a significant improvement in the public health system. Commenting on Twitter, ZiMA said:

First Lady Applauded For Seeking Health Care Locally After Undergoing Cervical Cancer Screening

First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has continued an empowerment programme started by former first lady Grace Mugabe and has donated 3 000 day-old chicks to women in Masvingo.
Mnangagwa promised to donate more chicks to women across Masvingo Province. All the 26 constituencies across Masvingo received about 128 chicks under the first batch of the chicken farming project. Zanu-PF Women’s League deputy secretary for Health and Child Care Namatirai Chivanga yesterday paid tribute to the First Lady for the donation. Said Chivanga:
<blockquote>We are happy with what our Mother has done for us after donating an initial batch of 3 000 chicks that we have since handed over to women in all the 26 constituencies in Masvingo. The chicken rearing project is part of the First Lady’s vision to make sure women are empowered and do not just wait for their husbands to give them something. There is a lot of excitement because some of the beneficiaries will be able to send their children to school with money generated from the project initiated by the First Lady.</blockquote>
