The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Republic_Police/">Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)</a> has arrested a woman who <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/010/07/self-proclaimed-prophetess-on-the-run-after-kidnapping-a-baby/">posed as a prophetess and abducted a client’s one-month-old baby</a> in Mutare. After seeking information from the public, the police arrested Rumbidzai Nyamurowa, also known as Madzimai Getrude, at a residence in Dangamvura, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutare/">Mutare. </a>
In a statement seen by Pindula News, the police said the suspect admitted to kidnapping the baby as a ploy to deceive her husband, who resides in South Africa, into thinking she had given birth. The husband allegedly intended to divorce her due to her inability to conceive. Read the statement:

Reference is made to the ZRP post on X platform on 07/10/23 in which information was being sought to account for a self proclaimed prophetess , Rumbidzai Nyamurowa (28) alias Madzimai Getrude, who kidnapped a baby boy (1 month) during a spiritual healing session on 06/10/23 at a bushy area near Mutare Teachers College. On 09/10/23, detectives in Mutare acted on received information and arrested the suspect at a house in Area 16, Nyamauru, Dangamvura, Mutare. Upon arrest, the suspect confessed that she kidnapped the baby to hoodwink her husband, who is based in South Africa, into believing that she had given birth to the baby. The husband was allegedly harbouring intentions of divorcing her for failing to conceive. Meanwhile, the baby was reunited with his mother.

<h3>Some Context:</h3>
On October 6, 2023, Nyamurowa who was posing as a prophetess kidnapped an ill baby in Mutare at a shrine near Mutare Teachers College. She instructed the baby’s mother to fetch herbs for the baby’s healing and while the mother was away, Nyamurowa took the baby and left. 
<h3>This is not an isolated case</h3>
In Zimbabwe, there are instances where babies are kidnapped for different purposes, including trafficking, rituals, and financial gain. Authorities are encouraging parents and guardians to remain vigilant, take necessary precautions, and report any suspicious activities. It is also essential to educate children about personal safety, staying away from strangers, and using safe travel routes.

Police Arrest Self-proclaimed Prophetess Who Kidnapped A Baby

A businessman from Dangamvura in Mutare who was being intimate with his girlfriend inside a car parked in a maize field was robbed by two assailants who then took turns to rape his lover.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the robbery incident saying detectives are still investigating the case.
The Manica Post quoted a police source handling the case as saying the entrepreneur, who runs several shops in Dangamvura, was having quality time with his girlfriend when the robbers pounced. Said the source:

On the day in question, the businessman picked up his girlfriend from Gimboki and went to a maize field close to Dangamvura Greenmarket and became intimate.
Two unknown assailants approached them and ordered them to surrender their cellphones and cash.
The suspects were armed with Okapi knives and threatened them with death if they resisted.
The businessman was only wearing a pair of trousers which were dropped to knee level, while his girlfriend was only wearing a blouse.
The businessman surrendered his cellphone and US$20. He tried to run away but was pursued by one of the assailants who assaulted him.
The suspect removed his pair of trousers and allowed him to escape naked.
The businessman was picked up by a motorist who ferried him to Dangamvura Police Station to make a report.

The assailants reportedly raped the woman before melting into the darkness. She later walked home alone.
The businessman later went back to the scene in the company of some police detectives.

A 27-year-old Mutare man is battling for life at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital after he was allegedly kidnapped, drugged and sexually abused.
Manica Post reports that the man was kidnapped by two gun-toting women and a male accomplice who drugged and administered an overdose of a sex-enhancing substance on him before sexually abusing him.
The incident happened on Monday at Mukwena Shopping Centre in Dangamvura at a time when the world was commemorating 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
Mutare District Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson, Detective Sergeant Coleen Mbato confirmed the incident. He said:

The complainant left home at night to pick up his wife who was at her aunt’s place in the same suburb. The complainant went to Mukwena Shopping Centre Bus Stop where he boarded a white Mazda Verisa which had three occupants; two women sitting in front and a male who was at the back seat.
</blockquote>
Upon reaching Area 16 turnoff, the driver diverted into a road that goes to Destiny area.
The complainant asked where they were taking him, and the driver told him that she wanted to drop off one of her colleagues. After driving for a short distance, the driver stopped and parked the vehicle at a secluded place along the gravel road towards Dora Business Centre. Added Detective Sergeant Mbato:

The complainant sensed danger and tried to bolt out of the vehicle, but the man who was sitting next to him at the back grabbed him by the waist.
</blockquote>
He said the two scuffled in the motor vehicle until one of the women drew out a pistol from her handbag and threatened to shoot the complainant.

She ordered him to calm down before injecting him with an unknown substance on the right thigh. He became unconscious and does not remember what happened thereafter.
</blockquote>
It is not clear how the complainant got back to Mukwena Business Centre, but he later gained consciousness and narrated his story to a security guard who called the complainant’s relative. 
The complainant was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where it was revealed that he had been sexually abused.
Detectives handling the case revealed that perpetrators of cases of this nature often harvest semen from their victims or draw blood for ritual purposes.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is investigating a case of kidnapping that happened in Dangamvura where a suspected child kidnapper was assaulted by members of the public after being caught in the act.
The police issued a statement warning members of the public against discharging justice on suspected law offenders. Said police in a statement:

Police in Mutare are investigating a case of kidnapping, where a woman approximately 30 years old, snatched a minor (2) today in Dangamvura.
<div>The suspect, who was clad in apostolic white garments, was noticed by an alert neighbour whilst walking away with the baby before she was attacked by members of the public. Meanwhile, the ZRP warns members of the public against meting instant justice.</div>

Cases of child kidnapping and subsequent murder for suspected ritual purposes have been on the rise in Zimbabwe lately.
Last year, the nation was shocked after a seven-year-old Murehwa boy, Tapiwa Makore was murdered for suspected ritual purposes.
Tapiwa’s remains were eventually buried in March this year with some of the body parts still missing.
Another case is of two seven-year-old siblings who were found dead in Nyanga following their disappearance after lessons at Saint Robert Mbaza Primary school.
Their bodies were found a day later with deep cuts on the necks and their uniforms were blood-stained but all their body parts were intact.

Mob Assault Child Kidnapper Caught In The Act In Mutare

A Form 4 pupil at Nyamauru High School in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutare" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mutare</a>, was struck by a bolt of lighting last Friday just after she had finished writing her final Ordinary Level exam.
Manicaland deputy provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the death of Paidamoyo Murepa (16) of Dangamvura high-density suburb. He said:
<blockquote>Paidamoyo was coming from school at around 5 pm. It was raining. She was struck by a lightning bolt and fell on the ground. She had severe burns on her stomach.
Memory Sithole (55) saw her lying on the ground and reported the matter to Dangamvura Police Station. Her body was taken to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutare_Provincial_Hospital" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mutare Provincial Hospital</a>.</blockquote>
Paidamoyo had just called her father, Samuel Murepa, who was coming from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Birchenough_Bridge" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Birchenough Bridge</a> and told him that she was happy because she wrote her exams well and wanted some okra before the fateful incident
She was buried at Dangamvura Cemetery on Monday afternoon.

Form 4 Pupil Struck Dead By Lighting Just After Writing Final Exam

Mutare City Council filed a court case against 756 inhabitants of the Homeless Federation Housing Project II which it won at the magistrates courts in 2012. The council was given the go ahead to destroy the illegal homes in Dangamvura but has been struggling to raise the $300, 000 required even though the area has been declared a health hazard.
During a stakeholders meeting to discuss the allocation of stands to residents urged council to go ahead with its plans even though they say they are too broke to implement the plan. The residents argued that council was setting a bad example to other illegal housing schemes in the city by not destroying the one in Dangamvura.
