The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has set 09 January 2024 as the opening day for Form One classes at public boarding schools.
In a circular seen by <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-form-one-classes-to-begin-january-9-2024">The Sunday Mail</a>, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Moses Mhike, said all heads of boarding schools are expected to abide by the enrolment policy of all boarders seeking Form One placement. He said:

As the ministry strives to remain committed to the provision of quality, affordable, accessible, inclusive and wholesome education for all Zimbabweans, no boarding school is allowed to administer Form One entrance tests.
Due to limited boarding spaces in schools, those pupils who will not be successful on the boarding placement are expected to access education in day secondary schools.
</blockquote>
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said that all learners who wish to enroll at the boarding schools are to register on the ministry’s electronic platform from November 1 to January 15, 2024.
Successful applicants will be notified through text messages by the respective school heads when the 2023 Grade Seven public examination results are released.

Form One Classes At Public Boarding Schools To Begin On 09 January, 2024

The online platform (<a href="http://www.emap.co.zw/" rel="nofollow">www.emap.co.zw)</a> for enrolling Form One boarders for the 2023 First Term is already underway, a government official has said.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/form-one-enrolment-in-progress/">H-Metro</a>, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson, Taungana Ndoro, said parents will be able to make applications on the electronic platform from 1 November to 31 December. He said:

Parents or guardians who wish to send their children to boarding schools are advised to start applying through the e-platform with effect from November 1 up to 31 December 2022.
An applicant, who has been offered a place at one school, will not be eligible to apply or be considered for a place at any other school unless the offer is declined.
All applicants will be allowed to make a maximum of five active applications at any given time.
Successful applicants will be notified through short message service by the respective school heads.
</blockquote>
Once you apply to a school, your application can show any one of the following statuses:
<ul>
<li>Pending – application still under consideration</li>
<li>Accepted – you have been offered a place.</li>
<li>Processed – once a particular school has accepted your Child, all the other outstanding schools’ statuses will automatically be changed to processed.</li>
<li>Rejected – your application was unsuccessful</li>
</ul>
Once you decline an offer, there is no guarantee that you will get the same offer back.

Form One Online Enrolment For 2023 In Progress

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will on Monday, 13 December 2021, open the online application platform for Form One pupils wishing to be enrolled into boarding schools next year.
Under the method, pupils have to apply through the Electronic Ministry’s Application Platform (EMAP) which will open from Monday next week to 31 January 2022.
This was revealed in a circular dated 09 December 2021 and sent to Provincial Education Directors (PEDs), Head Office Directors, District School Inspectors (DSIs), Church education secretaries, President NASH, President NAPH and School Heads, by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Tumisang Thabela. It reads:

The above subject matter refers:
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will be running an electronic platform for enrolling Form One (1) boarding places for 2022.
Parents/guardians who wish to send their children to boarding schools are advised to start applying through the platform (www.emap.co.zw) with effect from 13th December 2021 up to 31st January 2022.
All applicants will be allowed to make a maximum of 5 active applications at any given time.

2022 Form One Online Application Platform Opens On 13 December

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ministry_of_Primary_and_Secondary_Education" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education</a> has opened the online platform (eMAP) for Form One boarding places enrolment for 2020. The Ministry said the platform is open from November 4 to December 31 2019.
Here is how to apply:

<li>Go to <a href="http://emap.co.zw/Form1Enrol/index.php" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">www.emap.co.zw</a></li>
<li>Sign up on the link that is at the bottom that says If you do have an account Sign Up Here.</li>
<li>Enter the centre and candidate number as well as the date of birth using the pupils’ result slip.</li>
<li>You will be redirected to a section that says Please confirm if you have been cleared by your former school and select Yes</li>
<li>Click Next</li>
</ol>
Fill in the details required in this section, that is your mobile number and password of your choice.
An applicant can only apply at five schools and once offered a place in one of the schools, they will not be considered at the other schools.

Speaking in <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Parliament_of_Zimbabwe">Parliament</a> yesterday, Primary and Secondary Education minister <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Dokora">Lazarus Dokora</a> said there are 3 000 Form One boarding places still vacant  and that his ministry will issue a Press release to highlight schools that have vacancies.
Said Dokora:
<blockquote>So far 63% of those that have access to places at boarding schools have gone through the online platform, and we will issue a Press release to highlight schools that have vacancies. He assured Parliament that all the 329 549 pupils who sat for the Grade Seven examinations last year would secure places for Form One.

Dokora says there are still 3 000 vacant Form 1 boarding places

Speaking on <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Star_FM">Star FM</a> on Tuesday night, <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Ministry_of_Primary_and_Secondary_Education">Minister of Primary and Secondary Education</a> Dr <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Dokora">Lazarus Dokora</a> advised parents on what to do if their child fails to get a place at any of the three schools they would have selected.
He said:
<blockquote>As long as all the places in boarding schools are not filled, the students will be given an opportunity to populate the boarding places. If a child fails to secure a place at the three selected schools, they get a chance to choose another set of three schools until they secure a place. However, we will not force parents to choose schools that they don’t want.</blockquote>
He also advised parents having challenges with the system to go to the schools where their children wrote Grade Seven examinations and be assisted:
<blockquote>All schools have the capacity because e-registration started three years ago. Parents can also use their mobile phones to access e-registration or go to the nearest information centres under the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology.</blockquote>
He said the system applies to boarding schools only and said those who opt for day schools can go to preferred schools for registration.

Dokora advises parents on what to do if their child fails to get a place on eMap

The <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Ministry_of_Primary_and_Secondary_Education">Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education</a> has been accused of stealing idea for its <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Electronic_Ministry_Application_Platform_(EMAP)" target="_blank">eMAP online enrolment system</a> by Harare company Purple Divine Technology which says it pitched the idea to the Ministry which in turn went on to use the idea without their approval.
In an interview on national radio station <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Star_FM">Star FM</a> on Tuesday evening, the Minister of Education, Dr <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Dokora">Lazarus Dokora</a> failed to give a explanation when he was asked to respond to allegations laid out in a letter by Purple Divine Technology’s legal representatives Warara and Associates.

Company accuses Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education of stealing idea for eMap enrollment system

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has responded to parents’ concerns over the eMap website which went down over the weekend a day before the first deadline.
Ministry spokesperson Mr Patrick Zumbo said parents must not panic as their children will get form one places anyway. Speaking to The Herald he said:
<blockquote>Parents should not panic over the electronic application platform as their children will eventually get places anyway.</blockquote>
As a result of the website going down a day before the deadline the <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Ministry_of_Primary_and_Secondary_Education">Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education</a> extended the deadline at a yet to be announced date.

Ministry of Primary & Secondary Education responds to parents' concerns after eMap website goes down

Parents who spoke to <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/The_Herald">The Herald</a> said that the newly introduced electronic application system for Form One places is proving problematic and said that they were having difficulties in using the platform as it was frequently down.
A parent, only identified as Mr Mutemasango of Warren Park in Harare said he was worried that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education was telling them that they would get responses starting yesterday when the website was usually down. Another parent, Mr Sivukile Simango, said it was difficult to complete the application process as he had challenges accessing the next page as the system would just indicate that the page has stopped working. Samaita Murandu of Hwedza said that the system disadvantages those in rural areas and argues that Dr Dokora’s ministry should have done consultations with them before introducing the system.
Attempts by The Herald to get comments from Minister Dr <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Dokora">Lazarus Dokora</a>, his deputy Professor <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Paul_Mavima">Paul Mavhima</a> and the Permanent Secretary Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango  yesterday were fruitless.

Parents express frustration after eMap website goes down

The Ministry of Education has extended the dealine for online applications for Form 1 places.  This follows the technical challenges that were being encountered by users. E<a href="http://www.techzim.co.zw/2016/12/ministry-education-extends-deadline-form-1-boarding-school-applications-online-system-faces-challenges/" target="_blank">lectronic Ministry Application Form (EMAP)</a>, the form 1 applications website kept going down. However the new dealine is YET TO BE ANNOUNCED.

Ministry of Education extends deadline for Form 1 application, after system malfunctions

Speaking to The Chronicle, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Lazarus_Dokora">Lazarus Dokora</a> said those who applied through the Electronic Ministry’s Application Platform (eMap) will start receiving sms responses today. He said there are only 24 000 boarding places countrywide.
Dr Dokora yesterday also said since the eMap facility went up on Friday there has been an overwhelming response from parents. Despite the site being down for most of yesterday, Dokora said that the process was running smoothly:
<blockquote>The website has been running since last Friday. To date about 5 500 have applied for boarding school places. It’s going on smoothly.</blockquote>
Dokora reiterated that the eMap facility is for those applying for boarding school places only.  All pupils with a clearance letter from their last school will use the application system.

The Ministry of Education website to enable parents to apply for their children’s Form 1 boarding places is down. According to infromation from various parents, the website has been down for the better part of the day today.
Parents with children looking to get into Form 1 boarding school have been left panicked and stranded after trying to access <a href="http://www.emap.co.zw" target="_blank">www.empa.co.zw</a> and finding that the website will not load at all. The applications window opened yesterday and is closing tomorrow.
It is not clear yet why the website is down but it could be anything from the site itself being faulty technically, to it being overwhelmed by a huge number of parents accessing it at the same time.
The deadline for applications is tomorrow. With so much downtime today, the ministry may be force to extend the deadline for online applications.

Some parents have said however that they were able to make their applications easily on the website before it went down. Some were only able to get some applications in but not all 3 applications that parents need to make in case their first school choice is not successful.
Techzim has said parents contacted them frantically trying to establish the source of the problem, with most of them suspecting that it was their internet connections that were faulty.
Website problems aside, parents have also complained that there was not enough notice from the Ministry of Education on the workings of the new system.
