A Fastjet plane flying from Harare was forced to abort landing in Bulawayo Tuesday morning due to foggy weather.
The Embraer ERJ145 aircraft, which was due to touch down at 6.50 am, was forced to turn back to Harare.
Explaining the failed landing, Fastjet spokesman Nunurai Ndawana said:

The weather conditions were below the required minimum for a landing.
With safety being our top priority, our standard procedure to divert was put into effect and returned to Harare.

The aircraft however took off a second time from Harare and landed safely at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport shortly after 11 am.
The failed landing caused disruption to dozens of passengers and its own flight schedule.
Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport manager Passmore Dewa said he was attending a meeting in Harare, but told ZimLive that the incident was a “normal weather problem”.
Airports in Zimbabwe have had some issues due to outdated infrastructure, limited international flights, lack of investment, security concerns, and flight cancellations by some airlines. 
However, the government is taking steps to improve the situation, including upgrading infrastructure and signing agreements to increase international flights.
According to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/fastjet-plane-aborts-bulawayo-landing-due-to-bad-weather/">ZimLive,</a> Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Airport in Bulawayo does not have an instrument landing system (ILS) – a navigation tool used by pilots to help guide the plane when landing in low visibility conditions. 
ILS works by sending radio signals to the aircraft, providing both horizontal and vertical guidance to help the pilot align the plane with the runway and control its altitude and descent rate during landing.

Fastjet Plane Forced To Abort Landing In Bulawayo

Fastjet Zimbabwe has received the first of three Embraer 120, 30-seater planes.
The Embraer 120 aircraft will be used to operate domestic flights from Harare to Kariba and Hwange National Park.
Both the Harare to Hwange and Kariba routes are expected to begin on 27 March 2023.
In a statement, fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson Nunurai Ndawana said:

Air connectivity is a key enabler for tourism development, and we continue to demonstrate our commitment to the development of tourism in Zimbabwe and the region.

Fastjet Receives Embraer 120 Plane For Domestic Flights

Fastjet Zimbabwe recently announced the intention to commence air services to two new domestic leisure destinations of Kariba and Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.
Commencing late March 2023, Fastjet is set to introduce its new services from Harare and Victoria Falls to Kariba Airport and Hwange National Park Airport.
These planned additional routes to the airline’s domestic network will offer seamless connections for travellers from Harare and Victoria Falls to Zimbabwe’s top domestic tourism destinations of Kariba and Hwange, with scheduled flight connections using Embraer E120, 30-seater turboprop aircraft. Nunurai Ndawana Fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson said:

We continue to demonstrate our commitment to the growth of tourism and the sustainability of air services in the markets we serve. The addition of these leisure destinations will greatly support our vision.

Fastjet Announces Two New Zimbabwe Routes

Fastjet Zimbabwe Thursday said it would be introducing flights to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kariba">Kariba</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hwange">Hwange</a> in March 2023 as it accelerates a long-cherished plan to completely network Zimbabwe.
The regional carrier currently services the Harare-Bulawayo route, along with the Harare-<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Victoria_Falls">Victoria Falls</a> one, among its key regional and domestic destinations.
The award-winning airline will be flying from Harare and Victoria Falls to Kariba Airport and Hwange National Park Airport.

Kariba town, which sits on the east end of the 300km-long Lake Kariba, has been underserved with scheduled flights for many years.
In 2014, Air Zimbabwe returned to the route after abandoning it in 1996 but pulled out within a year.
Early this year, another airline entered the route, but it has since pulled out.
Hwange, another of Zimbabwe’s key tourist destinations, relies mostly on passengers arriving at the nearby Victoria Falls International Airport.
In July, fastjet also introduced flights between Zimbabwe and Botswana to boost tourism in both countries.
This followed another launch in March of a direct flight between Victoria Falls and Mpumalanga in South Africa.

Fastjet Zimbabwe Announce Additional Flights To Hwange And Kariba

Fastjet was recently forced to ground one of its planes after it experienced a bird strike upon landing at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
According to a statement by the company’s Corporate Communications department, the incident contributed to the breakdown of flight schedules and travel disruptions experienced in recent days. Reads the statement:

Earlier this week, one of the airline’s aircraft was involved in a bird strike whilst on its approach into Harare, RG Mugabe International Airport, with damage requiring an outsized replacement part that needed specialised shipping to Harare.
The part was fitted yesterday in accordance with the manufacturer’s approved maintenance procedures.
The aircraft has since returned to regular service today operating the airline’s published timetable.

Fastjet apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the crisis. It said:
<blockquote>
… [the] untimely and unforeseeable bird strike event coincided with one of the airline’s other aircraft being in scheduled maintenance which was planned in accordance with the approved maintenance programme.
These two events meant that both aircraft were out of the airline’s operational fleet simultaneously, necessitating changes to the flying programme.

Fastjet has announced the addition of Maun, Botswana to its route network from its Victoria Falls gateway.
The airline said flights start on the 30th of June 2022. The airline’s statement seen by Pindula News reads:

Fastjet Adds Maun, Botswana To Its Route Network From Victoria Falls Gateway

Low-cost airline, Fastjet Zimbabwe, has added another Embraer ERJ145 aircraft into commercial service in the Southern African country.
The latest 50-seater aircraft was introduced Thursday afternoon.
Posting on their official Twitter handle, Fastjet Zimbabwe said:

Fastjet Adds Another Commercial Aircraft To Zimbabwe

Fastjet Zimbabwe has on Friday hinted that it might be forced to suspend operations at the end of August due to the prevailing business environment.
The airline is at the moment only running limited repatriation flights from South Africa to Zimbabwe, about three times per month. The airline said:
<blockquote>If flight operations do not restart to sustainable levels by the beginning of September or the company is unable to access hard currency from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe through repayment against the company’s historical legacy loans, it will cease to be a going concern.
Therefore, in the event that the company is unable to find alternative solutions before 31 August 2020, then the directors believe the company would be unable to continue trading as a going concern beyond 31 August 2020.</blockquote>
Fastjet wants to resume routine commercial flight operations but requires the permission from the South African and Zimbabwean governments which closed their borders due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The transport and tourism sectors are among the hardest hit by the outbreak of the coronavirus since governments, globally, local and abroad travels were banned.
Stakeholders are urging authorities to find ways to weather the coronavirus storm or find ways to operate during a pandemic.

"The Company Would Be Unable To Continue Trading Beyond 31 August 2020.” - Fastjet

FastJet Zimbabwe has begun the process of repatriating Zimbabwean citizens from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Harare during this lockdown period.
The airliner has released <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/31/fastjet-providing-repatriation-flights-from-johannesburg-to-harare-here-is-how-to-apply/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">a statement</a> about its flights with information for those who wish to apply for a flight back to Zimbabwe.
Below is the experience of a Zimbabwean citizen who returned home aboard a FastJet flight a few days ago:
<blockquote>Good morning everyone
Finally back on home soil! Currently sitting in the sun, reflecting on such good fortune 🙌🏾
This is how things happened yesterday, to help guide future flights:
1. All made our way to the Zim Consulate and met with Desire, working with Fastjet. He read our names from a list and we gave him our completed Port Health forms as he made copies for the government and gave us back our copies. Loaded the bus and went to the airport.
Please ensure you use the surgical type masks from the time you arrive at the consulate until you are off the plane in Harare. The cloth masks are disregarded at this point. We got lucky there was someone on the bus with a whole box so those without were covered – teamwork is huge with Zimbos!
2. Arrive at the airport, stay on the bus as they take our luggage outside the bus. Stand by all your bags as the dogs sniff them. Take bags and start heading into the check-in area
3. As you enter the airport doors, officials take your port health form and your passport to check the 2 against each other and take details. Temperature is taken then you head to the check-in point
4. Passport brought back to you while you wait in line, social distancing all the way, check-in luggage. They sanitized the counter after each person checked in. There was a guy whose sole job was to spray spray spray!
5. Head to the boarding gate, social distancing observed throughout, wait to get on the plane. Lovely crew, we sat with seats skipped between us to observe social distancing. Received bottled water, appreciated.
6. In flight, handed a form to complete for the Zim side documenting travel history in the last 3 weeks I think, and such details. On arrival in Harare, the temperature is taken as you walk in.
7. Complete more forms, much the same type of info, and asked where you will be going to quarantine. If going into government, they wrote that on your firm as you check-in past immigration so they can allocate.
8. Collect your luggage and wait for everyone to meet. Officials address with next steps, those with private accommodation arranged are taken to their places. Those in government quarantine – same. I opted for government quarantine and prayed for weeks that it would be manageable -will follow up with comments on this after the process.
9. No actual test was performed at the airport, it was the only temperature. Even upon arrival at government quarantine, no test. We had a Zincat escort ahead of us from the airport, put on a bus. They were expecting us so staff and rooms were ready to receive us.
Gave names and passport numbers, escorted to rooms and dinner was brought to our rooms. Each has their own room and own bathroom, 3 meals a day, wifi and really nice staff and police guarding outside… good fortune!
10. A nurse will come daily to take temperature and check for symptoms. The test I believe on day 8. We can stand on the balcony but masks on all the time and the preference is for us to remain in our rooms. Had a good night’s sleep.
Unsure process with those in private quarantine upon arrival and beyond, but will check in with someone there. It will be over soon!</blockquote>

FASTJET In Talks To Sell Its Zimbabwean Operations

Fastjet has added a second route from Zimbabwe to South Africa. In a statement, the airline said:
<blockquote>Fastjet plc (“Fastjet” or “the Group”) is pleased to announce the introduction of its new direct route schedule from Bulawayo in Zimbabwe to Johannesburg in South Africa, starting next month.
Fastjet Zimbabwe will begin flying the new route on 5 December 2019 with 22 scheduled flights per week, including double-daily frequencies Monday to Friday and with a single flight operation on Sunday.</blockquote>
Fastjet Chief Executive Officer Mark Hurst commented on the announcement saying that the development will allow business travellers wanting to leave and return home from either Johannesburg or Bulawayo on the same day, a complete full working day each weekday, offering a unique schedule advantage over today’s existing connectivity.
The new route will complement the airline’s four times daily return service from its hub in Harare, Zimbabwe, to Johannesburg.
Passengers now have an option to connect to multiple global destinations on the services of ticketing airline partners Qatar Airways and Emirates or an airline of their choice.

FASTJET Adds Second Route From Zimbabwe To South Africa

In a statement yesterday, Fastjet Chief executive officer, Mr Nico Bezuidenhout, confirmed they will be launching daily flights between Bulawayo and Harare with the first flight scheduled for Friday, 20 July.
He said a special launch fare has been pegged at $59 including tax, and tickets are already on sale at the company’s website, fastjet shops and travel agents. The airline already plies the Harare-Johannesburg route four times daily, Harare-Victoria Falls twice daily and flies between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg up to three times a week.

Fastjet Launches Daily Fights Between Bulawayo And Harare

Fastjet Zimbabwe spokesperson, Faith Chaitezvi. has revealed that music legend, Oliver Mtukudzi will perform on board Fastjet’s flight between Harare and Victoria Falls this Friday.
Mtukudzi will perform tracks off his latest album Hany’ga Concern. Chaitezvi said the performance is part of Fastjet’s promotion of Victoria Falls. Said Chaitezvi:
<blockquote>Passengers travelling on flight FN 8003 this Friday will have front row seats to one of the most intimate Tuku performances staged. We are passionate about promoting domestic and regional tourism to Zimbabwe, and what better way than to leverage innovative events in partnership with a musical legend.</blockquote>
After the flight Tuku will perform at the Elephant Hills Hotel on Saturday 10 March 2018 at 8pm with his band.

Oliver Mtukudzi To Perform In The Sky

Low-cost carrier, fastjet Zimbabwe, has said it can no longer process online payments above $200 using the Zimbabwean Visa or MasterCard, citing the “current” financial cash crisis.
In a post on its website, fastjet Zimbabwe said,
<blockquote>We would kindly inform you that Zimbabwean Visa/Master Cards for online purchases above $200 may not be processed as a result of the current financial situation in Zimbabwe.</blockquote>
The move by fastjet Zimbabwe comes as banks have started limiting the usage of the VISA/MasterCard for local transactions and are only allowing them to be used for foreign transactions. Early this month, BancABC told its clients that Visa/MasterCard would no longer be available for local transactions and instead use ZimSwitch-enabled debit cards..
The <a href="http://www.pindula.co.zw/Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe">Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe</a> has not implemented any regulations on the limited use of Visa/MasterCard for local transactions, with banking sources saying the move was the brainchild of the banks to augment efforts by the regulator in stabilising the nostro accounts.
