The Chitungwiza man accused of killing Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> in June 2022 has alleged police threatened to kill him if he did not admit to the crime, reported <a href="https://www.thestandard.co.zw/news/article/200019427/alis-suspected-killer-says-police-threatened-to-kill-him">The Standard</a>.
<a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Pius Mukand</a><a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">i</a> alias Jamba recently appeared at the High Court in Harare. He testified in his defence that the police, who were handling his case also assaulted him.
Mukandi is accused of callously murdering Ali before chopping her body into pieces and dumping the remains in a disused well in Nyatsime.
He was tracked down to Hurungwe where he was arrested while allegedly selling his grinding mill to get money to flee to Mozambique.
Mukandi told High Court Judge Justice Esther Muremba that he was not in hiding, but had visited his relatives in Hurungwe.
He made the claims in his defence after he was asked by his lawyer Garikayi Mhishi if he was admitting to the murder charge. Said Mukandi:

After staying for two weeks in my rural area, l visited my sister and she told me that there were police officers who had visited looking for me.
She told me that they had visited my homestead but did not find me.
After she told me l then decided to go to the police to enquire why they were looking for me.
When l arrived at the police base they asked me how they could help and l identified myself and told them that l heard that they were looking for me and they said, “Harare police is looking for you”.
l was handcuffed and they took me to a room where l was detained.
After a while, they took me out of the room and told me that Harare police officers were coming to take me.
When the police officers arrived they disembarked from their vehicle and l was then surprised when the officers said, “You got us this murderer”.

Mukandi said the police told him that he was lucky he handed himself in otherwise if he had been found at home he would have been shot.
He further claimed that the police officers kept threatening to kill him if he did not admit to the crime.
Mukandi claimed police officers forced him to rehearse a statement where he confessed to killing Ali. He said:
<blockquote>
They told me that l should not deny what l did because social media was awash with information on what l did and people were fighting because of that incident.
They said they were in a position to assist me if l listened to them.
They said if I failed to cooperate with them l was going to be taken and killed.

He said the witnesses who testified for the state said he was wearing a yellow T-shirt on the night Ali was last seen at Chibhanguza nightclub, yet he was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.
He said the T-shirts and jeans were recovered by the police and were never submitted in court as exhibits.
Mukandi told Chief Prosecutor Michael Mugabe that he was forced to admit to the crime.
Justice Muremba reserved her ruling to 16 November.

Moreblessing Ali Suspected Killer Says Police Threatened To Kill Him

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a>, the national spokesperson of the opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> has said <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala’s</a> continued incarceration is a dark stain on Zimbabwe’s democracy.
She made the remarks hours after Harare regional magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa Thursday ruled the Zengeza West Member of Parliament has a case to answer on charges of obstructing or defeating the course of justice.
Sikhala is being accused of hindering police investigations into the murder of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> and the violence that ensued in the Nyatsime area in June 2022. 
Sikhala was arrested following the violence and has as of 17 March 2023 spent 276 days at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison. The courts have denied him bail on numerous occasions. 
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Mahere said bail is a constitutional right. She said:

Delivering judgement after the Sikhala applied for discharge at the close of the State’s representations Mrs Gofa said the lawmaker who is awaiting trial has a case to answer.
The magistrate said evidence before her, so far, shows that the politician has some explaining to make.
The CCC party says Sikhala’s detention is political in nature as it is aimed at frustrating the opposition party’s 2023 election campaign.

Sikhala's Continued Incarceration A Dark Stain On Our Democracy - Mahere

Zengeza West Member of Parliament (MP), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a>, has reiterated that he is prepared to be killed for defending the values and principles of a free and open democratic society, exuding happiness, free of impunity and fear.
Sikhala has been in prison since June 2022 when he was arrested and charged with inciting public violence which erupted during the funeral wake of slain Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali. </a>
In his New Year message seen by Pindula News, Sikhala who is the CCC deputy national chairperson said the democratic space has been shrinking in Zimbabwe reminding of the precolonial era when there were gross violations of human rights. We present the letter below:

Beloved Zimbabweans!
Happy New Year Dear Compatriots:
I sincerely congratulate and wish you all, Dear Compatriots, a happy and prosperous 2023. Let us all thank the Almighty God for his grace in taking us all into the new year. We thank you Lord for your eternal love.
Dear Zimbabweans, it is with regret and most unfortunate that I now share with you, a personal issue that I have kept to myself for the past three weeks. It is something that I did not share with anyone and kept to myself for these past 3 weeks. I had kept it to myself for the sake of my children and my wife. I know how much it will affect them.
I have not been feeling well for the past three weeks. A pain that started mildly on the left side of my abdomen has steadily grown to be extremely heavy and excessive by each passing day. There is some painful strike that exudes itself from the left side which I don’t really understand and do not know what it is. I pray that it is not colon cancer. It is worrying me very seriously.
Since the day I vomited and had a ceaseless running stomach, some time ago, which was widely reported, the prison authorities refused to allow my doctor to attend to me. This is despite the fact that my doctors came several times in the company of my lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa and Doug Coltart. Since then, I have stopped requesting the permission of my doctor to attend to me. The pain is severe during the night especially when I sleep by that left side. I ask all of you dear Zimbabweans, to pray for me to be healed of this pain. There is nothing beyond the cure of God.
I know the year 2022, like all the years of the past decade, has been catastrophic to all of us. The economic decay and the suffering of the general masses of our people has reached tragic levels. There has also been:
 • closure, completely, of all the democratic space in the country, 
• sharp growth of impunity, 
• arbitrary arrests
 • escalation in human rights abuses, which has resulted in some of us becoming long-term guests at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in extremely curious circumstances, 
• the passage of oppressive laws, similar in nature and context to those administered by Ian Douglas Smith’s Rhodesia and apartheid South Africa. 
• The use and application of terror and violence as instruments of political coercion witnessed during the past by-elections, the barring of CCC political races in various places.
<h2>Our country is in a crisis!</h2>
Freedom of expression has been completely shut down. Any criticism of the government is viciously crushed. What I know is that the world will not allow you to perish on your own dearest Zimbabweans. From the SADC region, voices of reason shall emerge. The African Union, United Nations and all outposts of democracy shall speak out in defense of our people under siege. I understand you might be outside, and I am inside, but our suffering and pain is the same. We are all under attack. What is happening to me today may happen to you tomorrow.
As for me dear compatriots, it is both in the public and world glare that I am going through the persecution of century, over spurious, if not bizarre allegations. It’s now almost seven months and the choreographed script plays on. As I always alluded, I am prepared to be killed.
What I stood for was correct both on earth and in heaven. Moreblessing All was a woman, viciously kidnapped and brutally murdered. I was instructed by her family to be their lawyer. I am proud for having represented their interests to the best of my abilities. If I am killed dear compatriots, I am prepared to meet the fate in defense of values and principles I hold dearly; values of a free and open democratic society, exuding happiness, free of impunity and fear.
Even if I die, dear Zimbabweans, my persecution has taught me two important stations someone should pass through in life to understand and appreciate the true circle of life. One is college and the other is prison. College takes you through the interactive journey of intellectual discourse and acquisition of knowledge to equip you and enable you to cope with the challenges of today and tomorrow. It links you to the consistency of solid acquaintances who will in the future, stand in your corner come rain or sunshine, whatever difficult trial or tribulation, no matter how seemingly insurmountable. It reveals to you that knowledge alone is inadequate if it doesn’t locate within you, humility and empathy. It is a social construct. It links life with the needs and demands of the general masses of the people.
Prison teaches one the injustices and cruelty of the wicked. It opens up the mind to understand how power can be used irresponsibly to inflict maximum pain to the innocent and the powerless. Prison is the uppermost university that taught me that, those who hold power should learn to exercise their authority without an ounce of arrogance, aggression or force. The tough conditions here at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison have taught me to strengthen mastery over emotions. Many leaders tend to be conceited and arrogant when they grow to have power over millions. Many men have faced adversity, but if you truly wish to test the character of a man, give him power and thereafter watch the theatrics.
With respect, prison teaches one to distinguish real and true friends on the one hand and hypocrites on the other. It opened me and exorcised from me some fallacies and falsehoods I had about some people around me. It made discover that my sincere, genuine and eternal friends are the masses and peoples of Zimbabwe, cutting across all classes and professions, domestically and in the diaspora. The passion of their roars and bellows I hear on a daily basis, is amazing and extra-ordinary. A million kisses of love my dearest friends. Your sharing of pain with me is historic.
Genuine friends are seen by the sweat of their efforts, to fight on the side of their cornered friend. The vociferous voices of clamor in every village, township, growth point, town or city in Zimbabwe is being heard echoing every day. Those in all the far corners of the world have demonstrated unmatched support and empathy over the suffering of one their own. Thank you good people!
<h2>What does it take to stand with your friend?</h2>
The University of Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison has revealed to me treacherous hypocrites, sell outs, colluders with my persecution, opportunists trying to capitalize on the predicament of the moment for cheap political and financial gain from my tormentors. Some wished me dead. I am sick. Please, they must then pray for my death. Some plotted schemes to destroy me by spreading false intelligence given to them by their handlers and are dabbling in rumor-mongering and get into deals to the extent of carrying poisoned food to deliver it with a friendly smile. I am aware of all their shenanigans.
Unjust incarceration also taught me who the real true friends of the people of Zimbabwe are. Nations who stand for the truth and uprightness are seek speaking fearlessly against unjust persecution. I would like to thank them all.
Prison also taught me the role of the progressive and fearless fourth estate in contrast to urging and abetting impunity. Domestically and internationally the voices of the progressives are expounded with clarity.
My dear friends, I thank you all.

"I'm Prepared To Be Killed" - Sikhala's New Year Message

Job Sikhala Junior, the son of jailed Zengeza West Member of Parliament, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a> has described his father’s prolonged detention as “cruelty”
He made the remarks while speaking on South African broadcaster SABC News. 
Sikhala was arrested in June on charges of inciting public violence which erupted during the funeral wake of his deceased client and opposition party member, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a>, who was killed by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Pius Mukandi</a>, a man linked to ZANU PF.
He is now clocking six months at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chikurubi_Maximum_Security_Prison">Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison</a> and over the past months, has been denied bail over 10 times, while all his other co-accused have been granted. Job Jnr said:

It is difficult for us to accept that we do not have our father, we cannot believe that he has been incarcerated by this military regime for over 190 days now. It is hard for us to accept this kind of cruelty.
It has been hard on us because Sikhala has 16 children who need to be fed, who need school fees and other expenses. We are surviving on well-wishers who have been giving us money and fuel coupons to visit him because we cannot afford.

Sikhala, who is also caused of obstructing the course of justice, claims his imprisonment is politically motivated adding that the ruling party is afraid his political influence could result in its loss at next year’s elections. He spoke from Chikurubi Prison:

I have prepared myself for a long stay and am ready to stay until the cows come home. This is just an attempt to delay the inevitable, a Zanu PF loss. I am willing to be here until the end.
</blockquote>
Sikhala will most likely spend Christmas in jail.
His next court appearance is set for December 29.

"It's Hard For Us To Accept This Kind Of Cruelty,” Job Sikhala Jnr On His Father's Detention

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for political tolerance among politicians ahead of the 2023 elections.
He made the call while delivering his State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the new multimillion-dollar six-story Parliament building gifted by China. He said:

Political players, seeking the people’s mandate during the upcoming 2023 elections must maintain and consolidate the peace, unity, harmony and love that we have built under the second republic. Violent confrontations have never been part of our culture.
</blockquote>
Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold harmonised elections sometime in 2023.
Reports of intra-party and interparty violence have been rising since March this year when by-elections were held for several posts that were vacant.
The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change led by Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services claims that the ruling ZANU PF has been attacking and murdering its people to intimidate them ahead of elections.
One of the unresolved cases is that of slain CCC activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> who was abducted and killed earlier this year.
Her remains are yet to be buried amid reports that her family is in hiding following threats from suspected ZANU PF members.
Mnangagwa’s remarks come after some of his lieutenants, including former Minister of State Security, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Owen_Ncube">Owen Ncube</a>, threatened that <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/owen-ncube-threatens-worse-than-2008-political-violence-against-sell-outs/">2023 could be worse than 2008.</a>
In 2008, the ruling ZANU PF in collaboration with state security forces allegedly attacked and killed several opposition MDC members in the run-up to the run-off election.
Analysts have warned the 2023 poll could be one of the disputed elections if violence continues to escalate.

SONA: President Mnangagwa Calls For Political Tolerance Ahead Of 2023 Elections

Detained Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) deputy chairperson, Job Sikhala, has said he is okay with the ruling ZANU PF keeping him in prison.
Sikhala has been in jail since his arrest in June for allegedly inciting public violence which erupted on 14 June during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.
He told NewZimbabwe that ZANU PF was deliberately keeping him jailed out of fear his political influence and capacity to mobilise might ensure victory for the opposition party in the 2023 elections. 
The Zengeza West Member of Parliament (MP) said during an interview:

ZANU PF is afraid of releasing me. They know doing that before next year’s elections will definitely cement their loss at the polls. They know my capacity.
There should not be any doubt or fear for me here, I am comfortable with them keeping me here. It gives me more time to teach comrades being kept here about the Zimbabwean situation.
I have prepared myself for a long stay and am ready to stay until the cows come home. This is just an attempt to delay the inevitable, a Zanu PF loss.

Sikhala Says He's OK With ZANU PF Keeping Him At Chikurubi Prison

Jailed Zengeza West legislator, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a>, has released a statement to mark his 50th birthday saying he is strengthened by the fact that some prominent politicians also celebrated their birthdays in prison. In a statement seen by Pindula News, Sikhala who is detained at  <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chikurubi_Maximum_Security_Prison">Chikurubi Maximum Prison</a> said Zimbabwe is continuously degenerating into poverty because the old generation is clinging to medieval politics. Sikhala was arrested in June and charged with inciting public violence which erupted during the funeral wake of slain Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali.</a> Through lawyer Freddy Masarirevu who is his family and personal spokesman, Sikhala said:

50 years ago, on the 30th of October 1972, in the village of Masema in Gutu, Sophia Mugari and Adrew Sikhala procreated Job. It is this great day which I am celebrating today under incarceration and trepidation in Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison. This has been made so not because I am a criminal. I am being denied my liberty together with my colleagues here and being persecuted for my deep beliefs and values in the freedom and happiness of our people. Human life is sacrosanct. Moreblessing Ali’s life was as treasury as everyone’s life. I am happy to suffer for that good. 
Today, my daughter, Monalisa, would have baked a special birthday cake for her dad. My wife Ellen would have made five more to share with the good people of Zengeza West, Chitungwiza in general, and hundreds of colleagues from all over Zimbabwe. Usually, it is a huge gathering event for me, my family, and friends. Evil plotters conspired to ruin my special day and this happy moment by their obsession with persecuting my person. Congratulations to them all for getting satisfaction from this facade of a charade. 
What gives me utmost happiness is that I am not the first and will not be the last political prisoner to celebrate their birthdays under persecution from an evil dictatorship. History is awash with such personalities. Nelson Mandela celebrated 27 consecutive birthdays in prison; <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Dumiso_Dabengwa">Dumiso Dabengwa</a> 7,<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lookout_Masuku"> Lookout Masuku</a> 7, Bakili Muluzi 10, Raila Odinga 10, and many other good men and women of upright standing. 
Last month, I heard someone celebrated their 80th birthday —30 years older than me. I am the age of his 3rd born child. Persecuting a child for a difference in political views and beliefs is as preposterous as it comes.
Elders in our country have played a major role in liberating our beloved country. I have unquestionable respect for their profound role. However, the needs and demands of today call for new thinking and ideas which are in tandem with the modem 21st Century, to catch up with rapid changing times. There is need of urgent political and economic reforms in our country which the old generation is refusing to relent. Times change. Our Country is the odd one, not only in the region but in the whole world without a functioning industry. The only one with the Government as the largest employer, “salarying” its employees slave wages. 
This has been justified through a big lie. Countries which are frequently touted did not develop through archaic politics. There were extensive political and economic reforms in the Soviet Union and China to re-engineer their lives to move with the times. Mikhail Gorbachev was brave to bring perestroika and glasnost and dump Stalin and Brezhnev’s insanity. Deng Xiaoping dumped Mao’s cultural revolution and cult of personality politics and fostered both economic and political reforms to move with the changing times. Our great nation is daily drifting towards the stone age era. The cause is the old generation that is clinging to the Stalinist and Maoist traditions of medieval politics. We will not relent in calling for the release of our country from the jaws of the kleptocratic looting brigade of today. 
My wife had baked me a cake, but they refused to let her deliver it to me. I am not surprised. Today, I will toast water and share the love of the people of Zimbabwe with Hon. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Sithole">Godfrey Sithole</a> and the rest of the inmates.

Birthday In Prison: Sikhala Says Nelson Mandela Celebrated 27 Years In Prison

Opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa has reported that prison authorities denied the wife and family of detained Job Sikhala from delivering a birthday cake to him.
The Zengeza West Member of Parliament who turns 50 years today has been in prison since June after he was arrested and charged with inciting public violence which erupted in Nyatsime during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist, Moreblessing Ali.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, Chamisa described Sikhala, popularly known as Wiwa, as “the citizens’ hero.” He said:

Today Hon @JobSikhala1 turns 50. Sadly, I’ve just heard from his wife that they had baked a bday cake for him but Prison authorities denied the family the opportunity to have the cake delivered to him in prison. Join me in wishing the citizens’ hero a happy birthday. God bless Wiwa!

Sikhala and fellow legislator, Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North) as well as 16 other Nyatsime residents have on several occasions <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/job-sikhala-denied-bail-a-sixth-time/">been denied bail.</a> 
Sikhala, an <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/MDC_Alliance">MDC Alliance</a> MP, is accused of obstructing justice for allegedly recording a video threatening the murderers of CCC activist Moreblessing Ali.
He is also charged with inciting public violence under the same facts.

Prison Authorities Block Family From Delivering Birthday Cake To Detained Job Sikhala

The government claims Zengeza West MP, Job Sikhala (CCC), who has been in pre-trial detention for more than 100 days on allegations of inciting violence, violated past bail conditions, thereby resulting in the courts rejecting his new bail applications.
The outspoken lawmaker is said to have been arrested 67 times but has no single conviction. He has been denied bail five times by the courts in the current case.
Sikhala, Chitungwiza North MP, Godfrey Sithole, and other CCC activists from Nyatsime were arrested on 14 June 2022 after attending the funeral of political activist Moreblessing Ali.
Ali was brutally murdered and her remains were dumped in a disused well and were only discovered three weeks after she had gone missing.
Responding to questions in the Senate on Thursday from Senators who wanted to know how the government was handling the matter, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi, said:

… my understanding is that you are on bail on a specific case and there are conditions that are attached to that.
If you violate your bail conditions then the bail will not be granted should you commit another offence. That is a general principle.
The individual so concerned, my understanding which I just read, not to say that I was schooled by the Judiciary from going to ask about judicial decision but that is not my duty; the decision of the courts was on the basis of the fact that bail was granted, bail conditions were violated and that is the reason to deny bail.
… When we are in court, sometimes as politicians, we must refrain from abusing the courts for political expediency.

Ziyambi Says Sikhala Has Been Denied Bail Because He Violated Previous Bail Conditions

Zengeza West Member of Parliament (MP), Job Sikhala was together with Chitungwiza North MP, Godfrey Sithole denied bail for the fifth consecutive time when they appeared before a Harare Magistrate this Wednesday.
 Sithole and Sikhala had applied for bail arguing that circumstances had changed.
Harare Magistrate Taurai Manuwere, however, denied them bail saying there are no changed circumstances to warrant the duo getting bail.
They are facing charges of inciting public violence which erupted in Nyatsime on 14 June during the funeral wake of slain Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Moreblessing Ali.
They were arrested in June together with 14 other Nyatsime residents and have been in jail since then. 
Another Nyatsime resident was arrested last week over the same incident while other accused persons are said to be on the run.
The CCC party led by Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services during the Government of National Unity (GNU) says its members are political detainees.

Sikhaka, Sithole Denied Bail For A 5th Consecutive Time

The opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has claimed that its member, Felix Biri was on Thursday 29 September 2022 kidnapped by ZANU PF members in Nyatsime.
In a statement see by Pindula News, the party led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a>, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services during the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Government_of_National_Unity">Government of National Unity (GNU)</a> said its security team was seized with the matter. Reads the statement:

ALERT: We have received a report that CCC member, Felix Biri has been kidnapped by Zanu PF members in Nyatsime this afternoon. He has been taken to a base where he’s being beaten by these thugs. Our security team is currently on its way to secure his release.
</blockquote>
This is one of many abduction cases which the party has reported in recent years.
The opposition and some human rights defenders claim that the government is responsible for many kidnappings in the country.
Meanwhile, the government has previously denied the accusations blaming “a third force” conducting the alleged abductions to soil its image.
The government also reckons the opposition stage the abductions to gain political mileage.
Some of the people alleged to have been abducted by state security operatives are <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Itai_Dzamara">Itai Dzamara</a> (a journalist), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Joana_Mamombe">Joana Mamombe</a> (an MP), <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Cecilia_Chimbiri">Cecilia Chimbiri</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Netsai_Marova">Netsai Marova</a>, Moreblessing Ali and now <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/02/17/when-i-was-discharged-i-thought-i-was-well-human-rights-defender-on-after-effects-of-abduction/">wheelchair-bound</a> human rights defender<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tatenda_Mombeyarara"> Tatenda Mombeyarara</a>.
Dzamara was allegedly kidnapped by suspected state security agents on the 9th of March in 2015, his whereabouts are not known since then. 
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a>, a CCC activist from Nyatsime was kidnapped in May this year and her mutilated body was discovered in a disused well weeks later. Her killer, Pius Mukandi alias Jamba, alleged to be a ZANU PF member, was arrested. 
Nyatsime has become a warzone since Ali’s death.

Felix Biri Has Been Kidnapped By ZANU PF Members In Nyatsime - CCC

The opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change</a>‘s Southend branch has claimed that Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operatives are following and intimidating the children of slain CCC activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali.</a>
In a post on Twitter this Thursday, the party said:

We are disturbed to hear slain #CCC activist #MoreblessingAli’s grieving children are being followed &amp; intimidated by @edmnangagwa’s Central Intelligence Organisation operatives. This is a despicable corrupt use of state resources. Is it not enough that you killed their mum?

<h2>Some context:</h2>
Moreblessing Ali went missing on 24 May 2022 after she had been kidnapped by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Pius Mukandi,</a> alias <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Jamba</a>, at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre in Nyatsime.
Her mutilated body was found in a disused well on 11 June. 
Jamba who is believed to be a ZANU PF member was arrested in Hurungwe five days after the discovery of Ali’s body at his mother’s plot.
Moreblessing’s body is yet to be buried with her family demanding that their lawyer, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a>, be released first.
Sikhala, who was at the forefront in demanding justice for Moreblessing, was arrested alongside Chitungwiza North member of Parliament Godfrey Sithole and 14 other CCC activists over the violence which erupted during Moreblessing Ali’s funeral wake.

CIO Operatives Reportedly Following And Intimidating Moreblessing Ali's Children

Opposition <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> national spokesperson, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Fadzayi_Mahere">Fadzayi Mahere</a> has accused the ZANU PF government of weaponising the law to attack political opponents.
She speaks as dozens of CCC activists including Members of Parliament <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a> (Zengeza West) and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Godfrey_Sithole">Godfrey Sithole</a> (Chitungwiza North) are in jail for “political reasons” according to their party.
They were arrested in June over the 14 June Nyatsime violence that erupted during the funeral wake of slain CCC activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a>.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, advocate Mahere said the detentions were a sign that the ZANU PF government was “dying.” She said:

Say their names. Detention without trial has no place in a democratic society. Silencing opponents by throwing them in jail is the biggest sign of a dying regime. Stop weaponizing the law to attack political opponents.
</blockquote>
Critics say the arrests are meant to silence the opposition.
Meanwhile, the ruling party has always denied the allegations saying the judiciary is independent.
A few weeks ago, constitutional expert and leader of the opposition<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/National_Constitutional_Assembly"> National Constitutional Assembly (NCA)</a>, Professor <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Lovemore_Madhuku">Lovemore Madhuku</a>, claimed that Sikhala and colleagues were <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/09/06/madhuku-says-sikhala-sithole-nyatsime-activists-are-victims-of-their-parties-refusal-to-dialogue-with-ed/">victims of their party’s refusal to dialogue with president Emmerson Mnangagwa.</a>
His remarks were viewed, by the CCC, as proof that Sikhala was a political prisoner.

Mahere Says Govt Should "Stop Weaponizing The Law To Attack Political Opponents"

Chitungwiza residents staged a flash demonstration on Friday demanding the release of detained Zengeza West Member of Parliament (MP) Job Sikhala.
The demonstration was held about 300 metres from Chitungwiza Central Police Station, where a multitude gathered, blocking roads, chanting and holding placards.
Sikhala was arrested in June together with a fellow legislator, Godfrey Sithole, and 14 Nyatsime residents activists for allegedly inciting the 14 June violence which erupted during the funeral wake of slain Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, Moreblessing Ali.
They have been in prison since then with courts denying them bail.
One protestor told <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/job-sikhalas-continued-detention-sparks-protest-chitungwiza-residents-demand-release-of-nyatsime-16/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>:

Today marks the beginning and end of a tyrannical, satanic, dictatorial regime by Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Our message is very clear since day one, we now want to take this message to the doorstep of Chitungwiza Magistrate Courts because our fight is not only with this oppressive regime but it must be sent again to the judiciary system.
</blockquote>
The opposition party led by Nelson Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services during the Government of National Unity (GNU) claims that President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the judiciary are weaponising the law for political expediency. 
The president was recently petitioned to ensure the release of the detained political activists.

Sikhala's Continued Detention Spark Protests In Chitungwiza

Jeremiah Bhamu, the lawyer of jailed Zengeza West Member of Parliament, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala">Job Sikhala</a> has accused the court of altering its order to disadvantage his clients.
Bhamu made the claim after magistrate Taurai Manuwere dismissed an application to have deputy prosecutor-general Michael Reza and prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/beatrice-mtetwa-calls-for-the-arrest-of-prosecutors-micheal-reza-and-lancelot-mutsokoti/">charged for contempt of court.</a>
<a href="https://newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200000302/court-doctors-its-order-to-prejudice-sikhala-lawyer">NewsDay Zimbabwe</a> reports that the application was made by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Beatrice_Mtetwa">Beatrice Mtetwa</a> on behalf of Sikhala and his co-accused Godfrey Sithole.
Mtetwa and Bhamu, who are taking instructions from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum and Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, wanted Reza and Mutsokoti charged for defying an order to furnish the defence with State papers on the case.
The order was made by magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka on August 18.
Sikhala and Sithole want the State papers to allow them to prepare for the trial that has been set for November 21. Bhamu said the court could have doctored its papers to prejudice his clients. Bhamu said:

The written order with no timelines was erroneously written as it is different from what the court said that day.
An examination of the electronic record which captures what happened, if properly examined, states that the State was supposed to provide the papers at the end of day on August 18.
.. Mutsokoti (…) admitted that he was aware of the directive directing the furnishing of State papers by close of business on August 18. He confirmed that that was actually what the court ordered.

Friday, Bhamu said the court should order Mutsokoti to provide him with the papers on September 12.
Manuwere said he will rule on Bhamu’s application for the court to set new timelines. The magistrate said he wanted to find out if the court had the powers to do so.

Sikhala’s Lawyer Accuses The Court Of Altering Its Order To Disadvantage The Jailed MP

Silent Ali, the son of murdered Moreblessing Ali has said he has received messages of termination of employment.
Silent who is in hiding after receiving threats during the wake of his mother’s funeral wake said he was an employee at Chitungwiza Municipality and last reported for work three months ago.
His mother’s remains are yet to be buried several weeks after they were recovered in a disused well in June.
The family now fears that evidence is being tampered with and that they might be given the wrong remains for burial within a space of two months.
Twenty-four-year-old Silent says since the day Moreblessing was reported missing on May 24, his life has never been the same.
Ali was abducted in Nyatsime, Manyame and her mutilated remains were recovered from a disused well at the homestead of her alleged killer Pius Mukandi’s mother at Dunnottar Farm on June 11.
She was a known opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist in Nyatsime.
Following the violence that ensued at her funeral wake, the mourners were forced to abandon Moreblessing’s Nyatsime home.
Her family’s lawyer, Job Sikhala, and other CCC members were arrested and charged with inciting public violence which erupted during the funeral wake. Silent said:

I can’t explain the pain that I am feeling.
The pain is not fading. Whenever I see her pictures, I feel weak.
At times, I don’t eat,” Silent told The Standard from his hiding place.
I don’t deny that people die but the way some die is painful. My mother will never rest given the way she died.
It’s not easy to lose someone who brought you up. She was my pillar of strength.
She was into vending until 2007 when she got a job at council.
We lived a painful life which cannot be explained. Our father didn’t care about how we survived. He did not support her…
We are not safe and we are scared of coming out of hiding because we receive numerous anonymous calls from people asking about our whereabouts.
The Nyatsime violence scared us and we deserted our home.  We were helped to move our property at night.
I last reported for work three months ago and received messages of termination of employment. I worked at  the Chitungwiza Municipality.

He said the family last saw his mother’s body at Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary before it was taken by detectives for further DNA investigations.
Silent said the family will not rest until they find closure. He expressed the fear that they might be given the wrong body.
Silent said they were pinning their hopes on Sikhala’s release from prison so that he can take up the case.
Pius Mukandi alias Jamba confessed to killing Ali when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

Moreblessing Ali's Son Who Fled From Home Says He Has Been Fired From Work

Zimbabweans living abroad are concerned about the rising number of victims of forced disappearance linked to politics in the country.
Groups of diasporans including Vigil, have vowed to put renewed pressure on regional, continental and international bodies to bring President Emmerson Mnangagwa to account for every missing person and bring perpetrators to justice.
The focus is currently on the case of slain <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_Ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> whose decomposing and mutilated body was found in Nyatsime, Mashonaland East days after she went missing.
A Diasporan community representative, Patson Muzuwa, said suspected <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">ZANU PF</a> officials accused of killing and injuring opposition supporters have heightened threats on Ali’s family. It is also feared that the suspected killer, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Pius Mukandi</a> alias <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Jamba</a> might not be prosecuted and jailed. Muzuwa told <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/diasporans-demand-justice-for-forced-disappearance-victims-in-zimbabwe/">NewZimbabwe:</a>

Moreblessing’s family might not see justice in Zimbabwe. We have seen the ruthless regime eliminating key figures in the Nyatsime area who have been vocal and claiming to be close allies of her. They have since been having sudden and unexplained deaths.
We thank the people in the diaspora who are keeping the momentum by filing petitions, staging demonstrations and maintaining a heavy presence on social media counter-attacking Zanu-pf myths and theories.
It is sad that elections are at the corner and we are seeing the repeat of 2018 violence and intensification of the arrest of opposition activists, who are already victims of arson and beatings and the perpetrators, mostly known ZANU PF thugs, walk freely.
The justice system is captured by the ruling party and perpetrators might not face the music.
We will never see closure on the case of Moreblessing just like the cases of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tonderai_Ndira">Tonderai Ndira</a>, Nambanyama,<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Itai_Dzamara"> Itai Dzamara</a>, Edison Mukwasi and others. We will keep alerting the international community on the human rights violations in Zimbabwe, hoping one day action will be taken and justice served

The grouping of Zimbabweans in the diaspora has vowed to push for justice by repeatedly, taking petitions to 10 Downing Street, the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU) offices.
The protestors and counter-activists include; Shepherd Yuda, Blessing Goronga, Karimanzira, Chief Ndiweni, Vimbai Mamombe, Evelyn Chibanda, Zvorwadza, Paradzai Mapfumo, Hilda Makechemu, Nastancia Darabani, Lawrence Manyeza, Joseph Jabangwe, among others.
Authorities claim the said abductions are staged by “enemies of the state” to soil the image of the Mnangagwa-led administration.

Zimbabweans In Diaspora Concerned Over Rising Number Of "Abductions" Linked To Politics

Police in Marondera are reported to have summoned four <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> activists following violence that erupted in Nyatsime, Beatrice last week Tuesday.
The violence erupted at the memorial service of slain CCC activist, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> and spread into the neighbouring homes. 
According to the main CCC party which is led by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nelson_Chamisa">Nelson Chamisa</a>, the four, Misheck Guzha, Audious Makoma, Precious Jeche and Felix Biri have been summoned by Marondera police’s Law and Order division. The party said in a statement on Sunday:

CCC champions Misheck Guzha, Audious Makoma, Precious Jeche &amp; Felix Biri have been summoned to attend at Law &amp; Order Marondera. Their homes were burnt by Zanu PF thugs following the memorial prayer service for Moreblessing Ali who was murdered in cold blood by Zanu PF.

Meanwhile, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_-_Patriotic_Front">ZANU PF</a> claims that CCC some activists burnt the homes of ruling party supporters. Witnesses said this was after ZANU PF officials had blocked CCC supporters from attending the memorial service of their colleague where Chamisa was the main speaker. 
Ali’s suspected killer <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Pias Mukandi</a> alias <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Pius_Jamba">Jamba</a> was brought to court last week and remanded in custody.

"Police Summon Four CCC Activists Over Nyatsime Violence" CCC Party

Pias Mukandi, alias Jamba, killed the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change">Citizens Coalition for Change</a> activist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Moreblessing_ali">Moreblessing Ali</a> following a row over US$5 that he allegedly lost at a bar, a court heard on Saturday.
It has been established that Mukandi was not Ali’s ex-boyfriend, as previously claimed by police which is trying to refute any political motive for the killing.
Mukandi, 31, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with Ali’s murder. He was remanded in custody to July 11 and advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
Tapuwanashe Zvidzai, for the National Prosecuting Authority, told the court that events leading to Ali’s abduction outside Chibhanguza bar in Nyatsime on May 24, and her subsequent murder, emanated from Mukandi misplacing US$5 before he accused patrons in the bar of stealing from him.
The court also heard that Ali had gone to the bar with her dog and a friend, Kirina Mariyoni, according to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/2022/06/missing-5-kicked-off-events-leading-to-alis-death-npa/">ZimLive.com.</a>
The prosecution says while demanding his money back from the patrons, Mukandi became irritated by Ali’s dog and words were exchanged.
Moments later, Mariyoni emerged from the bar to find Ali on the ground with Mukandi standing over her.
Mukandi allegedly threw stones at the bar and hit Mariyoni on the chin with a catapulted stone forcing her to retreat back inside.
Zvidzai added that Mukandi then dragged Ali to an unknown place where he struck her “with an unknown instrument with the intention to cause her death.” 
The alleged killer, who is a brother to the Nyatsime ZANU PF chairman Simba Chisango, finally strangled Ali with her own pair of trousers, the court heard.
Mukandi went away and returned with a knife which he used to cut Ali up into three pieces. He then allegedly took the body parts to Dunnotar Farm in Beatrice where he put them in a sack and threw them into a disused well at the home of his mother, Laina Mukandi.
It was Laina who discovered Ali’s remains on June 11 after her son went on the run.
Mukandi was arrested on June 16 in the Chidamoyo area of Hurungwe in Mashonaland West, his mother’s rural home. He was allegedly trying to sell a grinding mill with a plan to skip the country either to Mozambique or Zambia.
