Tapiwa Makore’s father, Munyaradzi Makore, who was a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for a council seat in rural Murewa in the 23 August 2023 election lost to the ZANU PF candidate.
Makore ran for Ward 3 of Murewa Rural District Council (MRDC) and was a distant second to the winner Anyway Nheweyembwa (ZANU PF) who garnered more than 1 000 votes.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200016081/double-blow-for-tapiwa-makores-father">NewsDay</a> reported that at Chingwaru Business Centre, Makore received 38 votes while Nheweyembwa had 179.
At Chinyani Pre-School, Makore got 55 votes while the ZANU PF candidate got 57. The trend continued in two other polling stations in the wards.
Makore blamed the ZANU PF-affiliated group Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ), for his loss, saying FAZ members intimidated voters and this gave ZANU PF an advantage. He said:

FAZ (Forever Associates of Zimbabwe) intimidated voters, they contributed to my loss in the polls.
What do you expect when people are voting while being monitored at a polling station? The votes I got were only from those who were brave.

Tapiwa Makore Jnr was a 7-year-old boy from Makore Village under Chief Mangwende in Murewa District, Mashonaland East Province who was brutally murdered on 17 September 2020 in a suspected ritual killing.
Tapiwa’s killers, his uncle and namesake Tapiwa Makore Snr and a herdboy Tafadzwa Shamba were sentenced to death.
Meanwhile, Munyaradzi Makore is hoping that the move by CCC to overturn the election result will result in fresh elections.
He said he would contest again if there 23 August election is nullified and a fresh election is declared.
Makore is a known opposition party member in the Nyamutumbu area of Murewa, a perceived ZANU PF stronghold.

Tapiwa Makore's Father In Electoral Setback

Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for Southern Africa, Khanyo Farisè, has expressed opposition to the death penalty given to Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore Senior by the Harare High Court for the murder of Tapiwa Makore three years ago.
Farisè stated that the death penalty violates the right to life and is a premeditated and cold-blooded killing of a person by the state in the name of justice. Farisè acknowledged the pain felt by Tapiwa’s family but stressed that the death penalty is not an appropriate response, and anyone found guilty of a crime after a fair trial should be held accountable without resorting to the death penalty.
Amnesty International is urging Zimbabwean authorities to commute all death sentences to prison terms and establish an official moratorium on executions with a view to abolishing the death penalty for all crimes. Responding to the news Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore Senior have been sentenced to death, Khanyo Farisè said:

 Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases without exception regardless of the nature of the crime, the characteristics of the offender, or the method used by the state to execute the prisoner. It is the premeditated and cold-blooded killing of a human being by the state in the name of justice. It violates the right to life as proclaimed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.
While Amnesty International acknowledges the pain and anguish felt by Tapiwa’s family following the death of Tapiwa Makore, the death penalty is never the appropriate response and must never be used in any circumstances anywhere in the world. In opposing the death penalty, Amnesty International in no way seeks to minimize or condone the crimes for which those sentenced to death were convicted. Anyone found guilty of a crime after a fair trial that meets international standards should be held accountable without resort to the death penalty.
Zimbabwean authorities must abolish the death penalty for all crimes
There is no credible evidence that the death penalty has a greater deterrent effect on crime than prison terms. Amnesty International is urging the authorities in Zimbabwe to commute all death sentences to prison terms. Also, we call on the Zimbabwean authorities to establish an official moratorium on executions with a view to abolishing the death penalty for all crimes.

Tapiwa Makore Murder: Amnesty Opposes Death Penalty For Shamba And Makore Senior

Some people in Murehwa have welcomed the death sentence imposed on Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore Sr for the brutal murder of Tapiwa Makore Jr in 2020.
Tapiwa was only 7 years old when he was murdered by his uncle and namesake Tapiwa Sr and his herdsman, Shamba on 17 September 2020 in Nyamutumbu Village.
Speaking to <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/07/12/murewa-community-welcomes-death-sentence/">ZBC News</a> on Wednesday, 13 July, one of the Murehwa community members, said:

I welcome the development and the government has done the wonderful thing. I am so excited that justice has been served today.
I have no regret about those two. The sentence has brought relief and all the time I was blaming the government, but today that I’m grateful that justice has been served.
When Tapiwa was murdered I was traumatised, and I spent more than six months in bed but today am happy. What Tapiwa Makore Senior did is unforgivable.

The garden which Tapiwa Jr was looking after on the day he was murdered has reportedly been abandoned with no one taking care of it.
Another Murehwa villager said the murderers have no right to live, saying they murdered Tapiwa Jr as if they were killing an animal. Said the villager:

Since I was born, this is my first time to hear such things. It’s so sad that someone can kill a person like he is killing a cow, so we are happy with the sentence. Tapiwa and Tafadzwa must also die the same way or rot in jail.

Tapiwa’s remains were buried six months after his callous murder without his head, which is yet to be located.

When Tafadzwa Shamba first appeared before a Murehwa magistrate, he narrated how he gruesomely murdered the boy.
He, however, later retracted his statement, saying the Police tricked him to make indications implicating Tapiwa Makore Senior as his accomplice.
But in his ruling, Justice Mutevedzi said Shamba confessed to the murder and described in detail how it was done. He ruled:

Shamba is guilty beyond reasonable doubt as required by the law. Shamba be and is hereby found guilty for the murder of Tapiwa while Makore Snr is found guilty for the murder of Tapiwa as an accomplice.
The court is satisfied that the statement by Shamba was acceptable and confirms that he committed the offence.
He explained in graphic detail. That detail elaborates his intimate details regarding commission of the crime.
The first accused (Shamba’s) situation is compounded by other issues.
He did not only confess, he made indications, he pointed to a house the boy was detained, the container which was containing the illicit brew was also found in the same house…
Accused one (Shamba’s) fate is sealed by the fact that body parts were found through his confession.
The victim was detained in his house. He supplied alcohol which was used to drug the victim.
The question which arises is if he supplied means for Shamba to commit this offence. The child was locked in his house for long hours, in fact for around 8 hrs.
It is unimaginable that he wouldn’t have noticed the presence of the boy in his house.

Tapiwa’s mother,  Linda Munyori, said that while scars from her son’s murder may never fully fade, at least justice had been served.

Murehwa Villagers Welcome Death Sentence Imposed On Tapiwa Makore's Murderers

High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi on Wednesday, 12 July sentenced <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tapiwa_Makore">Tapiwa Makore’s</a> killers to death, reported <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/breaking-news-tapiwa-makore-killers-sentenced-to-death/">H-Metro</a>.
Tafadzwa Shamba was last month convicted of murder while the boy’s uncle and namesake, Tapiwa Makore was found guilty of being an accomplice.
Justice Mutevedzi ordered that both Shamba and Makore are to be returned to custody, and death sentences will be initiated on them.
During the trial, it was established that the duo killed and mutilated the then seven-year-old boy to boost Tapiwa Snr’s cabbage business.
Tapiwa was a Grade One learner at Nyamutumbu Primary School and his teacher, Keresia Makamure, described him as an intelligent, obedient child whose future was bright.
The boy was sent by his parents to look after the garden on the morning of 17 September 2020.
Later that day, Tapiwa’s parents went to the garden to do some watering and found that their son was missing.
His parents and some villagers started searching for him and the search was conducted until midnight but they could not find him.
On the following day, 18 September, in the morning, a neighbour reportedly woke up and discovered his dog and its puppies feasting on human body parts in his yard.
He then informed Tapiwa’s parents and a report was made to the police. The body’s head was missing.
Several arrests people were arrested in connection with the murder, including Thanks Makore, Tapiwa’s uncle amid allegations that he was given the boy’s head and arms.
Thanks was said to be a twin brother of Tapiwa Makore Snr, and a cousin of Munyaradzi Makore, Tapiwa Makore Jnr’s father.
On 13 October 2022, Justice Mutevedzi formally acquitted Thanks Makore and another suspect Moud Hunidzarira of the murder of Tapiwa Makore Jnr at the close of the prosecution case.
Hunidzarira of Budiriro, Harare, was arrested during the weekend of 31 October and 01 November 2020 following a tip-off by the public.
It was alleged that she was in Murewa when the murder occurred and a few days later was seen by some neighbours in Harare, cleaning an item that had blood.
However, the State withdrew the charges against the two for lack of incriminating evidence.
Meanwhile, the Government is considering abolishing the death penalty. The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs conducted nationwide consultations with the public and various stakeholders on a proposed move to abolish the death penalty.

Tapiwa Makore's Killers Sentenced To Death

The man convicted of killing seven-year-old <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tapiwa_Makore">Tapiwa Makore</a> in September 2020, will be sentenced today (Wednesday) by the High Court.
Last month High Court judge Munamato Mutevedzi found Tafadzwa Shamba guilty of the murder of Tapiwa.
The boy’s uncle and namesake Tapiwa Makore, was found guilty of being an accomplice after he provided his house for the commissioning of the crime.
The court found insufficient evidence to convict Tapiwa Makore Senior of the murder itself.
Shamba confessed to the murder and this statement was confirmed by a magistrate and accepted by the High Court.
He told the court that they killed the Tapiwa with the intention of selling his body parts to a witch doctor for US$1 500.
Tapiwa’s body parts were found in different places but his head is yet to be located.

Munyaradzi Makore, the father of the then 7-year-old Murehwa boy, Tapiwa Makore, who was murdered by his uncle and namesake, and his herdsman, on 17 September 2020, says he is still in pain.
Tapiwa’s remains were buried six months after his callous murder without his head, which is yet to be located.
Munyaradzi said the issue has also affected the unity of the family since it was done by family members. He said:

Yes, justice prevailed (after two relatives were found guilty of killing him), but I was hoping to know the whereabouts of the head.
It is something that continues to eat me up that I buried my son without his head and up to now I do not know its whereabouts.
I will only leave this to God, but I am in pain.

Tapiwa Makore's Father Says He Hoped Killers Would Reveal The Whereabouts Of Boy's Head

High Court Judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi has delivered a guilty verdict to Tapiwa Makore Snr and Tafadzwa Shamba for the ritualistic murder of Murewa boy Tapiwa Makore Jnr.

The two accused denied the charges, but Shamba had confessed and provided graphic details of the murder. The judge noted that Shamba’s confession and explicit descriptions of how he killed Tapiwa were sufficient evidence of his guilt. He also pointed to other evidence, such as the house where Tapiwa was held and the container used to hold the illicit brew, as further confirmation of Shamba’s involvement. The judge said:

Makore Snr’s involvement was less clear, but the judge noted that he had supplied alcohol to drug Tapiwa and had locked him in his house for several hours. The judge concluded that Makore Snr had participated in the murder in multiple ways.
Sentencing will occur on July 12.

Tafadzwa Shamba And Tapiwa Makore Snr Convicted Of Ritualistic Murder

Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore Snr, the suspects accused of the brutal murder of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tapiwa_Makore/">Tapiwa Makore Jnr</a> in 2020, arrived at the High Court in Harare on Thursday where Justice Munamato Mutevedzi is expected to deliver the long-awaited judgement.
Tapiwa was allegedly murdered by his uncle Tapiwa Makore Snr in connivance with Shamba for ritual purposes when he was just seven years old. Four suspects were initially arrested, including Maud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore, but the latter two were acquitted for lack of evidence against them. Tapiwa was buried more than six months after his murder without some of his body parts, including his skull, which investigators failed to locate.
Some Background Information:
On the morning of September 17, 2020, Tapiwa Makore Junior was asked by his parents to tend the garden. Later, when his parents went to the garden to water the plants, they discovered that their son was missing. They and some villagers searched for him until midnight but to no avail. The following morning, a neighbour found his dog and its puppies feasting on human body parts in his yard. He informed Tapiwa’s parents, and a police report was made. Unfortunately, the head of the body was missing.
Tafadzwa Shamba, a herdboy, was arrested on September 24, 2020, in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Tapiwa Makore Junior. Shamba was accused of conspiring with two others to kill Tapiwa, harvest his body parts, and sell them for just $1,500. The police alleged that Shamba worked with the other suspects to kidnap Tapiwa from a garden and then took him to a mountain where they kept him for the whole day. They then killed him at night, and one of the other suspects took away the head, leaving Shamba with the other body parts. Tapiwa’s uncle, Tapiwa Makore Senior, and Maud Hunidzarira were also arrested in connection with the boy’s murder. Hunidzarira was arrested after being seen cleaning an item with blood on it. 
Two Murewa villagers, known as Mai Mungandire and Mai Katsande, were arrested after purchasing human flesh from Tafadzwa Shamba, as revealed by gathered information. Joina Tangirire and Enia Tangirire were identified as the two women who admitted buying meat from the alleged murderer but claimed they had no knowledge that it was human flesh. The women cooked and ate the meat and were taken into custody for further questioning and ordered to carry the pots they used to cook the meat. An 11-year-old boy from Nyamutumbu Village allegedly received $5 from Tapiwa Makore Snr to lure Tapiwa Junior from the garden to his uncle’s homestead. Tapiwa’s uncle, Thanks Makore, was later arrested for his involvement in the murder.
On September 29, 2020, Tafadzwa Shamba reportedly <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tapiwa_Makore/">confessed</a> to detectives that he killed Tapiwa Makore Junior by cutting off his head with a knife while the boy’s uncle, Tapiwa Senior, held a torch. Shamba said he carried the head and dismembered body in a black plastic bag, while Tapiwa Senior carried a bag containing the arms and legs. Shamba also revealed that he kidnapped Tapiwa, fed him, drugged him with kachasu, and locked him up in a room for hours. However, during his court appearance, Shamba retracted the confession, claiming he made indications under duress. The court ruled that his explanation was preposterous, and his indications led to the recovery of the body parts. Pindula posted the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tapiwa_Makore/">confession.</a>
Tapiwa Makore Junior was buried on March 27, 2021, approximately six months after his brutal murder. He was buried without his head as the police could not locate it. The funeral was attended by numerous people, including politicians from the ZANU PF party. Munyaradzi Makore, Tapiwa’s father, was the MDC Alliance branch chairperson in Murewa North. On October 13, 2022, High Court judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi acquitted Thanks Makore and Moud Hunidzarira of Tapiwa’s murder due to a lack of incriminating evidence. However, Tafadzwa Shamba and Tapiwa Makore Snr, the prime suspects, were placed on their defense as there was substantial evidence linking them to the murder.

Justice For Tapiwa Makore: Murder Suspects Await Verdict In Harare High Court

The father of <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Tapiwa_Makore">Tapiwa Makore</a>, the boy from Murehwa who was murdered allegedly for ritual purposes in September 2020, is now running for office in the Murehwa North constituency.
Munyaradzi Makore filed his nomination papers and will be standing as a council candidate for Ward 3 under the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ticket in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to NewsDay, Makore said he is looking forward to contesting in an election for the first time. He said:

I have to work hard in mobilising support and making sure that we get the desired results.
</blockquote>
Makore was the MDC Alliance branch chairperson in Murehwa North before the party rebranded to CCC.
Tapiwa was buried on 29 March 2021 at the Makore family home in Nyamutumbu Village, Murehwa, more than six months after his gruesome murder.
The boy was buried without some of his body parts principally his skull after investigators failed to locate it.
Former Health Minister, David Parirenyatwa, who was identified as the chief mourner thanked the scores of mourners who attended the burial for their political tolerance.
Senior Zanu PF figures who were present at Tapiwa’s burial include Parirenyatwa, who is a Politburo member, Mashonaland East Minister Apollonia Munzverengwi, Housing Minister Daniel Garwe and Chief Mangwende, the Murehwa senator.

Tapiwa Makore’s Father, Munyaradzi Runs For Office On A CCC Ticket

Maud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore have been found not guilty and acquitted of Tapiwa Makore’s murder after the prosecution withdrew charges against them at the close of the State’s case. 
The State failed to provide evidence against the two.
Thanks Makore was <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/23/thank-makores-uncle-paid-tapiwa-makores-killers-1500-to-murder-him-report/">arrested in 2020 and accused of sending</a> his twin brother Tapiwa Makore Snr and Tafadzwa Shamba to kill his nephew promising to pay them US$1 500.
He was released on a $10 000 bail by the High Court and was rearrested a few hours later on allegations of defeating or obstructing the course of justice by destroying evidence.
It was alleged back then that when Tapiwa Makore (Snr) was arrested in September 2020, Thanks allegedly drove to Murehwa Police Station where he asked for keys to Tapiwa Makore’s house.
Thanks reportedly went to the house and allegedly destroyed and burnt some evidence which linked Tapiwa Makore Snr to the commissioning of the crime. 
Hunidzarira, known for brewing traditional opaque beer in the area and a neighbour of the Makores, was arrested in Budiriro after she was spotted washing a blood-stained carpet.
Tapiwa was allegedly murdered by his uncle in September 2020 in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Murewa">Nyamutumbu village, Murehwa.</a>
According to one alleged confession, the boy was drugged, killed and mutilated so that they could sell his body parts to a witch doctor for US$1 500.

One of the key State witnesses in the trial of the suspected killers of Tapiwa Makore Jnr Tuesday disowned the statement recorded by the police.
Ms Julia Kamunda testified in court that she lied so as to suit the police reading of the case after being threatened with unspecified action, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/state-witness-impeached-in-makore-murder-trial/">The Herald</a> reported. 
She was the second witness to testify in the ongoing trial of Tafadzwa Shamba, Tapiwa Makore Snr, Moud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore.
<h2>Her statement to the police:</h2>
<blockquote>
i). Ms Kamunda said the remains of <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/21/ritual-killings-blamed-for-the-death-of-a-7-year-old-murehwa-boy-whose-body-was-found-with-body-parts-missing/">Tapiwa, a slain seven-year-old Murehwa boy</a>, were found dumped at the homestead of one of the witnesses, Mr Summer Murwira. 
iii). She said her son, also listed as a State witness, had told her that he had been sent by Shamba to collect the body from the garden, which he did and handed that body over to Shamba.
iii). She also said she warned her son not to tell anyone about the disappearance of Tapiwa, as the matter was under police investigation.

But she disowned the statement on Monday prompting the lead prosecutor, Mr Albert Masamha, to apply for Ms Kamunda’s impeachment.
Presiding judge Justice Munamato Mutevedzi allowed the application and declared the witness hostile and impeached her. Mutevedzi said:

The prosecution has made sufficient basis for impeachment. Her statement is at variance with what she told the court and the police.
The witness, has been declared as a hostile witness and state is at liberty to cross-examine its witness.

The purpose of impeachment is not to persuade the judicial officer to accept the evidence he or she gave in the original statement but to destroy their reliability as a witness for either side.
The trial of the four accused began on Monday with all the suspects denying the charge.

Tapiwa Makore Murder: State Witness Says She Lied To Suit The Police Reading

Tafadzwa Shamba, the chief suspect in the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/21/ritual-killings-blamed-for-the-death-of-a-7-year-old-murehwa-boy-whose-body-was-found-with-body-parts-missing/">murder of seven-year-old Murehwa boy Tapiwa Makore</a> has denied killing the boy saying <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/30/herdsman-reveals-gruesome-details-of-murehwa-boy-ritual-murder/">he only admitted</a> under duress after being assaulted by investigating officers.
He denied the link to the offence claiming that the blood spots that were found on his pair of trousers were from a chicken he had slaughtered at Makore Snr’s homestead.
Shamba, who was the gardener of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Murehwa_Ritual_Murder">Tapiwa</a>’s father, also claimed that the blood stains found on his vest were menstrual blood left by his friend’s girlfriend.
He made the remarks on Monday when the trial of the four accused began, <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/state-witness-impeached-in-makore-murder-trial/">The Herald</a> reported. 
The other three accused Tapiwa Makore Snr, Moud Hunidzarira and Thanks Makore also denied the charge saying they were assaulted by the police to give statements that were allegedly rehearsed by the police.
Tapiwa was allegedly murdered by his uncle in September 2020 in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Murewa">Nyamutumbu village, Murehwa. </a>
According to one alleged confession, the boy was drugged, killed and mutilated so that they could sell his body parts to a witch doctor for US$1 500.
The family faced continued grief after enduring over six months without burying his body. <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Murehwa_Ritual_Murder">Tapiwa Makore</a>’s head could not be located until <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/28/murdered-murewa-boy-tapiwa-makore-finally-buried/">the time of his burial.</a> The trial continues this Wednesday with three more witnesses expected to testify.
Mr Moses Mavhaire and Mutsa Chivandire from Chivandire, Mavhaire and Zinto Law Chambers are representing Shamba.
Tapiwa Makore Snr is being represented by Mr Munyaradzi Midzi of Titan Law Chambers while Hunidzarira is being represented by Mr Maxwell Mavhunga of Mavhunga and Associates.

New Twist To Tapiwa Makore Case: Shamba Says He Admitted To Murder Under Duress

The family of the murdered Murehwa boy, Tapiwa Makore, has claimed that his spirit appeared to their daughter recently and spoke with her.
Tapiwa’s father, Munyaradzi, told NewsDay that his four-year-old daughter allegedly went into a trance with her eyes wide open and spoke to her deceased brother. He said:

It happened recently, once. I was not around, but my wife and a relative witnessed it.
She went into a trance or like someone sleeping, but her eyes were open. She appeared as if she was talking to someone.
After some moments, she woke up and revealed that her late brother Tapiwa had appeared to her and they had a conversation.

Munyaradzi said his daughter claimed to have seen the dismembered body of her brother.
Tapiwa, then 7-years-old, was murdered for suspected ritual purposes in September 2020 in Nyamutumbu village, Murehwa.
The boy’s uncle and namesake Tapiwa Makore (Snr) and his herdboy Tafadzwa Shamba are in remand prison over the gruesome murder.
Shamba confessed to killing the boy for ritual purposes and claimed his then-employer, Tapiwa Makore (Snr) was also involved in the murder.
Tapiwa was buried six months after his murder without his head which is yet to be located.
In Shona culture, it is believed that a murdered person can avenge their own death or even reveal the location of their remains if they are missing.

Murdered Tapiwa Makore's Spirit Visited Sibling, Family Claims

The Makore family has explained why they rejected the DNA results which confirmed that a head found three days after Tapiwa’s gruesome murder was their son’s.
Speaking to The Sunday Mail on Friday, Munyaradzi Makore, father to the murdered Tapiwa (7), said the skull had no human flesh, no hair, no tongue and its teeth did not even match their son’s.
Moreover, a pathology test run by the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals confirmed that the head belonged to a 13 or 14-year-old, not a seven-year-old.
Makore confirmed that DNA samples were only extracted from Tapiwa’s mother Linda Munyori, and not from both parents.
Tabitha Chikeya, a lawyer who offered legal services pro deo to the family, also confirmed that samples were drawn from the mother only. She said:
<blockquote>That directive came from the police who were conducting the investigations, that they needed samples only from the mother, and only the police can answer why they decided on that. Maybe it was a financial consideration.</blockquote>
Responding to the controversy around the extraction of DNA samples, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
<blockquote>The DNA tests were done with guidance from experts and since this was not a paternity test, it was only prudent to get samples from the mother.</blockquote>
Makore said the family rejected a State-assisted funeral because what they wanted was justice for Tapiwa Jnr, and not a coffin, food and related funeral expenses.
Tapiwa was last seen alive on Wednesday 16 September 2020 after he was sent to tend the family garden.
Tafadzwa Shamba, a herdboy, confessed to the murder of Tapiwa and implicated his employer, Tapiwa Makore Snr, who is a cousin to Munyaradzi Makore.
Tapiwa Makore was finally laid to rest on Saturday, 27 March 2021 at Makore Village, Murewa.

Makore Family Reveals Why They Rejected Tapiwa's DNA Results

The parents of Tapiwa Makore, a seven-year-old Murehwa boy who was last year murdered for suspected ritual purposes has rejected DNA results that suggested that a skull discovered days after his murder belonged to their son.
Family lawyer Ms Tabitha Chikeya, told ZBC News Wednesday that the family wanted a second test saying it was impossible for the head to belong to Tapiwa considering that it looked old despite being discovered only three days after his death.
Tapiwa’s mother, Ms Linda Munyori, also told The Herald last night that the family was rejecting the DNA results. Ms Munyori said:

Tapiwa went missing on September 17 while looking after his parents’ garden. <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/11/some-of-tapiwa-makores-remains-found/">His torso was found the following morning, with some parts, including the head missing.</a>
Six suspects, including his uncle Tapiwa Makore Senior, have since been arrested while others were questioned in connection with the kidnapping and murder.
Meanwhile, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the latest DNA test results and said the murder investigation was still in progress. He said:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that communication has been made with the late Tapiwa Makore’s family in connection with the DNA results which were conducted by AIBST DNA Testing Centre and National University of Science and Technology.
The DNA results showed that the jaw, tooth and limb were a direct match to the torso. All other details concerning the case will be revealed once trial proceedings are in motion.</blockquote>
The family has been waiting for the DNA test results for them to bury their son and had announced that the burial would be conducted on the 27th of March.
Now that the Makore family has rejected the DNA results, the course of events might also change.

"Not Our Son" Tapiwa Makore's Parents Reject DNA Results

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released a statement stating that some of the remains they retrieved were actually slain Murehwa boy Tapiwa Makore’s remains.
The remains were part of the several skulls that were recovered from Tapiwa Makore Senior’s toilet last December as ZRP intensified their search for the missing body parts.
In a statement released by ZRP, the police said they have notified Tapiwa Makore’s family of the results of the DNA:

Some Of Tapiwa Makore's Remains Found

The burial of Tapiwa Makore from Chief Mangwende area in Murehwa which was scheduled <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/19/murehwa-murder-date-set-for-burial-of-tapiwas-remains/">for Saturday 9 January</a> 2021 was postponed indefinitely because of the lockdown, ZTN reports.
This was communicated by the family spokesperson Beaula Musupayi who told ZTN that:
<blockquote>The recently pronounced lockdown has forced us to postpone the burial. Some of our relatives could not travel due to Covid-19 so we have decided to put the burial on hold. They want to pay their last respects and we cannot deny them a chance to do so.</blockquote>
Musupayi said the families of the twin Makore brothers believed to be behind the murder Thanks and Tapiwa Mkore Senior are not welcome to the burial:
<blockquote>Thanks and Tapiwa’s families are not welcome. The situation is not as we all wanted as such these people must stay away from the proceedings, we don’t want to see them.</blockquote>
However, Thanks Makore’s son said he will attend the burial to pay his last respects:
<blockquote>By nature l should attend the funeral to pay my last respects and had it not been for the bail conditions set for my father, he would have loved to attend the burial also</blockquote>
Tapiwa was murdered by his namesake and his herdsman in September 2020 for suspected ritual purposes.

Tapiwa Makore Burial Postponed, Uncles' Families Ordered Not To Attend The Burial

A hut belonging to <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/12/19/murehwa-murder-tapiwa-makores-uncle-granted-bail/">Thanks Makore who was recently released on bail</a> in the murder case of his nephew Tapiwa Makore was reportedly gutted by fire on Friday, The Herald reports.
The incident was reportedly narrated to the publication by Thanks’ brother Shadreck who narrated how the fire destroyed the house of Thanks a few weeks after another fire gutted Thanks’ twin brother Tapiwa Makore Snr’s house and said:
<blockquote>My cousin brother who is currently staying at Thanks’ homestead woke me up at midnight and alerted me of the incident. When I woke up, I noticed that the hut and gazebo were on fire.
I am still wondering how the kitchen caught fire because it’s barely a month since we witnessed Tapiwa Makore Senior’s hut also being burnt to ashes.</blockquote>
A witness identified as Rita spoke to the publication and said the fire could have been started by someone who is seeking revenge:
<blockquote>When the incident occurred, I was fast asleep and I only woke up to see Makore’s house burning. Now, what is troubling us is the person behind these fires because sometime early this month, Tapiwa Makore Senior’s hut was also reduced to ashes. I personally think that whoever is behind these fires, is seeking revenge for the murder of Tapiwa</blockquote>
Thanks Makore was granted bail after the judge ruled that there was nothing linking him to the crime.

Another Makore House Gutted By Fire In Murehwa

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has dismissed social media reports which suggest that police found the head of Tapiwa Makore, a 7-year-old Murehwa boy who was killed in September for ritual purposes.
National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement saying investigations were still underway. Nyathi said:
<blockquote>The Zimbabwe Republic Police has not recovered any skull in relation to the late Tapiwa Makore’s murder investigations. The public should take note that Police are doing routine investigations which include searches for any evidence related to the murder case.
Contrary to social media frenzy, no head, arms or body parts have been recovered in the ongoing searches. The public will thus be kept appraised on the progress of investigations.</blockquote>
Police this Wednesday deployed sniffer dogs at the Damafalls house of Tapiwa’s uncle, Thanks Makore who earlier admitted that he received Tapiwa’s head and arms from his killers and buried them at his house.
Thanks Makore has since backtracked on his statement saying he lied about receiving and burying Tapiwa’s head, adding confusion to the saga.
Scores of people gathered at Tapiwa Makore (Snr)’s twin brother Thanks Makore’s house in Damofalls as police had brought him for indications.
Damafalls residents watched from a distance singing and dancing, demanding the release of Tapiwa’s missing body parts.

A woman in Damafalls today went into a trance and started to speak as if possessed with the murdered 7-year-old Murehwa boy, Tapiwa Makore. The woman said she was Tapiwa, the murdered boy, adding that she was against the police chasing people away. She also said she wanted people to see where she was hidden. This is happening as police have deployed sniffer dogs at the Damafalls house of Thanks Makore, Tapiwa Makore’s uncle, to locate the missing head and arms. The Zimbabwe Republic Police has revealed that Thanks Makore (56) has been arrested in connection with the ritual murder of his 7-year-old nephew, Tapiwa Makore.
Thanks Makore who resides in Damofalls was arrested on Tuesday in Harare after it appeared that he was given Tapiwa’s head and arms.
He has since appeared before a Mutoko magistrate who remanded him in custody.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police force was now focused on locating the boy’s head and arms.
This is happening after recent police investigations revealed that<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/12/boy-11-received-us5-hush-money-for-role-in-murehwa-murder/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> Tapiwa Makore senior who is already in remand gave </a><a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/11/12/boy-11-received-us5-hush-money-for-role-in-murehwa-murder/">an 11-year-old boy from Nyamutumbu Village a sum of US$5 to lure Tapiwa Makore (Jnr)</a> from his parents’ garden to his uncle’s homestead.
Tapiwa Makore senior also gave the boy a T-shirt for the role he played and warned him against disclosing the matter to anyone.
The boy handed over the money to his mother who kept the secret. The mother is said to have used the money to buy chicken.
The boy will testify as a witness in the murder trial.

Another Makore Brother Arrested Over Tapiwa's Murder

Tapiwa Makore (57) the uncle <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/09/30/herdsman-reveals-gruesome-details-of-murehwa-boy-ritual-murder/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">of Tapiwa Makore, a 7-year-old Murewa boy</a> who was murdered recently has been remanded in custody when he appeared before the courts in connection with the murder.
The accused appeared before magistrate Ms Chiedza Gatsi at Murehwa Magistrate’s Court facing charges of murder and was remanded to October 13.
It is the state’s case that on September 17 at around midday, Makore (senior) and his accomplice, Tafadzwa Shamba proceeded to the garden where the deceased Tapiwa (junior) was watching over the family garden.
Makore allegedly gave his accomplice the keys to his house where the deceased was lured into and later kidnapped.
The accused later joined other villagers in searching for the boy who had been reported missing. They searched until midnight.
Makore and his accomplice took the deceased to a nearby mountain on the following day around 1 am and killed him.
The body parts were packed in two different packages, the other one was dumped near the homestead of one Summer Murwira while the other was delivered at the accused’s home for safekeeping.
Murwira discovered some of the body parts which were being eaten by his dogs.
on 20 September, police officers who were investigating the matter discovered Shamba’s blood-stained pair of trousers which he had hidden in Makore’s kitchen hut.
Shamba was picked for questioning on the 23rd of September. He confessed to committing the crime and also implicated Makore.
