A magistrate in Mbare has acquitted <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Blot">Takura Chioniso</a>, a popular Zimdancehall artist known as <a href="https://wiki.pindula.co.zw/Blot">Blot</a>, who was arrested for possessing 1.15g of Crystal Meth. Chioniso, 24 years old, was represented by Mr. Dumisani Mthombeni and faced charges of possessing dangerous drugs.
<h3>Some Context:</h3>
Blot, also known as Takura Chioniso, was arrested in June this year for using crystal meth (Mutoriro) inside a parked Toyota Corolla. Police officers discovered a plastic bag containing some of the drugs inside the vehicle. Blot appeared in the Mbare Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody for trial on June 26. According to the court proceedings, the incident took place on June 13 at around 3 pm in Sunningdale, Harare. Police officers received a tip-off about drug abuse activities in a specific parked car on Matiza Road in Sunningdale 2. They seized 1.15g of Crystal Meth from Chioniso during a search, leading to his arrest.
Blot rose to fame in 2016 with his song “Ndiri Bad” on the Stage Riddim by Chill Spot Records, becoming a highly sought-after Zimdancehall artist that year.
Born in 1996 in Kwekwe, he was raised by his mother after his parents’ divorce when he was two. Blot attended Chiedza Primary School in Mbizo but transferred to Mvurwi to live with his grandfather in fourth grade. After primary school, he attended Mvurwi Secondary School but dropped out in Form 2 due to financial constraints, pursuing a career in music.
In 2014, he caught the attention of Dr. Abuja during a performance in Mvurwi, who encouraged him to come to Dzivaresekwa, Harare for recording opportunities. 
In April 2017, Blot embarked on his first regional and international tour, performing in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, and the UK alongside other artists like Shinsoman and Boom Beto.

Zimdancehall Artist Blot Acquitted Of Possessing And Abusing Crystal Meth

Zimdancehall artist Takura Chiwoniso, a.k.a Blot, was arrested by the police on Wednesday for drug abuse.
Blot was allegedly found using crystal meth in a parked Toyota Corolla by police officers.
A plastic bag containing some of the drugs was also recovered from the vehicle.
ZRP spokesperson in Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest to H-Metro. He said:

Police arrested an illicit drug abuse suspect in Sunningdale.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
</blockquote>
Drug and substance abuse is a growing problem in Zimbabwe, particularly among low-income and homeless youths.
Studies show that some young people start to abuse alcohol, drugs and other substances at the age of 12 years.
Commonly used substances in Zimbabwe include glue, bronclee, mangemba, tumbwa, cane sprit, marijuana, codeine and crystal meth (guka, dombo, mutoriro).

Zimdancehall Musician Blot Arrested Over Illicit Drug Abuse

Award-winning music producer Shelton ‘Sunshine’ Masiwa says <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimdancehall">ZimDancehall </a>is declining and will be overtaken by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zim_Hip_Hop">Zim Hip hop </a>as the most popular genre if certain things are not done right.
Masiwa, who owns <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sunshine_Studios">Sunshine Studios </a>and has over the years produced songs for artists such as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky_D, </a><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Freeman">Freeman,</a> <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Seh_Calaz">Seh Calaz</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kinnah">Kinnah</a>, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Qounfuzed">Qounfuzed </a>under his stable, believes unnecessary competition between producers as well as rushed projects, can better explain ZimDancehall’s decline, and the resurgence of HipHop.

He said: “ZimDanchell, as a genre, is declining. It is declining because we no longer take our time in producing music with good quality. You can have a situation whereby production of a song starts today and by tomorrow, it will be out.
“A whole album cannot be produced and released within a week, of which that is no ideal as far as our industry is concerned.
“The other problem is that as producers, we are involving ourselves in unnecessary competition. What we only care about is fame, we produce substandard staff and release quickly just to ‘beat’ the other producer and that is not good for ZimDancehall, as a movement.
</blockquote>
Masiwa believes producers now prioritizes fame and that limits the growth of ZimDancehall.  
He said:
<blockquote>
“In the good old days, when ZimDancehall was at its peak, we (producers) used to give each other time to release music so that the listeners focus on one thing at a time but not anymore. These days, we just release for the sake of releasing, just to get fame.    
“The reason why Winky D remains relevant despite ZimDancehall being on a downward spiral is because he takes his time to produce music, he is not pressured by anyone to release it.
“Hip hop is back and can eclipse ZimDancehall because they (Hip hop artists and producers) take their time in making music and it will be sounding good.
“As ZimDancehall stakeholders, if we don’t swallow our pride and accept criticism as far as releasing rushed projects with the literally the same melody over and over is concerned, we will kill our industry and Hip hop will easily take over.
“The impact of HipHop is there for all to see, everyone knows about <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Holy_Ten">Holy Ten</a> and the likes of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Saintfloew">Saintfloew. </a>They started the same way we started, people initially ignored our music but later got used to it and started liking it and it can be the same with Hip hop.

We Will Be Overtaken By Hip Hop If We Don’t Reform, Says Zim Dancehall Producer Sunshine

A 25-year-old Kwekwe-based Zimdancehall artiste, Dollar Vibes, was stabbed to death on Friday following a misunderstanding with his former wife.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the death of the artiste, whose real name is Gilbert Foya.
Insp Mahoko said the tragic incident occurred early morning on Friday at Mbizo Shopping Centre. He said:

The victim, Gilbert Foya, a man aged 25 died after he was stabbed all over the body by another unknown man for assaulting his ex-wife.

Insp Mahoko said Foya and his ex-wife Chipo Phiri, (24) were drinking beer at Mbizo Nightclub.
A misunderstanding arose between the estranged couple over the upkeep of their three-year-old baby and the two then went outside the night club trying to solve the matter. Added Insp Mahoko:

While outside, it is said that Gilbert Foya was seen assaulting Chipo Phiri and a man disembarked from a nearby black Honda Fit armed with a knife.
He charged toward Foya and allegedly stabbed him several times all over the body before driving away.

Zimdancehall Artiste Stabbed To Death For Assaulting Ex-wife

Award-winning Masvingo dancehall chanter Elias Chimbuya (26) popularly known as Dudemaster has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Tafadzwa Chiumba (35) over a twist of dagga.
<a href="https://masvingomirror.com/drug-abuse-masvingo-dancehall-chanter-gets-life-in-prison/">Masvingo Mirror</a> reports that Justice Mawadze of the High Court in Masvingo said Moyo was slaughtered like an animal and described the murder as heartless in his three-hour-long judgment. He attributed the action of the accused to drug abuse.
<h2>What transpired:</h2>
Chimbuya together with an accomplice, Adonia Moyo (28), stabbed the deceased several times and hit him with 17 bricks on the head until they crashed his face. 
The two mutilated the deceased’s manhood and cut it with a knife until they left it hanging on thin skin. All this was over a US$0.50 twist of mbanje.
Chimbuya and Moyo told the court that they were intoxicated and had been smoking dagga.
In his ruling, Justice Mawadze said Chiumba bought a twist of mbanje from the accused for US$0.50. He produced a US$5 note and his attackers got upset when he asked for his US$4.50 change. Said Justice Mawadze in delivering judgment:

The inhuman conduct is cruel and even animals killed for meat are not slaughtered in such a manner. The deceased only bought a sachet of dagga from you and he even paid for it. You could have slapped him in the face or run away as you claimed in your testimony. Authorities should look into drug abuse because most heinous crimes are being committed by drug-abusing youth.

The incident happened on July 15, 2021, at Zambezi Bar at Dunira 1 Mall, Victoria Ranch where the three were drinking beer.
