The Meteorological Services Department, in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, has issued the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe Evening Weather Report</a> and Forecast, valid until Monday, 17 July 2023 noting a continuation of the cold spell.
The Met Department said on Saturday, 15 July 2023, most parts of the country experienced cloudy, windy, and cold weather in the morning with some drizzle in Manicaland and Mashonaland East provinces. However, <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Mashonaland West</a> and western parts of Mashonaland Central had clear skies, resulting in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">moderate ground frost</a> in Henderson and slight frost in Karoi. As the day progressed, the clouds lifted and burnt off in some areas, especially in the southern provinces.
On Sunday, 16 July 2023, most parts of the country are expected to have clear skies, although patches of clouds may be seen during the day due to remnant moisture in the atmosphere. This is expected to cause nighttime temperatures to drop significantly, leading to <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">severe ground frost</a> in areas such as Matopos, Nyanga, Marondera, Henderson, and Gweru, while Kadoma, Lupane, Rusape, Mukandi, Chivhu, and Harare are expected to have moderate ground frost. The severe ground frost may affect the health of vulnerable members of society and trigger respiratory-related illnesses in all persons. Plants and animals are also sensitive to overnight temperature declines.
To mitigate the effects of cold weather, people should keep warm and ensure that vulnerable members are dressed appropriately. If there is a need to use a brazier or fire to keep warm, the room should be well-ventilated. Farmers with crops vulnerable to extreme cold should consult their local Agritex Officers for better advice on frost mitigation measures. Additionally, people should monitor temperatures within <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">fowl runs</a> and adjust accordingly to reduce the impacts of cold conditions on the bird population.
On Monday, 17 July 2023, a cold night and severe ground frost are expected mainly in areas such as Tsholotsho, Matopos, Henderson, Kadoma, Lupane, Gweru, Marondera, Mukandi, Chivhu, Nyanga, and Harare. However, mostly sunny conditions are expected during the day over the entire country, and temperatures should rise to the mild category.

Zimbabwe Weather: MSD Forecasts Continuation Of Cold Spell

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Anti-Corruption_Commission/">Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)</a> has announced the arrest of Nyashadzashe Zindove, the District Development Coordinator for <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nyanga/">Nyanga</a> District and Chairperson of the District Lands Committee, for fraudulently allocating land to an applicant.
In a Twitter post seen by Pindula News, ZACC said the accused had knowledge that the land was private property. Zindove has since appeared in court and was granted bail of ZWL 150,000.
Fraudulent land allocation in Zimbabwe is a crime that carries severe consequences, including legal action, fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of illegally acquired land. The Zimbabwean government has been taking steps to combat corruption and illegal land allocations, as they undermine the country’s land reform program and contribute to the housing crisis.
Land barons take advantage of election seasons to defraud citizens by promising land ownership in exchange for support for certain political parties or candidates. They target low-income earners and vulnerable groups, selling land they do not own, often on illegal or unsuitable sites, and charging exorbitant prices.
To avoid falling victim to such schemes, citizens are advised to verify the legality of any land deals before making payments. 
Firstly, ask the seller to provide the necessary documentation, such as title deeds, survey plans, and land permits, and verify their authenticity with the relevant authorities.
Secondly, conduct a site visit to confirm the location, size, and suitability of the land.
Thirdly, seek advice from local authorities, such as the District Administrator or Rural District Council, regarding legal requirements for land acquisition in the area.
Fourthly, engage a qualified lawyer who specializes in property law to verify the legality of the land deal and ensure that the transaction is conducted within the confines of the law.
Lastly, conduct a background check on the seller to ascertain their credibility and reputation, including their business registration status, track record in land transactions, and any complaints filed against them.
Over the years, local authority governments in the country have <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2022/011/05/harare-demolishes-illegal-houses-in-new-tafara/">demolished thousands of houses</a> and structures, claiming that they were built on illegally acquired land. Owners are not compensated hence the need to avoid being duped by land barons.

ZACC Arrests Nyanga Official For Fraudulent Land Allocation

Tynwald High School bus driver, Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Nyanga magistrate.
Machimbidzofa was behind the wheel when the Tynwald High School bus was involved in an accident in Nyanga which claimed the lives of six learners and one teacher in 2022.
According to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/breaking-news-driver-jailed-five-years-for-nyanga-bus-accident/">The Manica Post</a>, Machimbidzofa was found guilty of seven counts of culpable homicide after a full trial at Nyanga Magistrates’ Court.
However, one year was suspended on the condition that doesn’t commit an offence involving negligent driving in the next five years.
This means Machimbidzoka will serve an effective four years in prison.
The court also cancelled his driver’s licence and barred him from driving for five years.
The Tynwald High School bus was involved in a fatal accident in Juliusdale, Nyanga on Friday, 14 October 2022 around 7 PM, with reports suggesting that the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp curve. 
Six pupils, five female and one male died from head injuries after the bus overturned and landed on its roof near Pine Tree Hotel at the 75km peg along the Rusape-Nyanga Road.
Thirty-nine other learners and staff members were injured and were taken to Nyanga District Hospital and Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare.
The pupils who perished in the accident are Anesuishe Hove (14) of Bluffhill in Harare; Beyonce Guyo (15) of Madokero, Harare; Anita Manyuka (16) of Tynwald Harare; Destiny Dziva (14) of Avondale Harare; Kimberly Tarisai Mutusva (15) of Chitepo Heights, Harare and Craig Madanhire (age unknown), a male juvenile.
The deceased teacher was identified as Chamunorwa Rukwanha. He passed away on 02 November 2022 at the Avenues Clinic in Harare where he was being treated for head injuries.
<h2>What is culpable homicide?</h2>

Tynwald High School Bus Driver Jailed

Some parts of Manicaland Province, including Nyanga, Mutare urban, Chimanimani, and Chipinge, received heavy rains and winds from Sunday evening up to Monday resulting in landslides and damage to some houses and schools.
The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) on Monday said Nyanga received 102mm, Mukandi 97mm, and Chisengu 83mm of rainfall.
It said the thunderstorms and rain were caused by moisture stemming from the now decaying former Tropical Cyclone Freddy and relief rainfall caused by the mountainous area.
According to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/freddy-brings-heavy-rains-landslides-in-manicaland/">The Herald</a>, the situation was very bad in Nyanga where a landslide blocked traffic on Troutbeck Road.
Secretary for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Manicaland Province, Edgars Seenza, said by late Monday night, excavators were on the ground to clear the debris. Said Seenza:

I have received a report of a landslide along Troutbeck Road in Nyanga, blocking the road.
We have been advised that appropriate equipment has been taken to the site to clear the mud and trees on the ground so that traffic can start to pass.
I also heard that crops were affected by heavy winds in Chipinge District. A detailed report will be available tomorrow (today).

Assistant District Development Committee for Nyanga Lloyd Kasima said:

It’s still raining as I talk to you. Crops have been brought down in some areas and there is a landslide close to Troutbeck Hotel and a TLB is clearing the road. Buses and other vehicles could not pass.
Almost five households and teachers’ houses at two schools had roofs blown off by the winds.

Cyclone Freddy-induced Rains Trigger Landslides In Manicaland

Parts of Nyanga District in Manicaland Province received more than 102mm of rainfall over the weekend due to moisture that stemmed from Tropical Cyclone Freddy.
According to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD), Nyanga received 102mm, Mukandi 97mm, and Chisengu 83mm. It said:

The extreme eastern parts of the country received very high precipitation amounts in areas such as Nyanga (102mm), Mukandi (97mm) and Chisengu (83mm).
This comprised thunderstorms and rain due to moisture stemming from the now decaying former Tropical Cyclone Freddy and relief rainfall caused by the mountainous area.
The northern provinces, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central had isolated thundershowers; while Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces were cloudy and cool with rain and drizzle in places.
The only warm and dry areas were the northern parts of Midlands or Matabeleland North.
</blockquote>
The MSD has forecasted isolated showers in Mashonaland East and Central as well as Harare Metropolitan provinces. It said in a statement:

Cloudy and mild morning conditions are expected in Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland east, Mashonaland East, Harare Metropolitan Manicaland, and Masvingo Provinces becoming less cloudy and warmer as the day progresses.
Isolated showers are expected in Mashonaland East and Central as well as Harare Metropolitan; with light morning rain and drizzle Manicaland, Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces.
Matabeleland North, Midlands and Mashonaland West provinces should be mostly sunny and warm in the afternoon becoming mild in the evening.

The Department of Civil Protection (DCP) has warned the public to be wary of possible lightning strikes and to avoid parking vehicles under trees.
The MSD said on 15 March, Masvingo, Manicaland, Harare Metropolitan and all Mashonaland Provinces should be mostly cloudy and mild with morning light rain in places.

Cyclone Freddy Drenches Nyanga

Tynwald High School in Harare held a memorial church service for its six pupils who were killed in a bus accident in Nyanga last year.
The memorial service marked the end of the official five-month mourning period, <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/tynwald-high-holds-memorial-for-students/">reported H-Metro</a>.
The accident claimed the lives of Anita Manyuka, Craig Madanhire, Kimberly Mutusva, Anesu Hove, Beyonce Guyo and Destiny Dziva, and their teacher, Chamunorwa Rukwana, who succumbed to his injuries later in hospital.
In a speech read on her behalf, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education permanent secretary, Tumisang Thabela, said:

What happened here is no ordinary event. No parent has to bury their child.
To date I know we are still trying to make sense of it. Tynwald School is still trying to make sense of it, Warren Park District is still trying to make sense of it.
As a ministry, we are still trying to make sense of it. The whole nation is still trying to make sense of it.
We are all left wondering what plan could this have been part of. What possible meaning or lesson can be gleaned from this?
Unfortunately, there are no easy answers, and as difficult and painful as it is, we need to accept that they are gone. Instead of mourning, let’s remember them and celebrate their lives.
As a family, as friends, as a community and as a nation, we still express our sadness.
We acknowledge our loss, and acknowledge the great importance of all the seven lives we lost as a result of the Nyanga tragedy.

According to a leaked internal police memorandum, on October 14, 2022, at around 7 pm, Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa (43), was driving a blue and white Higer bus belonging to Tynwald High School along Rusape-Nyanga road with 41 students and four staff members on board. It reads:

Upon reaching the 75-kilometre peg on the said road at a sharp curve, the sole party failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road to the left and rolled several times on a steep slope.
In the process threw out some passengers, injuring 34 of them and killing five on the spot the bus landed on its roof.

Police said Beyonce, Anita, Destiny, Kimberly and Craig died on the spot, while Anesuishe died upon admission at Nyanga District Hospital.

Tynwald High School Holds Memorial Service For Pupils Who Died In Nyanga

The late Tynwald High School teacher, Chamunorwa Rukwanha, has been described by the school head Kennias Matimba as one of the best teachers at the school.
Rukwanha passed away on Wednesday at the Avenues Clinic in Harare where he was being treated for head injuries.
He becomes the seventh victim of the accident which claimed the lives of six pupils along Nyanga Road last month.
Rukwanha, who was an A’ Level Geography and Sociology teacher, sustained head injuries when the school bus overturned after the driver lost control.
Matimba said Rukwanha was well-liked by the learners. He said:

The school has been robbed of another life again.
The death came after all admitted children, and staff members had been discharged from the hospital.
One of the teachers was discharged and is now using a wheelchair.
Mr Rukwanha was among the best teachers we have and was so jovial and most students liked him.

"He Was Among Our Best Teachers," Tynwald High School Mourns 7th Accident Victim

The driver of the Tynwald High School bus that was involved in an accident that claimed the lives of six learners who were on a road trip to Nyanga last month faces seven counts of culpable homicide.
The bus driver, Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa, who was wanted by police in Mutare, was arrested in Harare on Tuesday after evading police for three weeks.
He was taken to Mutare for further investigations.
A Geography and Sociology Upper 6 teacher at Tynwald High School, who was part of the trip succumbed to injuries at Avenues Clinic on Tuesday bringing the death toll to seven.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi revealed that Machimbidzofa was arrested in the city while moving around offering condolences to some of the parents of the deceased. <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/tywnald-high-school-accident-driver-faces-seven-counts-of-culpable-homicide/">Said Asst Comm Nyathi:</a>

He was arrested yesterday (Tuesday) in Harare and had been on the run for three weeks. He did not cooperate with the police also after the accident and has been playing hide and seek. He is likely to face culpable homicide charges.

He also wasn’t reporting for duty at the school, resulting in the school not giving him his salary.

Tynwald High School Teacher Dies

The driver of the Tynwald High School bus that was involved in a fatal road accident in Nyanga last month has been arrested, a <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/new-tynwald-high-school-driver-arrested">Sunday Mail</a> report claims.
Machimbidzofa Chamunorwa was picked up by Nyanga police in Harare on Tuesday after being on the run for close to three weeks.
He was reportedly arrested in Harare where he was going around offering condolences to the parents of the deceased.
MacMillan Mutusva, one of the parents of the deceased, was quoted as saying:

The driver had been in hiding and nobody knew about his whereabouts.
He never showed himself after the horrific incident; he would send his brother and lawyers.

Chamunorwa reportedly only surfaced after the school head froze his salary.

Tynwald High School Bus Driver Arrested | Report

One of the first people to arrive at the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Tynwald_High_School_Bus_Accident">Tynwald High School Bus crash</a> site said that they ran after the bus just before it was involved in an accident that killed six pupils and injured 34 other occupants in Juliusdale, Nyanga on Friday last week.
Shingirai Shingoriyo, better known as Madzibaba Shingoriyo, told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/i-knew-bus-was-going-to-crash/">The Manica Post</a> that he was assembling a pile of firewood for sale by the roadside in the Pine Tree area of Nyanga when he heard the sound of a speeding vehicle passing by.
He said he summoned three youths who were with him to follow him as they ran after the bus. Said Shingoriyo:
<blockquote>
I was here assembling a heap of firewood for sale. It was getting dark and I was facing the ground when I heard a sound of a vehicle passing by.
I instantly raised my head, but the vehicle was already more than 100 metres away when l looked up.
All I managed to see was its back as it disappeared into the curve on a steep slope. I knew it would not negotiate the curve while cruising at that speed.
The speed was just too much for this curve. I instantly called the three youths I was with to join me in running after the bus.
The next thing was a crashing sound. We knew it had been involved in an accident. We rushed to the scene and started helping those who were injured to get out of the bus.
We saw some learners who had been thrown out of the bus and were lying lifeless on the ground.

"We Ran After The Bus", Villager Says They Knew Tynwald High School Bus Crash Was Inevitable

Saturday, 15 October was a sad day at Nyanga District Hospital mortuary in Manicaland Province as heartbroken parents collected the bodies of their children who died in a bus accident on Friday night.
Police said a Tynwald High School bus veered off the road and overturned at the 75km peg along Rusape-Nyanga road near Pine Tree Hotel around 7 PM on Friday.
Six pupils, five females and one male were killed in the crash, with several others injured.
The injured were admitted to Nyanga District Hospital and Victoria Chitepo Hospital in Mutare.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/local-news/article/200002068/school-bus-accident-claims-lives">The Standard</a> on Saturday, Nyanga South MP Supa Mandiwanzira (ZANU PF) expressed sympathy with the bereaved parents. He said:

I was there in the morning at Nyanga District Hospital where a lot of kids who were in the hospital were being collected by their parents.
Parents were still milling around at the mortuary at the Nyanga District Hospital. It was a tragic sight, very heart-breaking for parents who came to take the remains of their loved ones
Twenty-four hours earlier they did not think that they would take their young kids in coffins; no parent should go through that.
I want to express my deepest condolences to the children who also lost their friends and classmates.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were investigating the cause of the accident.
However, according to a leaked internal police memorandum, the driver, Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa (43), was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp curve resulting in the crash.
The memo also revealed that Machimbidzofa was yet to produce his driver’s licence to prove that he was certified to drive a bus.
The dead are; Anesuishe Hove (14) of Bluffhill in Harare; Beyonce Guyo (15) of Madokero, Harare; Anita Manyuka (16) of Tynwald Harare; Destiny Dziva (14) of Avondale Harare; Kimberly Tarisai Mutusva (15) of Chitepo Heights, Harare and Craig Madanhire (age unknown), a male juvenile.
Police said Beyonce, Anita, Destiny, Kimberly and Craig died on the spot, while Anesuishe died upon admission at Nyanga District Hospital.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has established that the driver of the Tynwald High School bus that was involved in a fatal accident in Juliusdale, Nyanga on Friday night was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp curve.
Six pupils, five female and one male, died from head injuries after the bus overturned and landed on its roof near Pine Tree Hotel at the 75km peg along the Rusape-Nyanga Road.
According to a leaked internal police memorandum, the driver, Chamunorwa Machimbidzofa (43), was yet to produce his driver’s licence to ascertain whether he was certified to have been behind the wheel.
According to the memo, circumstances were that on October 14, 2022, at around 7 pm, Machimbidzofa was driving a blue and white Higer bus belonging to Tynwald High School along Rusape-Nyanga road with 41 students and four staff members on board. It reads:

Upon reaching the 75-kilometre peg on the said road at a sharp curve, the sole party failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the road to the left and rolled several times on a steep slope.
In the process threw out some passengers, injuring 34 of them and killing five on the spot the bus landed on its roof.
The injured passengers were ferried to Nyanga District Hospital and one died upon arrival at the hospital and Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, where they were admitted.
A report was made to police Nyanga Traffic who attended the scene. Next of kin were advised.
The vehicle sustained extensive damages and is at the scene awaiting VID inspection. Investigations are in progress.

Tynwald High School Bus Accident Caused By Speeding - Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of six children who died in a road traffic accident when a Tynwald High School bus veered off the road and crashed near Pine Tree Hotel around 7 PM on Friday.
The six are Anesuishe Hove (14), Beyonce Guyo (15), Anita Manyuka (16), Destiny Dziva (14), Kimberly Tarisai Mutusva (15) and Craig Madanhire (age not given).
Police said Beyonce, Anita, Destiny, Kimberly and Craig died on the spot, while Anesuishe died upon admission at Nyanga District Hospital.
The bus had 45 passengers on board, comprising 41 learners and four staff members. It was being driven by Machimbidzofa Chamunorwa (43).
The driver allegedly failed to negotiate a sharp curve resulting in the bus rolling several times on a steep slope and landing on its roof.

Police Name Tynwald High School Pupils Who Perished In Nyanga Accident

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a road traffic accident that claimed the lives of six learners from Tynwald High School along the Rusape-Nyanga Road on Friday night.
ZRP Senior Staff Officer (Press and Public Relations), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said the bus the pupils were travelling on veered off the road and overturned at the 75 km peg along Rusape-Nyanga Road near Pine Tree Hotel. Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that six students comprising, five girls and a boy, from Tynwald High School, died on 14th October 2022 at 1900 hours when the school bus which was on its way to a trip veered off the road and overturned at the 75 km peg along Rusape-Nyanga Road near Pine Tree Hotel.
The bus driver allegedly failed to negotiate a sharp curve resulting in the bus rolling several times on a steep slope. It then landed on its roof.

The names of the victims will be released in due course when their next of kin have been advised.

Six Learners Killed In Tynwald High School Bus Accident... New Details Emerge

Reports say a bus carrying Tynwald School pupils was involved in a road accident in Juliasdale, Nyanga on Friday evening.
The children were on a school trip. Five pupils are reported to have died on the spot, while one died upon admission to the hospital.
Pictures of an overturned Tynwald School-branded bus have been circulating on social media platforms since Friday evening.
Nyanga South MP, Supa Mandiwanzira, confirmed the accident late on Friday night.
Posting on Twitter, Mandiwanzira expressed gratitude to the Nyanga District Hospital staff for attending to the accident victims. <a href="https://twitter.com/SupaCollinsM/status/1581015900123435008">He wrote:</a>

Six Pupils Perish In Nyanga Bus Accident

Former Finance minister <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Patrick_Chinamasa">Patrick Chinamasa</a> has reportedly pleaded for the allocation of more central committee seats to Manicaland after he was rejected by his Makoni district at a recent Makoni inter-district meeting.
Party members say he should be contested in the upcoming central committee elections, Standard reported.
In a letter dated September 30 addressed to the ZANU PF political commissar <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mike_Bimha">Mike Bimha</a>, Chinamasa protested why Makoni was allocated few central committee seats. He wrote:

Further to the appeal made to the Makoni District Coordination chairman (DCC) Albert Nyakuedzwa dated 27 September 2022, concerning the above subject matter, allow me to submit copy of Zanu PF Manicaland province analysis showing distribution of party districts, constituency by constituency and administrative district by administrative district.
The analysis reveals that Makoni district, which has hundred and twelve districts and five constituencies has been allocated two central committee posts whereas Nyanga has two constituencies and thirty-two party districts has been allocated four central committee districts.
Clearly the allocation is irrational and defies logic. I add my voice to the appeal by Nyakuedzwa for rectification of the anomaly.

Former Finance Minister Chinamasa Rejected By His District

A senior official in the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), Brigadier General Charles Kaneta died on Saturday 10 September 2022 aged 64.
<a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/brig-gen-kaneta-dies">The Sunday Mail</a> reports that he collapsed and died while at his farm in Nyanga.
Brig Gen Kaneta was the Director General of Logistics at the ZDF Headquarters.
In a statement last night, Brigadier General Augustine Chipwere, the Director General Policy, Public Relations and International Affairs at Zimbabwe Defence Forces Headquarters, said:

Senior Zimbabwe Defence Forces Official Collapses And Dies

Six farmers died on Wednesday while 25 others were injured in separate road traffic accidents along the Rusape-Nyanga Road between 10 PM and 11 PM.
The farmers were aboard two lorries which were carrying avocados and bananas.
In the first accident, police said a Mercedes Benz lorry which had 16 people on board burst its right front tyre near the 50km peg.
As a result, the driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and it overturned.
The lorry landed on its right side and six people died on the spot while eight others were injured.
Of the eight, one of them was reported to be in critical condition and all the injured were taken to Bonda Mission Hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred near London Store.
In the second incident, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said that 17 people were seriously injured. He said:

In the second accident which occurred at the 76km peg in the Baringa area, the driver of a DAF truck which was ferrying people, avocados and bananas, failed to negotiate a curve and overturned, seriously injuring 17 people.

Six Farmers Killed In Road Traffic Accidents

A Nyanga Magistrate, Notebulgar Muchineripi, has outlawed a custom which bans the wearing of red colours during the rainy season. This followed an appeal by Nyanga villager Peter Makunura, who lost his livestock and US$20 to Fungai Mushonga, the headman of Tamunesa village. 
Makunura was fined four goats, two chickens and US$20 after his grandson was <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-on-nyanga-man-who-was-fined-for-wearing-red-during-rainy-season/">seen wearing a red cap while it was raining</a>. The incident took place in January this year.  Makunura was also charged with undermining the authority of the headman by not presenting himself at a primary court session, where he was supposed to answer the charges.
He then engaged Kelvin Kabaya and Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), who filed an application for review of the proceedings presided over by Mushonga at Nyanga Magistrates Courts and sought to set aside the decision of the primary court. A NYANGA Magistrate has ended the agony of a 76-year-old man by outlawing the imposition of a penalty imposed by a traditional leader for allegedly violating a bizarre custom banning the wearing of red colours during the rainy season.
Fungai Mushonga, the Headman for Tamunesa village in Nyanga District in Manicaland province, in January 2022, took the unprecedented and odd decision in which he ordered 76-year-old Peter Makunura to pay four goats, two chickens and US$20 after faulting him for allowing his 15-year-old grandson, who had visited him, to wear a red cap during the rainy season, a practice which is outlawed in the village.
Makunura was also charged for undermining authority of the Headman by not presenting himself at a primary court session, where he was supposed to answer to the frivolous charges.
An aggrieved Makunura then engaged Kelvin Kabaya and Peggy Tavagadza of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, who filed an application for review of the proceedings presided over by Mushonga at Nyanga Magistrates and seeking to set aside the absurd decision of the primary court.
In the application, Kabaya and Tavagadza argued that Mushonga’s decision to summon a minor child to appear in court without his guardian and to permit the Messenger of Court to attach and take into execution Makunura’s property, when he was never a party to the proceedings and was never summoned to appear in the primary court, was grossly irregular as to amount to an illegality.
The human rights lawyers also contended that the decision by Mushonga to enter a judgment in default in circumstances involving a minor child was grossly irregular as to induce a sense of shock and revulsion.
Kabaya and Tavagadza asked the court to set aside Mushonga’s judgment and that he be ordered to pay back the four goats, two chickens and US$20 to Makunura.
In his defence, Mushonga, who opposed the application, argued that it is taboo in his jurisdiction for his subjects to “wear red clothing during the rainy season” and that he could not ascertain the age of Makunura’s grandson for him to realise that he was a minor.
Now, Makunura is a relieved man after Nyanga Magistrate Notebulgar Muchineripi recently set aside Mushonga’s judgment and ordered him to return four live goats and two live chickens to Makunura within seven days.
In his judgment, Magistrate Muchineripi faulted Mushonga for gross irregularity when he granted a default judgment against Makunura because the Customary Law and Local Courts Act does not allow him to do so. In addition, Magistrate Muchineripi ruled that Mushonga’s decision to summon a minor to appear in court without the assistance of an adult such as a parent or guardian was grossly irregular.

Magistrate Outlaws Custom Which Prohibits Wearing Red During Rainy Season

Four members of the Mugodhi Apostolic Church died on the spot while 14 others were injured in a kombi accident in Nyanga on Friday around 3 PM.
The driver of the Nissan Caravan kombi, which had an undisclosed number of passengers, lost control on curves along the Nyanga-Rwenya Road resulting in the crash.
National spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told The Herald on Friday evening that the congregants were coming from Murehwa. He said:

I can confirm that four congregants from the Mugodhi church died on the spot around 3 PM today on their way from Murehwa after a church service.
The driver lost control of the vehicle on the curves along the road near a black spot where the Regina Coeli bus disaster occurred.
It’s a bloody Easter considering that in two accidents, we have now lost 40 people.
Both accidents have happened in the same province (Manicaland) in a space of hours.

Asst Comm Nyathi was referring to the place where a bus accident claimed the lives of 89 Regina Coeli students on 3 August 1991.
It also came hours after another accident claimed the lives of 36 Masvingo-bound ZCC church members in Chimanimani about 5km before the Jopa turn-off.
The overloaded St Charles Lwanga High School bus experienced brake failure around 11 PM on Thursday before it veered off the road and rolled over 200 metres downslope.

4 Mugodhi Congregants Killed, 14 Injured In Kombi Crash

The Zimbabwean Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) have said traditional leaders in Nyanga, Manicaland Province, are persecuted for wearing anything red between June and September. In a statement seen by Pindula News, the lawyers said In his jurisdiction, one Village Head, Misheck Dirorimwe, does not allow his subjects to wear anything red from the month of September to June and anyone who violates the directives is fined. The traditional leader recently took the unprecedented and bizarre decision in which he ordered an 85-year-old villager, Munashe Makunura of Tamunesa village, to pay US$20, four goats and two chickens after faulting him for allowing his grandson, who had visited him, to wear a red cap, a practice which is outlawed by Misheck Dirorimwe, the Village Head.
In his jurisdiction, the Village Head does not allow his subjects to wear anything red from the month of September to June.

Persecution Of Citizens In Nyanga Reach New Levels - Lawyers

A Nyanga man decommissioned a grinding mill that he bought in 2019 and dumped it in nearby bushes after spiritual healers told him that the machine was bringing misfortune to his family.
Phillip Mafemera of Mazarura Village in Nyanga was left homeless after his entire homestead was razed down by a mysterious fire that started in broad daylight.
Spiritual healers had warned him that the grinding mill he bought from a neighbour was causing mysterious occurrences at his home.
Mafemera lost his bedroom, granary and the structure which housed the grinding mill to the fire.
He said he dumped the grinding mill in the bush because the family that sold him the mill was refusing to take it back.
Mafemera was recently brought before acting Chief Saunyama’s court after Charles Chibvuri caught him performing rituals with maize-meal at his house.
The accused did not deny the allegations and said he was forced to perform the rituals after the Chibvuri family had refused to take back their grinding mill which he believes is cursed. Said Mafemera:

For two years, they have been refusing to take back their grinding mill even though it was causing mysterious things at my home. Every night, I would see the shadow of a man at the grinding mill.
We have endured the scary occurrences for a long time. The shadow acts as someone guarding the grinding mill. At times the shadow would chase us.
The grinding mill never worked ever since I bought it. Mechanics would tell me that it was in perfect working condition, but it still did not work.
That is when I consulted spiritual healers who told me that there was a need for spiritual cleansing as the grinding mill was cursed.
They are the ones who told me that there was a shadow watching me ever since I bought the grinding mill.

Mafemera said Madzibaba Anthony Chirangeni instructed him to take grounded maize-meal to Chibvuri’s home and perform some rituals.
He said the spiritual healer warned him that if he did not return the grinding mill to its owner, someone would die in his family.
The traditional court ordered the Chibvuri family to restitute the three cattle used by Mafemera to buy the grinding mill.
On his part, Mafemera was fined six beasts for performing rituals at a neighbour’s homestead without their consent.
In an interview with The Manica Post, Chibvuri denied the allegations that his family sold Mafemera a cursed grinding mill.
He said when the grinding mill was sold to Mafemera, it was in good working condition and the issue was that he was no longer able to maintain it.
Chibvuri criticised the judgement as unfair, saying he should have been made to reimburse Mafemera part of the payment that he made because he used the grinding mill for two years.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed an accident that happened along Nyanga-Rwenya road on Thursday morning. In a statement, ZRP said:

The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 36 km peg along Nyanga-Rwenya Rd, Nyanga on 24/02/22 at about 0523 hours. A motorist, who was driving an Isuzu 850 lorry, with five passengers on board, lost control of the vehicle and sideswiped a stationary Toyota Hiace vehicle. The lorry overturned once and landed on its roof in a ditch. The driver of the lorry and three passengers died on the spot. Bodies of the victims were referred to Nyanga District Hospital for post-mortem and names will be announced after their next of kin have been advised.

Earlier, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), in a statement seen by Pindula News, said four members of the OPC who were part of an Office Team delivering goods for the less privileged in Ruwangwe Community under the First Lady’s Community Assistance and Empowerment Programme.
The statement said the State Residences truck overturned and the four died on the accident scene, and two other officers sustained serious injuries and have since been evacuated to Regina Coeli Mission Hospital, sustaining serious injuries.

Four Members Of The Office Of The President And Cabinet Die In Accident

A 19-year-old Nyanga man recently appeared before Acting Chief Saunyama’s court for dating a married woman, Ruth Manhimanzi, who is aged 21.
The teenager, Peter Mutonhora, of Dumba Village was fined a cow by the chief’s court.
He will, however, perform three months of unpaid work at Mount Melleray Mission Hospital after pleading with the chief for a lesser sentence.
Mutonhora told the traditional court that Manhimanzi had tricked him into believing that she was an unmarried virgin. He said:

I am still young and do not have any cattle. I did not know that she is married. In fact, l thought she was a virgin.
</blockquote>
Mutonhora further claimed that he would chat with Mandimanzi from 7 pm to around midnight as he believed that she was single. He said:
<blockquote>
She was always available when I wanted to talk to her over the phone. We would talk late at night.
It is rare to find a married woman entertaining other men during those hours. 
Because of that, I believed that she was unattached and continued my relationship with her.
Where was this alleged husband when I was talking to her at midnight?

Asked whether he had not noticed that Ruth was heavily pregnant, Mutonhora said he wasn’t aware that she was pregnant. He said:

However, Manhimanzi told the court that she revealed her marital status to the teenager but he would have none of it. She said:

Manhimanzi’s husband only identified as Raphael (28), said initially he had a dream that revealed his wife’s shenanigans. He told the court:

I told her about my dream and she dismissed it as hogwash. I told her that if indeed it was true, I would catch her in no time.

He said he realised that his wife was always chatting with someone on her phone late into the night. Said, Raphael:

I took her phone and discovered her affair with Mutonhora. I started texting Mutonhora using her phone and he would respond.
I saw a message where they were planning to meet in the bushes. I followed them and caught them in each other’s arms.

Raphael said that during Mutonhora and his wife’s affair, the two had not indulged in sexual intercourse, hence his decision to forgive his wife.

'I Thought She Was A Virgin', Says Teen Caught In Married Woman's Arms

A Nyanga woman suspected to be a witch was Saturday night caught stark naked at a neighbour’s homestead in Sedze Village in Nyanga.
Mavis Nyambuya, who was accompanied by her two-year-old nephew who was also naked, was found wandering the homestead of her would-be victim, Memory Mahowa.
The Weekender learnt that Mahowa sought the assistance of self-confessed Mutare-based spiritual healer, Madzibaba Stephen Nzira to protect her homestead from merchants of the underworld, in a practice loosely known as ‘kuisa munamato’.
Madzibaba Nzira confirmed the incident and told The Weekender that Mahowa sought his services after her children began experiencing weird happenings such as waking up with strange markings on their hands. Madzibaba Nzira said:

It was a clear case of witchcraft. I did not disclose to them that their neighbour was behind these strange happenings.
I gave her some water to sprinkle around her house among other instructions. This was to act as a ‘fireguard’ from unwelcomed visitors like Nyambuya.
When Nyambuya was trapped, she was in the company of her two-year-old nephew whom I believe was being initiated into the practice. The child also had some marks on her hand.

The terrified and cornered Nyambuya screamed for help attracting a huge crowd that demanded for instant justice.
The police’s swift reaction saved her.
A recorded video of Nyambuya begging for forgiveness and crying while seated on the ground with the young girl has gone viral on social media platforms. She is heard pleading:

People are praying.
This place is holy. I am feeling hot. I am sorry about this. Please forgive me. My other colleagues have escaped.

Villagers expressed shock at Nyambuya’s move to recruit a young child into the witchcraft world.
Acting Chief Saunyama, said although he was yet to get finer details of the matter, he would summon Nyambuya to his court.
He said that Nyambuya will have to pay a fine of not less than three beasts if found guilty and she also faces banishment. 
Popular Nyanga exorcist and traditional healer, Shingirai Mukotsanjera on Tuesday said that was pure witchcraft and this child was being initiated into witchcraft.

Witch Caught At Her Neighbour's Homestead

A man from Nyanga, Manicaland Province, recently confessed before a traditional court that he was a wizard and had acquired the charms from a Malawian traditional healer based in Marondera.
Isaiah Munembe’s relatives are now baying for his blood and demanding that he releases them from his wizardry web.
Munembe’s relatives brought him to Chief Saunyama’s court, with his younger brother, Anthony Munembe, and his sister-in-law Maybe Saunyama accusing him of sending his snake to kill their child, Anthony Junior.
Anthony Junior died recently from a snake bite and two weeks after his burial, the snake was spotted at the Munembe homestead attempting to attack his two siblings. In his confession before Chief Saunyama’s court, Isaiah said:
<blockquote>I used to walk on a wire and I was famous because of the theatrics. I had a large following but little to show for it.
However, after getting some ‘anointment oil’, my financial fortunes changed.
I did not know that by applying python oil every night, the snake was finding its way into my life and setting base at my family home in Nyanga.
Little did I also know that I was being initiated into wizardry. While everyone was fast asleep, I would be up and roaming the village</blockquote>
Isaiah also told the court that he did not know if he was the one responsible for the death of his nephew.
However, Anthony Junior’s mother told the court that after her son was bitten by the snake, Munembe came looking for it and told them where to bury the deceased and the disappeared.
A Nyanga traditional healer, Sekuru Shingirayi Mukotsanjera, removed a stone, a needle, marijuana, and a small mirror from Isaiah’s body.
During the session with Sekuru Mukotsanjera, Munembe shocked everyone when he allegedly removed a sewing needle from his relative only identified as Mai Ndlovu.
Mai Ndlovu had reportedly been complaining of pain in her knee for many years.

Nyanga 'Python Man' 'Confesses' To Wizardry

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said its members are working to bring to book individuals who <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/bodies-of-two-missing-students-found-in-disused-toilet-pit/">killed two minors in Nyanga District about five days ago.</a>
Police say they are still investigating the gruesome murder of two seven-year-old cousins Melisa and Delaney Benza.
Police provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Chinyoka told ZTN that they are “doing everything in our capacity to bring the culprits to book”. Said Chinyoka:
<blockquote>We are still conducting investigations and will make sure these criminals are brought to book.</blockquote>
The duo went missing on Tuesday after lessons at Saint Robert Mbaza Primary school and their bodies were found on Wednesday with deep cuts on the necks and their uniforms were blood-stained but all their body parts were intact.
Reports suggest that the suspects waylaid the two cousins on their way from Mbaza Primary School, about 4km from home.
They slit their throats and stashed their bodies in a blair toilet at a deserted homestead. Detectives believe the murders were for ritual purposes.
The murders come barely a month after had Zimbabwe witnessed the burial of another seven-year-old ritual murder victim, Tapiwa Makore of Murewa.
It is widely believed that ritualists use human parts as wealth-enhancing charms, among other devilish purposes.
