The opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) aspiring Harare South Ward 12 councillor Ranganayi Mupakati has been acquitted of charges of assaulting a ZANU PF aspiring councillor in the same ward.
This comes after the state failed to provide satisfactory evidence of the crime.
According to the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, the State called the evidence of three witnesses, including the complainant and two other ZANU PF supporters.
However, their testimonies not only failed to collaborate but they also failed to challenge Mupakati’s statement.
Allegations were that Mupakati assaulted Simon Munzanga who was the aspiring ZANU PF councillor with fists and open hands during the election period on 10 August 2023.
The accused, through his lawyer, Bianca Mahere, of the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, applied for discharge at the close of the State case.
The application was granted by Mbare provincial magistrate, Batanai Madzingira who also acquitted Mupakati.
The court agreed with the defence counsel that the State had not made a convincing case against the accused person and failed to rebut the accused’s evidence.

CCC Aspiring Councillor Acquitted Of Political Violence Charges

The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops have expressed concern about the constant threat to peace in the country. They stated that the threat does not come from war, but from new challenges that disturb people’s calm and tranquillity. They highlighted the high levels of crime, an increase in armed robberies, and domestic violence within families. In a pastoral letter seen by Pindula News, they mentioned the perpetual state of being in an election mood, which brings fear and unease. They noted that elections in Zimbabwe are often marked by violence. We present the letter below:

The Coming of Christ; “The Prince of Peace”
“For the child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on his shoulders; And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”(Isaiah 9:6).
1. Dear Brothers and Sisters, Men and Women of good will, as the Church begins the Season of Advent, we your shepherds and fellow citizens would like to exhort and reflect with you on this Holy season. Advent is in many ways a season of contradictions. In terms of the Church calendar we are at the beginning of the new Church year and yet civilly we are in the last month of the calendar. Socially, the season is lived in the frenzy of shopping getting ourselves ready for Christmas. Spiritually, we are preparing for the coming of Christ. We remember the Lord’s promise that he will come at the end of time. We also remember that Christ once came and inhabited our common home: mother earth. That was when he was born in Bethlehem of Judea.
2. Christ’s first coming was heralded by the prophets who called him the “Prince of Peace.” At his birth the angels sang “Glory to God in the highest and peace to people of good will. Though Advent presents us with many themes for reflection, the theme of peace seems to be the most imposing one. Globally, we are in a world that has seen a prolonged war between Russia and Ukraine. As if that was not enough, we now have another war in Israel and Palestine. Our own continent is not exempt. In its different regions we have pockets of violence that have seen many people living as the internally displaced or refugees.
3. As a nation our peace is constantly under threat. Not that there is a war threat, far from that, but we are seeing new threats to people’s calm and tranquility, which is what the Hebrew word for peace, “Shalom” entails. There is a high level of crime in many communities. We have seen the upsurge of armed robberies. Gender-based violence in families is on the rise. Politically, we seem to be perpetually in the election mood, a reality that in this country, sends a shudder down the spine. For our elections are characterized by violence.
4. Before and during the elections we made a plea for peace. We emphasized the dignity of the human person, the importance of tolerance, co-existence and suggested the politics of persuasion. We would like to express our gratitude to all citizens who did heed the message of peace. The past election was indeed different. It was not characterized by violence. That should be applauded. Though this is not to say there was no violence. We had hoped that as a nation we had seen the light and we were beginning to appreciate each other as citizens with divergent views and people of different persuasions, men and women who can rise above their differences. Sadly, as reported by the different election observers, our elections left a lot to be desired. They were characterized by a new form of violence: refusal to let the nation’s voices be heard through the ballot. That act of robbing people of their voices is a form of violence that should be condemned by all people of integrity, by all loving and peaceful citizens.
5. In the post-election period most of the gains that we had made; the promotion of peace, diffusing the tensions between various political players and their supporters were lost. There were retributions targeting those who were perceived to have voted wrongly, whatever that means! With the recent political recalls of the elected members of parliament, senators and councilors, the nation has been thrust into a new form of violence: people rightfully elected, can wantonly be recalled. It would seem the voices of the people who voted can easily be ignored. as if they were insignificant. Were those elected not given the mandate by the people? What happens when the people’s voices are silenced by the masters of political expediency? One thing for certain is that people feel they are not respected and listened to. This breeds tensions and many who have no ways of diffusing them bottle them up. This is not healthy for people and the society. If it is true that. ‘an injury to one of us is an injury to all of us; then we are all living in a wounded Society.
6. What d worse is what these recalls have unearthed. Apart from holding all of us in the dreaded perpetual election mode. they have given birth to violence. Even those who, for a short while, had shunned violence. have fallen back on their default position of violent campaigns. People are being abducted, brutalized and left for dead. Recently, a life was lost because of politics What is the objective of this violence? Is it to terrorize people into voting for a particular candidate or not to vote at all? We would like to reiterate what we said before the August elections when we directed our plea to the citizens “…Refuse to oe used in violent attacks against your fellow brothers and sisters. Any party or politician that incites violence or persuades you to loin in violent attacks, is not worthy of your vote. Give your vote to those who deserve it’ To the politicians we said,” _Peace begins with each one of us. In your roles, be ambassadors of peace. Let no blood be shed in your name and for your vote. Remember, “The bloodshed in the land cries out to God (Gen. 4: 10).
7. Together as we prepare to welcome Christ at Christmas, let us remember that when the “Prince of Peace.- and that He Hour Peace. The peace of Christ finds abode. In those who are calm and enjoy tranquility, it also embraces what the ancient Greeks said peace entails- unity and accord. Calm and tranquility, unity and accord are not far from our reach, we can achieve these if once again we recognise the dignity of the human person, something that Christ upheld by choosing to be born In human form and being in solidarity with us which is what his coming as “The Prince of Peace,” entails: ‘He identifies with us in all things but sin’ (Hebrews 4:15).
8. This Advent we once again appeal to our political leaders to denounce politically motivated violence. To the law enforcement agents, bring perpetrators of political violence to book. To the legislators, revisit the enacted laws that can easily be manipulated at the expense of the people’s basic rights and freedoms. It Is in the same vein that we would like to remind everyone that we all have a duty to work for the promotion of peace and to be agents of peace. We all need peace. Lack of peace has a negative effect on our country. Economically, it works against all our ideals of a middle Income economy and the realization of vision 2030. Socially, it breeds animosity and creates a divided nation. Spiritually, it robs us of our identity as the sons and daughters of God for, ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called the sons of God’ (Matthew 5:9).
9. In this reflection we would like to exhort all peace4oving Zimbabweans to pray for peace particularly in our land and everywhere in solidarity with other people in other parts of the world which are troubled Let us work to foster peace, the greatest good that facilitates the development of nations and the progress of people. May the Lord look with a kindly countenance on our efforts to promote and build peace. We pray for all those whose mandate In the land is to safeguard the rights of our people that they may never tire in working for the creation of peaceful environments. May Christ, ‘the Prince of Peace’ who Is our Peace come and transform our attitudes and make all of us instruments of his peace.
We wish you a blessed Advent season and the peace of Christmas.

Full Text: "As A Nation Our Peace Is Constantly Under Threat" - Catholic Bishops

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) has condemned cases of politically motivated violence and intimidation of voters in the Gutu West constituency allegedly by ZANU PF Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) activists.
 The Gutu West by-election will be held on 11 November 2023 bringing the National Assembly of the 10th Parliament up to its full membership of 280 seats.
Elections in the constituency could not be held on 23 August following the death of one of the nominated candidates, Christopher Mutonhori Rwodzi.
In a Press statement issued this Tuesday, 07 November, ZimRights identified one Rashiel Bere from Ward 6 as one of the perpetrators of voter intimidation. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) notes with concern the rising cases of political intimidation and violence in Ward 41, Gutu West Constituency ahead of the national assembly by-elections scheduled for the 11th of November 2023.
ZimRights community human rights monitors have documented and reported an increase in this phenomenon. The alleged perpetrators are members of the ruling party (ZANU-PF) and its affiliates.
Political Intimidation is the use of threats, coercion, or attempts to intimidate for the purpose of interfering with the right of another person to vote or to vote for the person of their choice.
ZimRights community human rights monitors in Masvingo received allegations that ZANU-PF member, Rashiel Bere from Ward 6, Mukwasi primary school, also a member of the Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) organization is moving around with ZANU-PF aspiring candidates intimidating villagers and threatening to burn their houses if they vote for the opposition party.
This worrying trend threatens to derail citizens’ participation in democratic processes, resulting in voter apathy and anarchy.
Political intimidation poses a threat to democracy, human rights, social cohesion, and progress.
Rashiel Bere who is also allegedly selling out opposition party supporters in ward 41 Gutu West to the FAZ organisation advised all women and elderly people to act illiterate and not vote in the upcoming elections but submit their names to FAZ so that FAZ votes on their behalf.
In another case reported from the Chatsworth shopping center in Gutu, a CCC member was beaten by ZANU-PF supporters after he was seen wearing a CCC T-shirt.
The victim said one of the men who assaulted him is the young brother of ZANU-PF MP Candidate John Paradza, well known as (Boss Para).
This is a sad confirmation of the findings of the ZimRights 2022 State of Peace Report, which highlights that over 50% of Zimbabweans are living in fragile peace, fearing the elections.
It is against this background that ZimRights condemns, in strongest terms, the acts of political intimidation as it is in violation of citizens’ right to form, join, and participate in the activities of a political party and to make political choices freely as protected by Section 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

ZimRights Concerned Over Rise In Cases Of Political Violence In Gutu West

The Nkayi Community Parliament (NCP) has condemned the victimisation of MDC polling agents by suspected ZANU PF activists.
The attacks came after the MDC losing candidate for Nkayi North, Chief Ndlovu, filed a High Court application challenging ZANU PF candidate Sithembiso Nyoni’s victory saying the elections were not free and fair.
Reports claim that ZANU PF activists with links to the shadowy <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Forever_Associates_Zimbabwe">Forever Associate Zimbabwe</a> (FAZ) have been attacking polling agents who may be witnesses in the court challenge.
NCP speaker Nhlanhla Moses Ncube was quoted by the <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200017720/attacks-against-opposition-supporters-in-nkayi-condemned">Southern Eye</a> as saying the attacks against MDC members suggest that the elections were not free and fair. Said Ncube:

This behaviour could be signalling that there was gross thuggery by ZANU PF in Nkayi North.
If they committed no foul play, why are they attacking witnesses?
As the NCP, we strongly condemn such reckless behaviour by ZANU PF which has the potential to harm the image of the country both locally and internationally.
We call upon Nyoni to take action against her supporters and party members.
We know that when children misbehave, it is their parents who are complicit.

Ndlovu said they have made a police report, but ZRP spokesperson in Matabeleland North Province Inspector Glory Banda said he had not yet received the report.
Meanwhile, in his application, Ndlovu through his lawyer Lovemore Madhuku, said more than 1 500 voters in Nkayi North were assisted to vote describing the high number as “wholly unrealistic”.
Nyoni won the election with 5 492 votes, Ndlovu polled 4 065 votes, and CCC’s Mandla Ndlovu garnered 3 110 votes.

Civic Group Condemns Victimisation Of MDC Supporters In Nkayi North

Zimbabwe’s main opposition party, the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has criticised Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga over his remarks concerning the alleged murder of party activist Tinashe Edson Chitsunge on 03 August 2023 in Glen View 7, Harare.
According to reported eyewitness accounts, Chitsunge was stoned to death by suspected ZANU PF activists.
However, addressing delegates on an election observer mission in Harare on Wednesday, Matanga asserted that Chitsunge was run over by a truck that belonged to CCC.
In a statement issued this Thursday, CCC said Matanga’s remarks are “disheartening and regrettable.” Said the party:

This comment from the Police Commissioner General, who is supposed to be the moral compass, is both disheartening and regrettable.
It is a widely known fact that our member, Tafadzwa Chitsunge, was brutally attacked and killed by individuals associated with the ZANU PF party.
The Commissioner’s lack of honesty is evident, as his officers have already arrested and issued fake charges against over 10 individuals directly involved in this atrocious crime.
Were these individuals driving the same truck that Mr. Matanga alleged tragically ran over our member?
We demand an ethical and accountable police force, one that does not engage in propagating the agenda of any political party.
Our government will have a police service that serves and protects everyone.

Police say they have arrested 15 people so far in connection with Chitsunge’s death. The suspects were charged with a lesser charge of public violence and were freed on bail.

CCC Castigates Police Boss Over Claims "Murdered" Activist Tinashe Chitsunge Was Run Over By Truck

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has warned that the Government will show no mercy to individuals who engage in politically-motivated violence ahead of the 23 August 2023 general elections.
Chiwenga made the remarks while addressing ZANU PF supporters in Stoneridge, Harare South constituency on Monday, 24 July. He was quoted by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200014440/no-mercy-for-violence-perpetrators-chiwenga">NewsDay</a> as saying:

What we expect is the peace, unity and love that you have maintained till today. We want peace till the voting day. We want love, unity and tolerance among ourselves as Zimbabweans.
That way we are going to shame what has been happening all these years. That is not going to happen again.
Those bent on violence will get your VIP ticket to Chikurubi [Maximum Security Prison]. We are not going to be merciful.
Elections are coming on August 23. The father will remain the father, mother, wife, grandfather, aunt or nephew.
So why should we attack each other? Are we not Zimbabweans? Let’s unite the children of Munhumutapa.
We are the most literate State in Africa. Why should we downgrade ourselves? What happened in the past remains in the past. We no longer want to see that in our country.
</blockquote>
Chiwenga claimed that Zimbabwe has the fasted GDP growth, not only in southern Africa but in the world, adding that the Government has managed to stabilise prices of goods and services.
He said the ZANU PF-led Government has made significant progress on infrastructure development in the past five years. Said Chiwenga: 
<blockquote>
Dams are now everywhere. We are not just constructing but at every dam, we are generating electricity.
If the construction of the Tugwi-Mukosi and Mutirikwi hydroelectricity stations in Masvingo are completed, we won’t be solely relying on electricity from Kariba or Hwange. It will be a standalone [project].
The Hwange units 7 and 8 to be commissioned by the head of State has enabled us to stop importing electricity.
There is no longer load shedding. If they switch off, it will be because of maintenance. We now have enough electricity.
</blockquote>
However, Zimbabweans continue to experience load shedding almost on a daily basis but for short periods of time compared to late last year into the first half of 2023 when the power cuts lasted more than 18 hours.

Chikurubi Prison Awaits Perpetrators Of Violence - Chiwenga

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Deputy Minister Barbara Rwodzi was recorded verbally assaulting a senior police officer who arrested a ZANU PF supporter for pulling down CCC posters.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200014147/minister-police-boss-in-heated-tantrum">NewsDay</a> reported that Rwodzi insulted the police officer as he was preparing a docket against the ZANU PF supporter, only known as Danger who is believed to be part of her campaign team.
In a three and half minute’s audio, Rwodzi is heard calling Assistant Inspector Matsa, based at Charandura Police Station, a “stupid idiot”.
The Chirumanzu South MP also threatened to deal with the police officer.
Rwodzi told the senior cop that she will deal with him “in front of (Godwin) Matanga”, the Police Commissioner-General. She was recorded saying:

I will finish with you. Do you think CCC will win? Urimbwa (you are a dog), you are stupid go and report wherever you want.
I am going to finish you, Matsa. I will fight you to the end. Urimbwa (you are a dog).

The police officer, however, stood his ground insisting that he was only doing his job. He said:
<blockquote>
Mai Rwodzi, you don’t have to be personal and call me stupid.
</blockquote>
But Rwodzi told the cop that he should report her for calling him an idiot.
She said he should have discussed the matter with his superior and other officers at the station before opening a docket against a ZANU PF activist.
Rwodzi also said she will not be lectured about laws because she was responsible for making laws in the country as a Member of Parliament.

Minister Calls A Senior Cop "Stupid" And "A Dog" For Arresting ZANU PF Activist

Violence broke out in parts of Mashonaland West Province this week as ZANU PF members from rival camps attacked each other ahead of the party’s primary elections.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200009230/zanu-pf-turns-mash-west-into-war-zone">NewsDay</a> reported that violence rocked Sanyati and Chegutu West where Mines deputy minister Polite Kambamura and Dexter Nduna are the sitting Members of Parliament, respectively.
Reports suggest that some ZANU PF supporters have fled from their homes following the violence that flared up at Kasirisiri business centre in Sanyati on Tuesday.
Kambamura is being challenged by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s lawyers, Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba and Gokwe-Nembudziya MP Justice Mayor Wadyajena’s younger brother, Tatenda.
A video of Magwaliba attacking Kambamura’s supporters also emerged.
Beauty Jeremiah, who is the ZANU PF Kasirisiri district chairperson, accused Magwaliba of sponsoring the violence. She said:

Magwaliba’s supporters have been going around threatening to come during the night and abduct Kambamura’s supporters and some people are now afraid of staying at their homes.
His (Magwaliba) supporters are threatening those who support Kambamura, unleashing violence while boasting that he is Mnangagwa’s lawyer and that he will cause the release of his supporters who would have been arrested.
</blockquote>
Jeremiah also alleged that two teenage boys were stabbed for refusing to chant Magwaliba’s slogans at a rally the aspiring MP was addressing at Kasirisiri business centre on Tuesday.
However, Magwaliba denied fuelling the violence, adding that four of his supporters were attacked by Kambamura’s supporters. He said:

One was chopped by an axe, another shot by a catapult, while the other two were stoned.
Kambamura’s supporters ambushed my supporters as we tried to attend to someone they had axed and caused mayhem.
I have not been retaliating. His supporters have been threatening my supporters. I preach peace at my rallies. 
Our innocent supporter was arrested and accused of assaulting Jeremiah. He has been released.
All I can say is that Kambamura has been sponsoring violence.

The ZANU PF primary elections were initially scheduled for last week but were called off at the last minute.
They are being conducted this Saturday in 8 of the country’s 10 provinces, with Midlands and Masvingo set to hold the elections on Sunday.

Violence Breaks Out Between Rival ZANU PF Camps

ZANU PF Harare Provincial Commissar Kudakwashe Damson was barred from participating in the upcoming primary elections for allegedly assaulting Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) officials who were on duty conducting voter education in Epworth recently, reported <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/primaries-get-all-clear/">The Herald</a>.
Damson is facing charges of contravening the Electoral Act by obstructing ZEC proceedings. He was remanded to 5 April on a $50 000 bail.
This was said by ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Christopher Mutsvangwa while addressing the media at a post-extraordinary Politburo session in Harare on Monday, 20 March. Said Mutsvangwa:

We await the justice system to guide us in decision-making. Cde Damson, the PC for Harare province was disqualified.
We hope he will accept the decision. He still has a future in the party and is a hard worker.
The President stresses that the party is bigger than individuals.
This also goes to show that there is zero tolerance for violence There is zero tolerance against corruption and violence.

He also said the Politburo approved at least 99.9 percent of CVs of aspiring primary elections candidates.
Mutsvangwa said President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is the ZANU PF First Secretary, will soon announce the dates of the primaries.

ZANU PF Official Barred From Primaries For Assaulting ZEC Officials

The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum) has urged the Police to deal with perpetrators of politically-motivated violence.
This comes after seven Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) employees were allegedly assaulted by ZANU PF activists on Monday in Epworth for wearing yellow reflectors while conducting voter education. The Forum said:

7 Zimbabwe Electoral Commission staffers were assaulted by ZANU-PF activists in Epworth on 13 March for wearing yellow reflectors while conducting voter education in the dormitory town.
They were bundled in a combi and assaulted by the activists led by Kudakwashe Damison, a ZANU-PF losing candidate in the 2018 polls before being dumped at Epworth Police Station.

ZEC on Sunday, 12 March commenced a mobile voter registration exercise ahead of the 2023 general elections.
ZEC said that the outreach will take place at over 21 000 centres nationwide until March.
Prospective voters are required to carry their Identity Card – metal, plastic or waiting pass with the holder’s picture – or a valid passport.
Proof of residence is required but where a prospective voter does not have one, they can sign an affidavit at the registration centre.

ZANU PF Activists Assault ZEC Employees In Epworth | Report

Police say they are investigating incidents of politically motivated violence that occurred at CCC rallies in Chivi, Masvingo Province, and Gokwe North, Midlands Province yesterday (Sunday).
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said one person has been arrested in connection with the violence that rocked a CCC meeting at Nembudzia Government High School in Gokwe North District. He said:

The ZRP confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with the political violence incident which occurred at Nembudzia Government High School grounds on 12 February 2023.
One suspect has been arrested as the investigations continue.
The ZRP is also investigating the circumstances which led to public violence during a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) rally at Chivi open grounds in Masvingo Province on 12 February 2023.

Police Probe Violence Incidents At CCC Rallies In Chivi And Gokwe

Several ZANU PF supporters were allegedly assaulted and seriously injured by suspected CCC activists at Mtora Growth Point, Gokwe-Nembudziya, on Sunday, 12 February.
According to <a href="https://zbcnews.co.zw/2023/02/12/znu-pf-supporters-attacked-by-ccc-members-in-gokwe/">ZBC News</a>, the injured ZANU PF supporters were ferried to Gokwe North District Hospital for medical attention.
The ZANU PF members were reportedly attending a voter registration mobilisation and awareness meeting when they attacked.
The ruling party has condemned the attack which it blamed on the Citizens’ Coalition for Change. ZANU PF <a href="https://twitter.com/ZANUPF_Official/status/1624829585803051008">tweeted</a>:

We condemn in strongest terms, the violence meted out against our supporters in Gokwe by Mr. Chamisa’s CCC hooligans. That has no place in our society.

Police were yet to issue a statement, but reports indicate that one person has been arrested.

ZANU PF Members Attacked By Suspected CCC Activists In Gokwe

A ZANU PF official in Kwekwe, Midlands Province, says Kwekwe Central MP, Judith Tobaiwa (CCC), should not be allowed to make any public addresses in the city, including at funerals, <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/kwekwe-zanu-pf-vows-to-bar-ccc-mp-from-addressing-gatherings-including-funerals/">reported NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
Addressing a recent inter-district meeting, ZANU PF administrative head for Kwekwe District Jacob Chokururama, said:

We have shadow MPS and Councillors in our city. Give them an opportunity to make the addresses.
Don’t allow her (Tobaiwa) to address even at funerals. Why are you giving her that opportunity to address?

ZANU PF has failed to win Kwekwe Central over the past few general elections and Chokururama said this should come to an end. He said:

As Kwekwe Central we must look into the issue. Let us vote in such a way that will make our President sleep peacefully.
Let us vote in such a manner that will perpetuate ZANU PF rule. In Judith Tobaiwa we don’t have an MP.
This time around let us go back to the basics and vote for the party. We don’t want a repeat of what happened.

Chokururama also complained that CCC was enjoying unfettered freedom in Kwekwe. He said:

If we give people freedom, they tend to forget where we came from. How do we pay homage, to those long departed whose remains are scattered in Zambia and Mozambique? It’s by voting for ZANU PF.
Everyone is now a political commissar, go and campaign for ZANU PF to win.
We mustn’t label each other or finger-pointing. We mustn’t fight against each other. Let’s be united.
We mustn’t be given a headache by a party without structures. It’s someone’s personal company, not a party.
They brought sanctions so that we will fight amongst ourselves.
Chamisa’s party doesn’t even have its own constitution. This time around we are reclaiming our seat.

ZANU PF Vows To Bar Kwekwe Central CCC MP From Addressing Gatherings

The Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) says it wants elections, not war following a series of attacks targeting its supporters in recent days.
Several elderly CCC supporters were brutally assaulted by suspected ZANU PF officials in Murewa (Murehwa) recently while on Saturday CCC members were arrested in Budiriro while conducting a private CCC meeting at the home of Costa Machingauta, an MP.
Speaking to NewsDay on Sunday, CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said they have raised their concerns with independent commissions. Said Mahere:

The latest incident is what transpired in Budiriro on Saturday. The political violence is confirmation that their backs are against the wall. We reiterate that we want elections, not war.
This should be a battle of ideas and not broken bones. To beat innocent citizens and women is an unconstitutional breach of dignity and Ubuntu.
We have put the region on notice. We have engaged the Chapter 12 Commissions.
We will leave no stone unturned to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

We Want Elections Not War - CCC

The Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference (ZCBC) has condemned the recent violence perpetrated against elderly villagers in Murehwa North perceived to be CCC supporters by suspected ZANU PF activists.
In a statement issued on 12 January 2023, and signed by ZCBC president Rt. Rev Paul Horan and vice president Rt. Rev Raymond Mupandasekwa, the bishops demanded the arrest and prosecution of the assailants as well as the provision of support to the victims of the violence by authorities. Reads the statement:

We the members of the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference (ZCBC) would want to condemn the barbaric act of violence captured on a video that circulated on social media over the weekend. 
The most disturbing thing is that the violent acts are meted out against senior citizens, people who should be enjoying the rights brought about by our independence. 
What is more worrisome is that the violence captured in the video is politically related. A voice can be heard asking the senior citizens as to what a particular political party has done for them. 
As the nation heads towards the harmonized elections, we urge all political players to desist from the use of violence and the use of young people to commit violent crimes. 
Violence should not be employed to gain political mileage. The people’s fundamental rights should be respected at all times. 
Citizens of this nation have rights enshrined in our Constitution. Among those rights is the freedom of choice, association and political rights.
We would like to urge all parties to be responsible in their campaigns. Sell to the people your ideologies, and convince them with your arguments. As you do so, respect their choices. 
There is no citizen who should be intimidated or coerced, and worse still, be beaten to make a choice. That speaks against human dignity. 
As a nation we have in the past seen a lot of violence around elections; let this election be different.
The people of this country dream and yearn for a free, credible and fair election. It’s not the casting of ballots that ascertains that, it’s the environment we create before, during and after elections. 
It is therefore incumbent on the government, political parties, and all institutions that we create a level playing field. 
Equal opportunities should be given to all who want to participate in this coming election. There should be no fear or favour. 
Heinous violent crimes such as the one captured on the ‘Murehwa video’ should be condemned by all parties.
We, therefore, call for zero tolerance to violence. The culture of violence speaks against the moral fabric of our society. 
To curb nurturing such a culture we call upon the government through its various institutions to bring the perpetrators of violence to justice and may the victims of that violence be protected and given the necessary care.

Catholic Bishops Condemn Murewa North Violence

Police have arrested two more suspects in connection with the assault of elderly CCC supporters in Murewa North constituency recently.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the two suspects as Paul Kachigu (34) and Dignity Nadzo (31). Said Asst Comm Nyathi:

Reference is made to the ZRP’s press statement dated 10/01/23. The ZRP confirms the arrest of two other suspects, Paul Kachigu (34) and Dignity Nadzo (31) in connection with the case of alleged political violence which occurred in Murewa North on 06/01/23.

Police Arrest Two More Suspects Over Murewa North Violence

CCC has blamed remarks by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga for violence against the opposition party’s supporters by ZANU PF youths in the Murewa North constituency recently.
The brutal assault, which was apparently filmed by one of the assailants, showed elderly opposition supporters being flogged, kicked and stepped on for supporting CCC.
CCC national spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the violence should be understood in the context of past utterances by Mnangagwa and Chiwenga. Said Mahere:

It is important to state that this is not an isolated incident, it is part of a wide pattern of violence that has permeated our electoral landscape ever since the CCC was formed on January 24, 2022.
We have seen in almost every province violence perpetrated by ZANU PF and that violence must be understood in the context that the deputy leader of ZANU PF actually called for the CC to be crushed like lice.
It is also in the context that the leader of Zanu PF actually called for CCC supporters to be beaten up, vakombei murove.
He went so far as saying we should be hunted. We have on record members of ZANU PF calling for the killing of CCC Nelson Chamisa, our members’ homes to be burnt, for them to be killed because they are sellouts.
We have seen this in Matopo, Insiza, Mberengwa, Gutu, Chipinge and this is a reaction to the mass mobilisation strategy, Mugwazo.
The CCC has penetrated every single village town and city, something ZANU PF did not expect or budget for.
Recent incidences of violence have proved that rural areas are not ZANU PF strongholds because what other explanation is there for beating 75-year-olds in their homesteads?

CCC Blames "Utterances" By Mnangagwa And Chiwenga For Murewa North Violence

ZANU PF Mashonaland East chairperson Daniel Garwe has condemned the assault of several elderly Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members in Murewa North constituency last week.
Morris Seremani (74), Susan Seremani (56), Beauty Chikoti (52), Chipo Mutizwa (37), Nyaradzai Chitauro (52), Sekuru Dongo (79) and Munyaradzi Dongo (38) were left with injuries after they were assaulted for allegedly supporting CCC.
The assault occurred in Chirowa Village, Murewa North.
Addressing ZANU PF supporters on Tuesday at Matututu shopping centre in Murewa North, Garwe said:

My colleagues, I am pained by what happened in this area. It’s something nobody here can explain what transpired because we were not all there. We said experts should go and investigate.
ZANU PF does not tolerate violence, it’s a peaceful party. That’s the only party that brought peace, there’s no other party.
In some countries you hear about terrorists and bombings, here there is peace. This peace was brought by ZANU PF.
President [Emmerson Mnangagwa] is today preaching that we should live in peace, forgive each other, and get united. The war veterans say “united we conquer”.

Garwe Condemns Murewa North Violence

<h2>Full statement by the Law Society of Zimbabwe on the escalation of political violence in the country.</h2>
<blockquote>
The Law Society of Zimbabwe, notes with grave concern reports of what seems to be an escalation of political violence in some parts of the country.
A particular incident is of a recording that is circulating on social media showing some senior citizens being beaten up for what appears to be their choice of political affiliation in Mashonaland East’s Murewa district.
While police have indicated publicly that they are investigating the case and have issued an update on the progress made to date, it is important that stakeholders raise the red flag immediately in order to have such deplorable conduct nipped in the bud. This is even more so given that we are in an election year.
The outbreak of violence is disconcerting to anyone who wishes Zimbabwe well. The scourge of political violence has continued to be a blot on our electoral processes for decades and given indications of political will to end it, it is important that decisive action be taken now to end it.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe on behalf of the profession, calls on all political leaders to commit to non-violence not only in word but also in deed.
Insincere public pronouncements against political violence will not end the vice. Politicians must stop speaking with forked tongues, declaring a commitment to a violent free election by day while coaxing their supporters to terrorise citizens by night.
Zimbabwe now more than ever needs its leaders across the political divide to show maturity and leadership.
If the country is to reap the rewards of the country’s engagement and re-engagement thrust as espoused by the government, it is important that all actions are synchronised to achieve the goals of this policy.
The right to political choice is deeply engrained in our constitution and no one has a right to vary it at a whim.
We urge police to act with speed to bring to account those implicated in the Murewa violence as a way of sending a clear message to all and sundry against such actions.

Law Society Of Zimbabwe Statement On Murewa North Political Violence | Full Text

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has expressed concern over recent reports of politically motivated violence against opposition supporters in Murewa North.
In a statement, ZCC also made reference to several other cases of politically motivated violence in 2022 during which opposition supporters were killed.
ZCC urged the police to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of violence and ensure that justice is done. Reads the statement:

1. The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) is appalled and expresses deep concern over reports of politically motivated violence, that rocked Bhunu area (Ward 4) in Murehwa North Constituency where a total of 7 people reportedly affiliated to the Opposition Political Party; Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) were brutalized. The circulating social media videos show a group of politically affiliated youths assaulting, humiliating, and victimizing the elderly CCC supporters over allegations of convening an ‘illegal’ political meeting. The Church is concerned by the inhumane treatment and serious injury caused to these elderly citizens of Zimbabwe.
2. This recent incident, while seemingly isolated, signals the deepening and intensification of systemic political violence and intimidation as we approach the 2023 elections. The incident connects with episodes of violence, political victimisation and destruction of property that occurred in Gutu District towards the end of 2022 and those that characterized the 2022 by- elections. Violent cases were reported in Matobo South Ward 2, Kwekwe, Nyatsime, Chire, Nyamaropa, Hurungwe, Gokwe Centre and Gokwe Kabuyini between March and September 2022.
3. The Church strongly condemns these acts of violence and bad politics. The Church reminds the nation that we are one, we are a family, we are friends, and we are neighbors before we are members of political parties. Our Christian values coin us to live in harmony, in peace, unity and love – respecting the elderly.
4. We remind the nation that two people (Bongeni Ncube and Moreblessing Ali) lost their lives due to political violence related to the 2022 by-elections, tens were injured, and 
5. The ZCC seeks to further remind all citizens that the Zimbabwe Constitution and laws allow for plural politics meaning the coexistence and operation of different political parties in Zimbabwe. The law allows political parties to conduct political meetings anywhere and anytime as far as these are conducted as guided by the Law. The same law does not allow political party ownership of some geographical zones or territories; thus, freedom of assembly and association is acknowledged for all without discrimination.
6. Zimbabwean youths should not be fronted by rogue political leaders to incite violence. Youths have a developmental leadership role for our country and are called to adhere to the rule of law, peacefully participate in electoral processes, particularly taking up leadership positions in the upcoming 2023 elections for them to catalyze transformation in political and economic systems of the country.
7. We refer to the ZHOCD Elections We Want (2022) document, and the Ecumenical Election Covenants which call for an election process that is peaceful and non-violent; free, fair, and credible; as well as electing leaders that have the desire, commitment, and capability of driving the socio-economic transformation of the country.
8. We all have the responsibility to contribute to an election process characterized by peace and tolerance before, during and after the elections. Such an electoral process will set the desired foundation for socio-economic transformation that result in the upliftment of our people out of the current excruciating socio-economic hardships.
9. Ours, therefore, is a Call for:
a) The police to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of violence and ensure that justice is delivered to all. We urge the police to provide details of their investigations to the public, 
b) The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to make sure that measures are put in place and reinforced to decisively deal with cases of electoral related violence as espoused in the Elections Act. ZEC is further called to allow parties to comply with the best standards for conducting political campaigns including disqualifying potential candidates if proven to have perpetrated political violence,
c) Political parties to investigate, caution, publicly condemn and punish their members who are perpetrating violence. Political party leaders must continue encouraging their supporters to remain peaceful and tolerate political diversity,
d) We encourage all political leaders to desist from barbaric politics, preach the gospel of love for one another, peaceful co-existence and adopt dialogue towards settlement of differences.
e) Convening of an urgent All Stakeholders National Peace Conference where we take stock of the national peace infrastructure, and all political parties sign an Election Peace Pact prepared by the Church working with Chapter 12 Commissions. All political actors and the security sector are encouraged to promote the upholding of individuals freedoms of movement, assembly, association, speech and access to information.
In conclusion, we ardently call for peace and tolerance. As we approach 2023 elections lets all contribute to an environment characterized by freedom to campaign, articulate issues, and participate without fear, favor, and prejudices.

Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for East and Southern Africa, Flavia Mwangovya, has condemned the brutal attacks against opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters by suspected ZANU PF activists in Murewa North recently.
Mwangovya described the attacks as “callous” and urged the Zimbabwean government to ensure that the upcoming general elections are held in a peaceful environment. Said Mwangovya:

Amnesty International Condemns "Callous" Attacks Against CCC Supporters In Murewa

An unidentified suspected ZANU PF official has declared that the ruling party is at war with the Nelson Chamisa-led Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) ahead of general elections scheduled for later this year.
In a leaked audio posted on one of ZANU PF’s many WhatsApp groups obtained by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200005979/zanu-pf-ccc-trade-blows">NewsDay</a>, the official is heard defending the violence that recently broke out in Chirowa Village, Murewa North. Said the official:

Do you know what war is? War is winner takes all and there is collateral damage. We are at war and we are going to war with CCC.
These elderly wanted to go to a meeting at their age. Don’t they know the ruling party?
They want to remove my President [Emmerson Mnangagwa]. We are going to win elections with blood or no blood.
We are not playing here. If your grandmother and grandfather put an X against the President we are going to be hanged.
We will lose and we are going to be hanged by Chamisa (Nelson Chamisa CCC leader).

These elderly are truly CCC members. It happened that one of them (Seremani) who was beaten severely was not feeling well and he had been in Harare.
He only came back on December 30 so when others heard that he came back they just mobilised themselves to go and pray for him. That’s how they got to Seremani’s home.
So, someone could have seen Seremani’s friend going to see him and thought that they were going to a party meeting and called ZANU PF alleging that these people were troublesome.
They were forced to say that they were having a party meeting, but that wasn’t the purpose of their visit.

Suspected ZANU PF Activist Declares "War" On CCC

Police at Mpandawana Growth Point in Gutu District in Masvingo Province, have arrested two CCC activists who were allegedly attacked and left for dead by suspected ZANU PF supporters two weeks ago.
The two, Tinotenda Makumbe (20) and Jervas Makumbe (45), were allegedly abducted at Mpandawana Growth Point on 22 November 2022. They now face assault charges.
They were assaulted by a group of armed ZANU PF supporters, made to lie in a pool of sewerage and left for dead.
Human Rights lawyer Martin Mureri confirmed the arrest of the two Makumbe siblings saying they will appear at Gutu Magistrates Court on Monday.
Tino and Jervas were attacked two weeks ago when suspected ZANU PF activists unleashed an orgy of violence at Mpandawana Growth Point.
The thugs went around the Growth Point armed with knives, catapults, and stones beating up people with suspected links to opposition political parties.
The Makumbe brothers reported their case at Gutu Police Station on the day that they were assaulted but Police refused to open dockets, reported The Mirror.

Police Arrest Alleged Victims Of Gutu Violence

The Residents Association Coalition for Electoral Reforms (RACER) says a partisan civil service could compromise the credibility of next year’s general elections.
RACER, a coalition of 42 rural and urban residents associations, expressed concern over the country’s civil servants’ alleged declaration of allegiance to ZANU PF and the party’s presidential candidate President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Addressing journalists in Harare on Tuesday, RACER spokesperson Marvelous Khumalo urged civil servants to remain apolitical. <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200004404/civil-servants-compromising-credibility-of-2023-polls">Said Khumalo:</a>

We call upon members of the civil service to desist from pushing partisan political agendas which is in clear violation of the Constitution, which calls for civil servants not to act in a partisan manner and to further the interests of political parties.
Civil servants have always worked as polling officers before, and that cannot be ruled out for the 2023 polls.
But how are they going to be fair when they have already shown that they are for ED who is also going to be a candidate in the 2023 polls?

Khumalo also implored the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to be impartial when dealing with cases of political violence.
Political activists have accused the police of being partisan saying the police are quick to arrest opposition supporters for politically motivated violence while turning a blind eye to ZANU PF members who cause a reign of terror in various parts of the country.
In June, CCC vice chairman Job “Wiwa” Sikhala was arrested and denied bail for allegedly inciting violence in Nyatsime<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/owen-ncube-threatens-worse-than-2008-political-violence-against-sell-outs/"> but a senior ZANU PF official, Owen “Muda” Ncube allegedly threatened to unleash an orgy of violence “worse than 2008” against opposition members</a> ahead of the 2023 general elections but has not been arrested.

"A Partisan Civil Service Compromising Credibility Of 2023 Elections"

Suspected ZANU PF activists allegedly assaulted members of the opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) at Siabuzuba Business Centre in Binga on 30 November 2022.
According to the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP), two of the victims of the assault were injured and admitted to Binga Hospital. ZPP said in a statament:

A ZANU PF campaigning team assaulted CCC members ahead of the 3 December by-elections. Two of the victims who were injured were Zuze Dube of Samende AND Delampuli of Fulunga village. They were injured and admitted at Binga Hospital.
The assailants included George Chasombwa, Jamutias, Candidate Misheck Mwinde, and MacDonald Siamwebo.
It is alleged that the assailants used logs and knobkerries to carry out the assault. Tumune the son of MP Gabhuza was beaten his CCC T-shirt was taken as he was stripped naked.
Assistant District Administrator Marinyame, a ZANU PF member, was also beaten at Kariyangwe by these unknown people around 1700hrs.

ZPP said the matter was reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

CCC Activists Attacked And Injured In Binga - ZPP

The Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has accused ZANU PF activists in Gutu of unleashing violence targetting perceived opposition members at Mupandawana Growth Point and its environs.
CCC Gutu district elections officer Lloyd Mupfudze told <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/30-displaced-as-zanu-pf-violence-mounts/">The Mirror</a> that the violence is creating a humanitarian crisis by the day with more than 30 families running away from homes and workplaces.
Mupfudze appealed to well-wishers for food and shelter for the victims of the violence adding that the situation was deteriorating. He said:

There is a crisis. Families that have run away from their homes don’t have shelter and food. Others have lost sources of income after being pushed out of their workplaces.
These victims and their children need to eat and a place to sleep but we have no means to help.
Many people are sleeping in the bush for fear of being attacked at night. The majority of the victims are residents of Mpandawana while others stay on the outskirts of the growth point.
Many people have moved together with their children out of the district to Harare and other places.
It is well-organized and funded violence in the district and the Police is not arresting anyone to the extent that some people are assaulted at Police stations and in front of senior officers.
The godfathers of the violence are known and they openly brag about it. Gangs of hired thugs move in groups in broad daylight armed with banned weapons like catapults, knobkerries, stones and machetes.
They choose their victims randomly and they abduct, assault men and women in public.

Meanwhile, the Officer Commanding Masvingo East, Superintendent Taurai Mambure, was reportedly forced to call for an urgent all-parties meeting on Wednesday to discuss the issue of violence.
Mambure reportedly barred The Mirror from the meeting and refused to give a statement after more than 4 hours of deliberations.
<h2>Alleged victims of political violence</h2>
Four Makumbe brothers Tom, Kudakwashe, Nhamo and Jervas were reportedly severely assaulted, thrown into sewage and had their phones crushed.
The brothers have a welding company at Mpandawana Growth Point but they closed the shop and disappeared.
CCC councillor, Bernard Chimwango’s wife, Blessing Chiriga was assaulted this week at the main bus rank.
She and her children have left the district for fear of further attacks, while Chimwango is also no longer staying at his house which is at Mpandawana, reported the mirror.
<h2>Who is behind the attacks?</h2>
According to The Mirror, the ringleader in the attack has been identified as Josephat Sarukore who is the ZANU PF District chair.
Sarukore’s brothers Tawanda and Samson have also been fingered while Joseph Mudziwepasi, a son of a businessman at the growth point has openly confirmed his role in the violence.

Political Violence Forces Dozens Of People To Flee Mupandawana

The opposition Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) has claimed that one of its members Wilson Mathe and his wife Nomatter Dube were assaulted by 10 ZANU PF activists at the couple’s homestead in Nyezi village, Ward 9, Insiza South.
The alleged attack occurred on Thursday last week.
MRP president Mqondisi Moyo on Monday told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local-news/article/200003566/mrp-official-wife-survive-mob-attack">Southern Eye</a> that the assailants accused Mathe and his wife of introducing MRP politics in the area dominated by ZANU PF. Said Moyo:

The 10 attackers were armed with knobkerries, sjamboks, and axes. They attacked the couple accusing it of bringing MRP politics to the ward. They stated that they are ZANU PF members.
All 10 ZANU PF members are from the same area. A few days ago, they smashed window panes at Mathe’s house. They used sticks and sjamboks to beat up Mathe and his wife.
We sent a rescue team from Bulawayo which arrived on November 10 and found Mathe and his wife in a bad condition.
The victims were ferried to Filabusi Police Station to report the matter. They were also taken to Filabusi Hospital for treatment.

Mathe is the MRP treasurer for Nyezi. He contested the 2018 council elections.
Moyo said police arrested two of the suspects last Thursday.
ZRP acting spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province Assistant Inspector Thandolwenkosi Moyo said he had not yet received a report on the issue.

MRP Official, Wife Attacked By Mob

Opposition political parties in Zimbabwe have demanded the operationalisation of the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission (ZICC) to be expedited so that the body investigates acts of misconduct by members of the security forces as the 2023 elections approach.
Last month, the government gazetted the Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission Act to provide the legal framework for the establishment of the commission.
However, the commission is not yet operational as it has no staff members and funding.
Speaking to The Standard on Saturday, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere:

We are of the firm view that having an independent complaints commission will go a long way to ensure that acts of misconduct especially regarding violence, the patterns that we have seen in the past, are brought to account especially as we march towards the 2023 elections.
There is an escalation of violence, and incitement to violence and we call on law enforcement agencies to act in accordance with the constitution.
We continue to condemn the abuse of the professional security forces and law enforcement agents by ZANU PF who continue to abuse state institutions.

MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube said the Commission must have both financial and operational independence. He said:
<blockquote>
The security services must be made to account for their inaction or bias in dealing with violence.
Of course in the face of police inaction in this regard, the commission would be the answer.
The Commission must have both financial and operational independence. The secretariat of the commission must also be independently employed by the Commission itself and it must be funded independently of the executive.
</blockquote>
ZAPU spokesperson Msongelwa Ndlovu said that there is no political will on the part of the government to establish the commission. Said Ndlovu:

What we see in Zimbabwe is that the chief culprit of disorderly conduct chicanery and all sorts of impudence is the government, especially the second republic.
They will not establish anything that seeks to police them, hence no urgency.

In 2016, Veritas approached the Constitutional Court seeking an order compelling government to enact a law establishing the commission.

Opposition Parties Demand Operationalisation Of Complaints Commission

The opposition CCC has raised concerns over what it says is the “shrinking electoral environment” in the country.
On Tuesday, CCC held a Press conference at Media Centre in Harare to update the media on issues to do with elections as the country prepares for general elections in 2023.
Speaking at the Press conference, CCC secretary for elections Ian Makone, challenged courts and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to assert their independence from ZANU PF. Said Makone:

The Nyatsime 14, who include legislators Job Sikhala (Zengeza West) and Godfrey Sithole (Chitungwiza North), have spent 147 days (in prison) without trial causing distress to their families, but they remain motivated.
We emphasise and call upon the Judiciary to separate itself from the clutches of the regime. ZANU PF is in a panic mode which is why it has resorted to violence.
To the police, I say, reports were made in Insiza, Matobo, and Chirumanzu but no one has been arrested. Are we not correct to say that the police have been captured?
And ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) — the Constitution mandates it to take measures and systems to eliminate electoral violence and other malpractices.
Justice Priscillah Chigumba (ZEC chairperson) should come out in the open to tell us what those measures have done. If they cannot, we are right to conclude that they (ZEC) are captured.

CCC had to reconvene the Press conference after it was initially disrupted by suspected ZANU PF youths who had barricaded the Media Centre.
The assailants later entered the building and took away CCC banners and materials meant to be used during the Press conference.

CCC Challenges Courts To Be Impartial

ZANU PF Director of Information and Publicity Tafadzwa Mugwadi says the disruption of a Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) Press conference on Tuesday is a manifestation of factionalism within the opposition party.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere on Tuesday accused ZANU PF youths of storming the Media Centre in Harare to block the opposition party from holding its Press Conference.
Mahere said ZANU PF is scared of the opposition and is trying to push CCC to boycott general elections scheduled for 2023.
However, in a post on Twitter, Mugwadi claimed that CCC youths disrupted the presser to stop CCC leader Nelson Chamisa from imposing his preferred leaders for the party’s youth wing. Said Mugwadi:

Dog eat dog in CCC – deadly factional strife as their leader [Nelson Chamisa] who has no legitimate claim to lead their party claims legitimacy to freeze posts of other politicians belonging to the CCC cult.
CCC youths disrupted the presser to stop the [Takudzwa] Ngadziore coup on Obey Sithole.

 Chamisa is reportedly set to impose former student activist, Takudzwa Ngadziore, as the party’s youth assembly chairperson, albeit, on an interim basis.
Ngadziore will replace Obey Sithole, who left for Europe to further his studies.
