Partly cloudy conditions were experienced across the country yesterday into today. It was cold this morning in most areas with slight ground frost reported at Chipinge. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is drying out from the west.
FORECAST
FORECAST FOR TOMORROW THURSDAY 24 JUNE 2021: It should be cold in the early morning hours in all areas with a slight ground frost in areas such as Matopos, Kezi, Masvingo, Gweru, Chivhu, Marondera, Henderson and Chipinge. However, it is expected to be mild in the afternoon.
All Mashonaland Provinces, Harare Metropolitan and northern parts of Manicaland are anticipated to have partly cloudy conditions, while the rest of the country is mostly sunny.

PREAMBLE
Sustained south-easterly winds which are relatively cooler and moist have been entering the Zimbabwean atmosphere from the southeast coast of Southern Africa.
These resulted in cloudy, windy and cold conditions in Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo, and Manicaland Provinces, with widespread rain and drizzle.
The highest falls were recorded at Mukandi (4.6 mm), Buffalo Range (4.3 mm), Chivhu (2.2 mm) and Buhera (2.2 mm).
FORECAST FOR TOMORROW MONDAY 21 JUNE 2021 WINTER SOLSTICE
Cloudy, cold, drizzly and windy conditions are expected to dominate areas such as Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, southern parts of Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland and Mashonaland East Provinces.

PREAMBLE
Moisture drifted into the country overnight from northern parts of Mozambique resulted in scattered clouds in parts of all Mashonaland Provinces and Harare Metropolitan Province.
However, cold conditions were experienced early this morning with slight ground frost reported at Plumtree, Gweru, Henderson, Marondera and Nyanga.
Meanwhile, pressures are beginning to rise slowly over the south coast of South Africa.

It was mostly cloudy this morning over Harare Metropolitan, Mashonaland East, Manicaland, into the eastern parts of Midlands and Masvingo Provinces with light drizzle in areas such as West Nicholson, Zvishavane, Masvingo, Marondera, Mukandi and Nyanga.
Only Belvedere reported slight ground frost while the rest of the country experienced scattered clouds and cool morning conditions.

ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON FRIDAY 16 APRIL 2021 VALID UNTIL SUNDAY 18 APRIL 2021.
A north-westerly wind over areas such as Matabeleland North, northern parts of the Midlands into Mashonaland West. coupled with a freshening south-easterly breeze over Matabeleland South, Masvingo and Nlanicaland Provinces resulted in a pocket of calmer winds over the central parts of the Midlands into the southern areas of Mashonaland East. The Meteorology Services Department (MSD) has released a weather update for today which states that it will be mostly sunny in many parts of the country. Said the MSD in a statement:

PREAMBLE 
Brief cloudy periods occurred over parts of Matabeleland South, into Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces this morning. However, this moisture field did not yield much in terms of rainfall as the atmosphere continues to become less moist. All other areas remained perched with mostly clear skies, calm winds and chilly morning conditions. Some of the lowest temperatures occurred in areas such as Marondera (5 °C), Nyanga (6 &#8216;C), Mukandi (6 &#8216;C), Henderson (9 IT), and Rusape (9 °C).
FORECAST
FORECAST FOR TOMORROW THURSDAY 01 APRIL 2021: Mostly sunny and warm conditions are expected countrywide with a light north-easterly breeze. However, as we start this month of April, it should be cold both morning and evening.

<li> Though Thursday the 1st of April is April Fools&#8217; Day, do not let the sunny and warm daytime conditions fool you; it should be cool towards evening.</li>

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) Wednesday issued a weather report and forecast that is valid until Friday 19 March 2021.
In its report, MSD observed that 14mm recorded in Tsholotsho was the only notable rainfall figure recorded in the country on Wednesday.
The forecast noted that most parts of the country will be sunny this Thursday. Reads part of the forecast:

MSD Forecaster Sanduro Chirambaguwa Dies

According to the Meteorology Services Department, it shall be cloudy in most parts of the country today but Bulawayo, Matabeleland, Masvingo, and parts of Manicaland will likely receive heavy rains in excess of 30mm.
Said the MSD in its weather update:

The warm, Inunid and unstable atmospheric conditions affecting the country continue to be responsible for the thunderstorms and rain occurring countrywide; these resulted in localized heavier falls in areas such as Plumtree (34 mm), Binga (26 mm), Nkayi (21 mm), Kezi (20mm) and Masvingo (19mm).
Cloudy and warm conditions are expected TOMORROW MONDAY 18 JANUARY 2021 across the whole country with widespread rain showers which might be thundery in places. Heavy downpours (in excess of 30mm) remain a possibility in Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo metropolitan , Masvingo, and southern areas of Manicaland.

Heavy Rains Expected in Matabeleland, Bulawayo, Masvingo & Parts Of Manicaland - MSD

The Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum has forecasted normal to above normal rains throughout the 2020/21 rainy season for most of the central and southern parts of Southern African Development Community (SADC), including all of Zimbabwe.
Sarcof groups all regional climate experts and they managed to meet virtually for their recent 24th meeting where they predicted that the greater part of SADC is likely to receive normal to above-normal rainfall for the most of the first half of the summer season from October to December this year.
Zimbabwe is among the countries that are expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall for the full six months from October this year to March next year.
Above normal rainfall is defined as rainfall lying within the wettest third recorded during the 30 years from 1981 to 2010.
Meteorological Services Department director, Rebecca Manzou told stakeholders attending the annual agribusiness conference at the Exhibition Park on Wednesday that the national forecast is going to be issued on the first Wednesday of September.

Rain Showers Predicted Across Northern Parts Of Zimbabwe

MSD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Until Thursday

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Meteorological_Services_Department" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Meteorological Services Department (MSD)</a> said that starting on Saturday, heavy rains are expected across the country especially along main watersheds and the Eastern Highlands.
In a statement on Friday, MSD warned that the rains could result in flash floods, the uprooting of trees and damage to infrastructure.
Much of the country has been receiving rainfall this week and the precipitation is expected to intensify on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 January 2020.

MSD Predicts Heavy Rains Over The Weekend

Water levels in Zimbabwe’s major dams have slightly risen following the rains that have been received in many parts of the country since last week, with average water dam levels now at 48.7 per cent.
This was revealed by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/ZINWA" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA)</a> corporate communications and marketing manager Marjorie Munyonga. She said:
<blockquote>Water levels in the country’s major dams have slightly risen following the rains that have been received in many parts of the country in recent days. As of January 13, 2020, the national dam level average had risen by 0, 66 per cent to 48,7 per cent since January 6, 2020.
Major gains were recorded in Gwayi Catchment, whose dam level average rose by 3 per cent to 40, 8 per cent, Manyame Catchment, whose average rose by 2, 7percent to 75, 3 per cent, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sanyati" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Sanyati</a> Catchment whose dam level average rose by 1, 2 per cent to 48, 3 per cent while Mazowe Catchment had a dam level average of 74, 4 per cent. Save Catchment’s dam level average stood at 53, 6 per cent, Mzingwane Catchment 45, 3 per cent and Runde Catchment 38, 9 per cent.</blockquote>
Some parts of the country have received significant rainfall amounts in the past few days, with Murehwa recording 137 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

MSD Forecasts Thunderstorms In Some Parts Of The Country

The Meteorological Service Department (MSD) has confirmed that a Tropical Cyclone Idai, which is brewing in Mozambique, is expected to hit Zimbabwe over the weekend.
The cyclone is accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms and is likely to cause massive destruction in Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland provinces.
MSD head of forecasting, Tich Zinyemba on Monday said:
<blockquote>Idai, the tropical cyclone is currently positioned in central Mozambique channels and is slowly progressing towards the Mozambique coast. It is expected to make landfall most probably on Friday or Saturday.
Its leading edge is likely to be felt on Friday or Saturday in Manicaland. We are constantly monitoring its (path) and will issue an advisory today (Tuesday) given the unpredictable nature of these systems.</blockquote>
A tropical cyclone is a low-pressure weather phenomenon that forms over oceans when the water temperature is at least 26 degrees Celsius.
As it migrates westwards, the cyclone generates torrential rains and exceedingly strong winds resulting in flooding and destruction of infrastructure along its path.

Cyclone Idai To Hit Zimbabwe This Weekend - MSD

There are concerns that the ZANU PF Annual People&#8217;s Conference will be negatively affected by possible flooding. Heavy rains across the country are predicted in the next 48 hours by the Meteorological Services Department (MSD).
The ZANU PF Indaba is being held in Esigodini, Matabeleland South. The district is considered one of the province&#8217;s drought-prone areas.
MSD issued an alert on Friday, that heavy rains of 60mm are expected across Manicaland, Masvingo, Matabeleland South and the southern parts of Midlands within 48 hours beginning on Sunday. MSD Head of public weather service, Tich Zinyemba said
<blockquote>Yes, that is the general assessment of the situation.</blockquote>
Civil Protection Unit director Nathan Nkomo said his organisation is on high alert for possible flooding. He said
<blockquote>Of course, we are on high alert; all our structures are ready. We were in Bulawayo on Saturday and heard reports that district administrators in the region were doing something in activating their units. We are operating on a shoe-string budget like any other government department, but the little we have in our coffers can take us somewhere unless the situation goes out of hand. We can apply for more funds.</blockquote>
